Sooo. Kishimoto-sensei will be releasing a new one-shot about his first manga ever? That sounds interesting! The oneshot will be out on issue #6 May 2ed.

This a picture of the manga (Which is about Mafia), Kishimoto talked about it on a very old chapter of Naruto (don't remember which one) and said this is his best manga he ever created.

I really hope it will be as interesting as NARUTO

Oh, I never made that connection! I guess that between that and Moon Walker the theme for these one-shots in SQ is just "this used to be old stuff", huh

I kind of prefer the old art style though. I mean the proportions are better in the new art style (previously the guy's design was a little too influenced by Ootomo) , but the old art style had so much more detail to it. It's a shame really, Kishi's art hit a peak and now it pretty much screams lazy :/

I dunno, man. I always think of that early in terms of Karakuri, which is hands down the ugliest one-shot I've ever seen. His refinement over Naruto's pretty crucial to me.

^ Karakuri's pretty ugly, I'll admit that. Personally I think his art hit its peak around the end of Part 1 of Naruto.

Super bummed about the end of Boku to Majo no Jikan, but 6 volumes is a perfectly sized run for a monthly as far as i'm concerned.

Just saw in the official website for Jump SQ, it seems Gamma is getting another color page, which means color pages three times in a row. Haven't seen a series get that kind of treatment in a while, hopefully it's popular. Another color for Owari no Seraph, now I'm really excited for the next issue.

Gamma does look interesting. Also, it seems like Moonwalker and Te To Kuchi are getting oneshots in the 22-23 double issue of WSJ?

Mario isn't his first manga, exactly (he submitted several oneshots before getting the Hop Step award for Karakuri), but it's the series he was working on before he started Naruto.

In "Kishimoto Masashi's Scrapped Manga Report No. 5," published in Naruto vol. 11, he said that he considers it his magnum opus and "definitely intends to draw it someday." At the time he had completed a rough draft manuscript that was 160 pages long.

At the time he was still clearly heavily influenced by Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira. As I recall, many of his early oneshots had a more seinen style, and it wasn't until he watched the anime "Run, Melos!" and started experimenting with more shounen-friendly art styles that he started to make headway with his submissions.
