King definitely has the best abilities, I wonder how many he really has and just how crazy they're going to get. I assume well see some much stronger ones with the demons coming into play. Maybe hell be able to summon a whole forest soon like Hashirama or something. :zomg

Generally, King already has his crazy gravity powers at play here, then comes Disaster that is 99% sure to have a massively bigger set of abilities than just bringing out the powers of Chastiefol, and then comes Chastiefol itself. He may also have some other powers coming from his (not exactly clear to me because of the wings) heritage.

Like, do you remember these pages?

Yeah, that's him bringing up a bar-worth of water with one hand movement - while basically telling Hawk it's a hand-worth compared to an entire lake of power.

It means this guy is strong. Strong. And while he is told to be weak physically, we still see him get thrown around like a rubber ball and get up with a smile. Also bringing out Barrier while he's being wailed on.

Helbram's fight with him was so difficult because helbram halted Chastiefol and used it against King, and for some reason King doesn't use his powers for anything else than Chastiefol, or maybe some rheumatism.

Also, Chastiefol is the entire holy tree in my opinion - compressed into a spear. Those trees have seeds, after all. I also think Nakaba already showed it bare here:

It's the red-green plant by his side, mostly covered by text. I don't think it's there randomly, although back then he didn't have it. All the other parts about the picture are alluding to something, though. I wish there was a text-free version.

I think the more interesting thing is King perpetually hiding his true power or the things we don't know about him but don't make sense.

Why doesn't he have wings?

Why doesn't he seem to know about the demons? He obviously can't not know, being the fairy king for at least a thousand years or so, probably since the great war or maybe even before then. And the Fairies took an active part in the war and in the sealing.

What else doesn't he let on?
One of my biggest questions is how the hell did they create the Fountain of Youth (Goddess or Fairy technology?) and how exactly did his 200 years in prison go?

It all makes me really curious.

^King tanking these attacks must be related to his Spirit. At this point I think it's safe to say that the Sins can only lose against each other if they are not handicapped, with the exception of Dreyfus(i know their power level is supposed to be similar but Hendricksen really pales in comparison to Dreyfus in normal mode).

Disaster just seems to be an amplifier to me, Cain had rheumatism and he used Disaster to amplify it, I would not say that he has the best ability but he has the most versatile Sacred Treasure.

I wonder if it is possible we have not actually seen king use disaster. We know the explanation given by guila, that chastiefol is forged from the fairy tree which has a number of properties which king is able to maximize or use via his ability disaster. Its the slightly unique situation that king uses his ability to enhance his weapon which is slightly unlike that of other sins that do the opposite, use their weapons to enhance their abilities. Anyways, every time king has explained a form of his speak he has generally attributed it to a particular property the sacred tree has. As when he used the shield and he explained that the fairy tree can heal itself over long periods of time. Or when he talks about the bear form being something with the moss of the tree. Perhaps the sunflower mode is simply mimicking the properties of the tree's flowers. Luminosity and sunflower probably capitalize on the sacred tree being, well, a tree and absorbing sunlight for energy. So maybe we have seen king use the different forms of the spear but without really using his own power. And when he actually uses his disaster along with the tree we have the power attacks we have seen up to now along with some other devastating or crippling effect to his enemies. The issue here is that the manga remains ambiguous in regards to this.... In context it would make sense for king to hold back this much. Helbram was supposed to have been as strong as the GHKs and yet king was able to best him after taking a severe beating. If king is capable of that much even without his ability just by using the tree then using his ability should actually provide a massive increase in power. King has been specifically said to be too kind, he naturally would not want to cause that much arbitrary destruction. Anyways, it is entirely probable that king is already using his disaster to transform the spear to begin with. Although it does not seem like there is much disaster going on anyways. Pollen garden in particular would be incompatible with what little we have seen of disaster specifically as it did the exact opposite.

As far as king's wings, I am not sure if he has any or not but I am pretty sure that him not having them will somehow relate to his full power or something. As in, he only shows his true form and glory and whatnot when he shows his wings. Something similar might be going on with elaine.

I already know most of that from the thread. But like you've said, Disaster is calamity/catastrophe/collapse/tragedy/woe, and so far, King did not unleash any sort of woe except for the rheumatism part, and instead uses Chastiefol as a regular weapon.

It makes me wonder if Disaster is a frightening ability that King doesn't use often because, as you've said, he's just too kind to do that. Last time he properly used was perhaps the part with flowers, where he could have activated it to instantly kill/erase memories - and both those things are often considered disasterous.

He also probably used it while protecting the forest, fighting against the likes of greedy merchants/vicious tribes/other nasty things that Elaine fought, with 100% effectivness.

In both those instances he had a particular, serious state of mind. During the fighting festival, he was feeling a little cheatish.

---

Also, considering the wings part, I am 100% sure that they're coming out if he is pushed to a certain point, or cured of whathever keeps those wings at bay. And if he's going to get them at all, they'll probably look awesome.

I wonder about the number of King's power level. Thinking about it he fought helbram twice and both times helbram had a number of holy knights backing him. As far as the manga has told us the minimum, as in, the weakest a holy knight must be to become a holy knight is a total of 300. The first time helbram fought he had 20 knights with him, that sums up to 6000 and then he also used hendricksen's power. Even with all of that he had trouble with demonized meliodas. He probably does not straight up absorb the bulk of the power that is given to him though, he probably only uses what is given to him. Then we have his second fight with king. When transformed hauser made the point that helbram was comparable to the GHK. Gilthunder was said to have power comparable to the GHK class so we can make the case that anything above 1800 or 1900 is enough to be a GHK class and above that are the sins who have over 3000. Anyways, on his second fight helbram did take the bulk of the HKs power and he had just about 10 of them supporting him. Assuming they were the weakest HKs around that still adds up to at least 3000. Assuming some level of competence from them it could add up to god knows how high. And yet king went and bested helbram in a straight raw power fight with their weapons. So.... kings power is over 9000 or something?

over 9000

Seriously though? I think it'll be a mix of two things. The obvious being King's state of mind and goal at that moment, meaning that after he completed his goal of protecting Diane, his level dropped to it's "base" state, and it was at the level it was before he went H.A.A.M on Helbram.

Secondly, I'm pretty sure the author is going to conveniently "forget" Link with the introduction of these power levels. A tiny drop of base Hendricksen's strength put Helbram over the edge when he fought Demon Mel. But later on, we see that Mel is more than a match for Hendricksen one on one in his own base form, so...yeah. It's a bit inconsistent.

It wasn't necessarily a tiny drop though. I mean, it probably wasn't a lot of power as far as hendricksen was concerned however being a GHK his power is a number of times greater than your average HK. Hendricksen alone could throw in the power of a couple HKs while it being only a small portion of his true power. Presumably hendricksen and dreyfus were somewhere between the level of gilthunder, 1900, and the sins, 3000. He could throw in 800 which is over two HKs on his own and it still would not be even half of his power while being significant in regards to the other HKs there.

Link is probably what makes of Helbram a fighter of the GHK class. With Link he can probably absorb only Magic and Strength, not Spirit. Their confrontation was purely magical, it's likely that the stats of the Knights where weak in the Magic category, King must be comfortably above him in Spirit too.

Let's also not forget Meliodas's mindset during the entire kingdom infiltration arc:

To add to the question of helbram and king's power level, perhaps it would be worth it to add diane. As far as we saw meliodas pretty much bested helbra and his 20 knights until hendricksen pitched in. The whole thing is pretty open regarding how much power helbram took at the time however in his second fight with king he did seem to take the blunt of the HKs power. Anyways, the power which helbram used to seemingly easily defeat meliodas was presumably still a thing when he fought diane. And yet diane had a pretty overwhelming victory when it came to it. Going to the numbers presented by the manga the total volume of power the 20 Hks should have had is at least 6000, twice the standard for a sin. If anything even ten HKs should actually be able to surpass diane since 300 is the bare minimum and she has 3250. Anyways, the total power helbram has at his disposal should be at least 6000 from the HKs there and at least an extra 2000 from hendricksen (it seems like gilthunder would be the minium for GHK considering a power of 1700 was ranked platinum and gil is diamond). I know its a rough estimate even by the mangas admission however the implication here is still weird. Helbram probably has some power of his own to begin with even if not much. At least what he drew from the sacred tree should be his own considering it depends on his evil intentions and whatnot. At the time the fight was decided by how much power each party could draw from the tree as far as I understand anyways. I guess helbram didn't use against diane the technique he used when he had his final fight with king though. Still, diane's power level should have been easy to achieve and even far surpass even without hendricksen (its only half of the powers the HKs have going by the lowest estimate). I guess the issue could be that helbram did not have a proper technique to match the whole thing. Both of them could have had similar power but yet diane had her creation while helbram had... well, the same power level. It is weird that he didn't have a technique to match that with 20 HKs behind him though. One of the techniques is bound to be useful.

Looks like you beat me to exactly what I was just thinking.

Anyway, I'd say that Human form Helbram had to have been in the 2000's seeing as how he was a rank above Gilthunder. Thinking about it now though, unlike his fight with King, he probably didn't take all of the power of the HKs, so it most likely wouldn't be the full 300. So let's just say, each Knight gave him...a third of their full power, it'd be, at the least, 2000 plus his own and, eventually Hendricksen's. That makes things a bit more reasonable to me when considering the whole Diane thing.

Quick note, I think a point we also need to consider is at which point power gaps starts to become apparent. How much exactly does 100 points add to someone's power. Is is barely noticeable? Or is it quite apparent?

Back to Diane, we, yet again, need to consider emotions and how she reacted when saw an injured Meliodas. Plus she had her Sacred Treasure which, as I'm thinking about it now, we didn't see any of the Sins with during the Eye's of Balor chapters, meaning that their power could most likely jump some more when we add them in. It could potentially end up being an issue for Helbram. These could easily double her overall power, which would be troublesome. There is also the fact that the scale of the attack was pretty large. If it were someone else, he'd probably have a better time.

Now, considering all of that, during King's fight with Helbram, Helbram revealed his true form, which increased his power according to Hauser, took all the power of the HK, which would now make that number 6000 at the least, and used the Sacred Tree, which could be considered his equivalent of a sacred treasure. His power's could now be greater than 8000, maybe even 9000. So for that moment, King's love for Diane allowed him to reach a power greater than that, and, going by the fight, it was still a quick win for King, so he had power to spare.

These numbers are very situational and have a bunch of variables that can affect them. It's pretty pointless. These numbers can rise and probably fall due to emotions, but everyone is so damn emotional these numbers can change at the drop of a hat.

Was helbram a rank above gilthunder? I think he was said to be a cardinal although as far as we know that is not necessarily a higher rank than diamond or even platinum. It does not sound higher at least. Though guila and jericho answered to helbram while apparently not to gilthunder so perhaps he did have the higher rank. On the other hand he did refer to himself as a lowly cardinal when speaking to dreyfus and implied his rank was not high enough to know the stuff dreyfus was looking into. Which doesn't make sense if we consider the implication would be that he is second to a GHK.

Well, if he did take the bulk of the HKs power then it makes sense he would have something like 8000 considering he probably did not pick the weakest people around. Although perhaps king does not have to match the sheer number because he fights via drawing from the sacred tree. The implication so far is that using the tree is about drawing power from it in which case the personal power of the user is not that big a deal. In turn helbram used his link to draw the bulk of the powers from the HKs and used his sword. Perhaps he simply gave up on using the tree because king could draw more power from it. On the other hand we can make the case that king perhaps is able to take advantage of both things through his weapon in a way helbram could not. The explanation for king ability from when he was introduced was that chastiefol has the characteristics of the tree which are maximized through king's disaster. So king is more capable of combining his power with that of the tree which perhaps would allow him to fight as if he has well over the power of 20 knights while not actually having that much power himself. On the other hand his total volume of power could simply be that insane. Merlin had 4700, maybe king has a number like that too.

For Diane I think her power coupled with her Gideon was overwhelming and troubled Helbram's mentally, we know powers can be stopped when the users receive a mental shock.

Diane being the Sin of Envy I think her Power Level is greatly influenced by her Spirit stat, tt's interesting to see that it is her weakest base stat too. Mel vs Ban were somewhat even during their close combat battle, with Ban being the fastest and "winning" after stealing physical stats. Meliodas used his Demon powers and destroyed Ban with his power level over 3000 added with Meliodas's 900. Diane was angered when she fought him and she was overwhelming him despite her reduced size but they were somewhat even when they fought because of an illusion. IMO Diane is the weakest of the Sins when she is emotionally stable but is stronger than Ban or King when she is angry.

To me it would make sense that strength was the most defining stat she has simply because it is her strongest one. Spirit being that defining would be weird, kinda like saying that her comparative weakness in it is one of her main strengths. Her style revolves around her moving massive amounts of earth, it makes sense physical strength would be crucial there. I could see the spirit stat varying wildly depending on the situation though. Its willpower so it can potentially increase or decrease depending on the circumstances.

The way I see it, transformations excluded, Magic and Strength stats are influenced by the Spirit stat. I can't imagine someone simply becoming physically or magically stronger without a change in Spirit since it's mainly about the mental state.

It's not that I think that her Spirit stat should be the highest, I think that her Spirit stat increases by far when she is angry and that her performance when fighting against opponents of her caliber depends heavily on this stat, moving mass of earth is more related to Magic IMO.

Normally it's M: 900, P: 1870, S: 480, if her Spirit stat increases due to her being angry, depending on the increase in Spirit, the stats in Magic and/or Power will change as well.

I was thinking more along the lines of spirit being something like nakama powerup in fairy tail. It increasing resulting in an increase of the other 2 stats just seems weird. I can see the spiit stat increasing but not necessarily resulting in an observable powerup of the others. Kinda like breaking your limits or something. I mean, without spirit meliodas has some of the weakest stats among the sins so to speak. And yet the sins treat him as if he was the strongest of them at large. I would see perseverance and determination more along the lines in resulting that in a fight with meliodas he enemy would feel like meliodas simply does not weaken or give up as he goes on. Kinda like what henricksen, gilthunder and vivian experienced. Then again, they did make the point that meliodas' power was increasing through the fight.. so who knows.

I doubt Spirit stats effect Strength and Power. It's more likely that Gideon played a huge part in increasing her magic abilities by a huge amount, going by what King said about Sacred Treasures. If we think of the water he lifted up with his hand as Diane's base 900 power, then that large amount he lifted with his power would be several times her base powers number.

As for Mel vs Diane, the fight in the tournament was purely physical and Mel had to get serious to keep up with a weakened Diane, but when she started getting back to her original size, the strength gap had started to get more apparent. I don't think her emotions played that much a part in her strength, it just made it so she wouldn't hold back due to her admiration for Mel, which is the reason Ban spread those rumors. It wasn't like during the illusion fight where both could fight at their fulll ability.

Your right, your right. Diamond is the step closest to GHK. I thought he was a rank higher, but Gilthunder is the highest ranked knight. Strange, because he got some pretty high class and sensitive missions, and, as you said, he was also a trainer for the Reactor Knights. I'm thinking his rank didn't match his power and Hendricksen kept him at a lower rank so he could get away with more things than he would if he were a higher rank.

That makes sense. King's Power stat might be static overall and the power of Chastiefol is it's own, with him putting his power into it instead of vice versa. Which makes me believe that King's Spirit may actually be his highest stat. His jumps in power come when he is determined to protect, as we saw when he was protecting Diane. Even Elaine mentioned that being a quality of his power. Perhaps the more determined he becomes, the more effective or "in tune" he can become with the tree?

I'm guessing Disaster is gonna be something like Oberon and Titania from Shakespeare's a Midnight Summer's Dream.

Therefore the winds, piping to us in vains,
As in revenge, have suck'd up from the sea
Contagious fogs; which falling in the land
Have every pelting river made so proud
That they have overborne their continents:
The ox hath therefore stretch'd his yoke in vain,
The ploughman lost his sweat, and the green corn
Hath rotted ere his youth attain'd a beard;
The fold stands empty in the drowned field,
And crows are fatted with the murrion flock;
The nine men's morris is fill'd up with mud,
And the quaint mazes in the wanton green
For lack of tread are undistinguishable:
The human mortals want their winter here;
No night is now with hymn or carol blest:
Therefore the moon, the governess of floods,
Pale in her anger, washes all the air,
That rheumatic diseases do abound:
And thorough this distemperature we see
The seasons alter: hoary-headed frosts
Far in the fresh lap of the crimson rose,
And on old Hiems' thin and icy crown
An odorous chaplet of sweet summer buds
Is, as in mockery, set: the spring, the summer,
The childing autumn, angry winter, change
Their wonted liveries, and the mazed world,
By their increase, now knows not which is which:
And this same progeny of evils comes
From our debate, from our dissension;
We are their parents and original.
Note, this is the power of Fairy Royalties in the work.
It even mentions the Rheumatic Disease.
I've just remembered this post yesterday while doing some brainstorming, as well as the one where I've mentioned that King is literally a Harlequin, acts like a Pierrot and his fat form is somewhat a Clown.

Those three characters are roles in plays. And what is the fragment above? It's a part of a play. It gives a certain theme to King's character.

Also, I think his abilities and characteristics are not just generally based off of this play, but that he's Oberon himself. It goes a little like this:

  • Oberon is a powerful king of the fairies.
  • He is the husband of Titania. Titania means giant. Diane is a giant and he's madly in love with her.
  • "Furious that Titania will not give him the child, he puts juice from a magical flower into her eyes while she is asleep. The effect of the juice is that it will cause Titania to fall in love with the first thing she sees. Titania awakens and finds herself madly in love with Bottom. [...] After Puck straightens out what he has done, [...] Oberon looks upon Titania and her lover, Bottom, and feels sorry for what he has done. He reverses the spell and when Titania awakes the two reunite." That's a love jumble involving Titania falling for someone else.
  • "He is given some Celtic trappings, such as a magical cup (similar to the Holy Grail) that is ever full for the virtuous: "The magic cup supplied their evening meal; for such was its virtue that it afforded not only wine, but more solid fare when desired" according to Thomas Bulfinch." And there goes the Fountain of Youth.

He is also short, but said to be very beautiful. I consider him as such, though that doesn't make a very good point :P

To add to that, this chapter shows king with the traditional clothes of a harlequin. I get the impression this might be the result of him misunderstanding human culture though.

Exactly what character from arthurian legend does king take inspiration from? His name in particular does not hint at anyone. I guess he could be oberon although he is certainly not named that. Perhaps his identity is something else though... I mean, he is different from other fairies in that he lacks wings. Perhaps that hints at his origins being slightly different? Or maybe he is inspired by different fairies, as from another mythology which has wingless fairies...
