I'm curious as to why Conqueror's Haki affects inanimate material like the Whitebeards' ship.

That was only in the anime. In the manga it has yet to have any sort of physical effect on objects, it has only affected people and weak ones at that.

Re: One Piece 701 Discussion/ 702 Predictions

I really want Drake to become part of the alliance. Why? He's a T-Rex! Everyone has a soft spot for T-Rexes.

Also, if he turns into a T-Rex in front of the Strawhats, I bet that their reaction will be like this:

I'd rather Drake become an enemy. I don't want Luffy to befriend every Supernova. Hopefully Drake is allied with Kaido. An Ancient Zoan fighting alongside "1000 Beasts" Kaido would be epic. I want Bonney to become an ally, Drake to become an enemy, and Kid to become a rival. We'll see with Drake though, an alliance would make sense, and would be a lot of fun.

IIRC, Coby awoke Observation haki when he was punched in the face. It was never implied that he had Armament or Conqueror haki.
Conqueror's haki was implied at Marienford. How else could someone as insignificant as Coby stop, even for a moment, monsters like Kizaru, Akainu, Teach, and Marco from fighting. Without CoC, the cries of a single, low ranking Marine are probably ignored. Armament haki can be awakened with training. Not everyone has the aptitude, but if he can awaken CoO, there is no reason he can not awaken CoA.

Coby having CoC in that scene is very speculative and I don't think you will find many people agreeing with that. Coby was introduced as a very weak character who was inspired by Luffy. That does not match the definition of natural leader of conqueror haki users. If one really need an explanation for this scene, rather than him having this haki, why not considering that they hear Coby thanks to their own observation haki ?

Conqueror's haki is the very spirit of the user manifest. Shanks spirit is so overwhelming, his resolve so strong, that the very wood of the ship can't stand up to his haki. I imagine that is something not just anyone can do.

The same could be said about almost any character though. Luffy started out sailing a dingy in the world's weakest ocean. Character's grow. He's already a Marine Captain, only a few years after joining the corps.

Even if they used CoO to hear, that would not explain why everyone stopped fighting. The cries of a single, unknown Marine stopped some of the most prominent characters in the series, and halted the entire battle. People like Teach, Marko, and Kizaru heeded Coby's voice. His voice was enough to momentarily stop the greatest battle of the Age of Pirates, providing Shanks with the opening he needed to actually end the war. It is only speculation, but it is a very strong hint that Coby could have conqueror's haki.

The people confirmed to have Haki so far;

Luffy - Son of Dragon
Ace - Son of the Pirate King
Hancock - Pirate Empress
Doflamingo - King of Dressrosa
Shanks - 1 of the 4 Yonkou
Rayleigh - "Dark King" Right Hand of the PK
Roger - "King Of The Pirates"
Whitebeard - "World Strongest Man"
Likely Dragon as well

The majority of them have this King theme and are leaders in some way. As well as being somewhat charismatic. Coby really doesn't fit that mold, IMO. But if he rises through the marines then I guess in some fashion it could be possible.

Though it is fairly obvious that he had it, Roger is not a confirmed user.

i think conquer haki has more possibilities as the series progresses
i think the true power of conquer haki is related to the ancient weapons and i think if luffy eats the fire fire fruit he will not die because his conquer haki will be activated to a new level whereby he can possibly learn the properties of conquer haki without eating the fruit

We already know what conqueror's haki is, Rayleigh explained it to Luffy. It is the ability to overpower the opponent's will, the very spirit of the user manifest. It has nothing to do with the ancient weapons, or the ability to eat multiple devil fruit. The question is not what it is, or what it can do, but the upper limit of it's power. Can the user over power the will of a strong opponent? Does the ability even have any worth, in the right hands, against an opponent of consequence? Is there any benefit to using it in a one on one fight? Things like that.

Well, it has been over 100 chapters since the conqueror's haki was explained and well over 200 since we first saw luffy use it and the manga still has given no indication whatsoever about it doing anything more than what we have seen already. Even at the war we hardly saw it being used by people at all. WB is an user of it but he never bothered even to take out a few minions. I am still of the idea that the only actual value this type of haki has in battle is to take out underlings. It makes sense and it does indeed have incredible military applications relevant to the OP world. Other than that, as I have said before, COC only serves to identify people of exceptionally strong willpower and character.

Thinking about it there is one more thing I can think of in regards to what it could do in a battle. Perhaps it can work as a way to pressure a strong opponent over a strong fight. If we consider two people strong people fighting who can use this type of haki then it is easy to imagine an scenario where not only they physically clash with each other but also their very willpowers clash on a different scale altogether than what we usually see. If this is the case then over the course of a long battle COC could serve to add further pressure against an enemy. As the battle goes on then the added pressure from this type of haki would have an effect on the enemy, specially if his willpower falters as the battle goes on.

This I strongly agree with. It matches the definition of conqueror's haki as already provided, and fits well with the stories thematic framework. The importance of resolve, will power, and inner strength has long been stressed. Battles between the absolute strongest characters should be more than just physical fights, but battles of will. If your prediction is correct, conqueror's haki would allow inner resolve to be manifest in one on one battles. That, I would like very much.

On top of any things that have been said. I think that the haosouku haki as exerted like Shank did, but in a fight, haoushouku can reduce the effectiviness of your enemies DF power. So in a a battle ground with many DF opponents, despite their use of COA, the output of their DF would be limited to a certain extent. I can't see many other reasons for this power to be so feared cause we have seen the SH's before timeskip hold their ground vs 200 between Captains and Commanders, and now not only them but the most part of the characters are way above that level and able to substain any haki burst.

Said that I also agree on the part that the COC not only can influence people's will in different ways (subjugation/eccitation-support), but it make u also a natural leader that people will desire to follow and be allied with, sometimes even without finding a rational reason. Think about it, every COC user attracts people naturally.....Roger, Luffy, Ace, WhiteBeard, DoFlamingo, Hancock, Rayleigh, Shanks, and likely both Dragon and Garp...

Yet another interesting "old" post.

My thoughts about Shank's Haki affecting Whitebeard's ship is:
Conquerer's Haki is the manifestation of the users spirit. When you use it, it creates an invisible sphere around you and every beeing in that will be affected by your spirit. The spirit manifests as spiritual pressure, like in a pressure cooker. If you can't handle it you'll pass out and your body collapses.
The user usually sends his spirit out in a powerfull burst, overwhelming weak targets with a huge range of effectiveness.
When it comes to Shanks, we can assume he's able to controll his Haki to a nearly perfect extent, probably 95-98% (there has to be some room for Luffy to surpass him). This enables him to not only project his spirit as a burst, but constanrly emit the pressure in the form of a dome around him. The range is not as big, but the pressure is stronger, since it's lasting much much longer.
Since the normal use of Haki usually causes some kind of wind (or dust beeing stirred up) it would be only natural for this form of usage and the pressure of Shanks spirit to affect weaker structures such as wooden planks.
When he clashed his sabre with WB they both emitted their spirits on a big scale, thus the pressure grew that intense to even split the heavens. Thinking about Haoshoku Haki in this way, as a physical manifestation, like CoA, makes it much more comprehendible and gives the whole matter a frame you can apply fixed rules on. Instead of this whole mythical power thing. :P

As for combat between two Haki users i think everything has been said. :P

Seriously, no one else thinks zoro won't have the conqueror's haki? I honestly can't even imagine him without it. Even his goal is fitting of a conqueror's haki user, to be the strongest swordsman. It would also make an interesting parallel between the roger pirates and the strawhats with both having at least 2 users of the conqueror's haki. The ideal is also consistent with the comparisons that have been made between zoro and uncontrollable or wild beasts. Heck, even mihawk might be a conqueror's haki user considering he did go toe to toe with shanks.
