Yeah I remember your theory, and personally I have nothing against it. If it happens it will be a great unexpected twist, but of course Togashi has to work hard to make the alliance between Quwrof and Hisoka seem believable and natural.
To me Quwrof looked too pissed to just be feeling guilt. It looked like a great deal of anger with a hint of sadness.
P.S: Loving the "Syarnorkl" and "Colhtophy" ^^
I think it would fit thematically. Togashi invoked the picture of Jesus and Judas, while Quwrof said that Hiskoa is his Judas.
And that he doesn't see him as a traitor, but as a necessary part of fullfilling Quwrof's plans.
Now, in the deathmatch it was Hiskoa that rose from the dead. This might have been a deliberate joke by Togashi.
But it also might be a reminder of that story.
MAny Mangaka invoke religious symbols without going anywhere with it (a good example would be evangelion, in which the mangaka himself said that he had no idea abour the Talmud except the symbols), however, i don't think that this is the case with togashi because Quwrof actually shares a lot of similarities with Jesus and does things that you only see when you know some specific bible parts.
Of course, there is the Judas story I already mentioned, but there is more.
He became Danchou because he didn't want to be. It is just evident that he is to all the spider, much like Jesus works for god and didn't choose his mission. He always prioritizes the spider over himself, like a religion. But even when he said he has no value as a hostage and that he can be replaced, it was evident by the reaction of his apostles that he cannot be replaced. They saved him.
Another interaction was with gon. Gon asked how the spider could kill people without connection to them so easily, Quwrof said that he thinks having no connection makes it so easy. But then he reconsidered and said it is a hard question and he is not the kind of guy who actually expresses his own motivations. He then made a comment about selfconsciousness. That adds further to the theme of Chrollo fullfilling something higher than his own ambition.
Then Melody said Quwrof is a person who already accepted death, as if he was part of a prophecy and knew the end of it already. His prediction ability adds to that theme. It seems like both knew beforehand they were going to die (and in Jesus's case, itnerestingly, he knew his apostles would forsaken him).
Quwrof is a guy who, in almost every interaction that was not directly plotrelated, was shown as a mysterious person who followed a plan that his followers cannot even grasp. And He was similarly rendered as someone who follows a prophecy rather than acting on his own ambition.
Even in the Deathmatch, a reference to Jesus is made. Quwrof tells Hiskoa he will lose 100% if he proceeds, yet, Hiskoa proceeds.
Something similar happens in the bible. Jesus says that he is the son of god and fighting him is useless several times in the bible, yet the people do not believe him, which jesus remarks on (on one instance, by saying that they are the children of lucifer).
With these things in the back of my mind, i cannot help but think a plotline in which Quwrof has to follow a prophecy that involves letting his apostles die a martyr death (like they did in the bible) makes a lot of sense and would explain his latest appearance.
Imagine Quwrof knowing full well that two of his comrades would die due to the deathmatch. When he asked Hiskoa to forfeit after making him aware that the deathmatch would end in Hiskoa's death 100%, that might be a check on how inevitable the death of his two comrades was.
It would also explain that he looked sad at first
http://mangafox.me/manga/hunter_x_hunter/v34/c352/14.html when Hiskoa declined.
Lastly, both Jesus and Lucifer rioted against the higher ups, changing established order. The same happens in the Watchtower song with the joker and the thief.
I know this could all be nonsense, but by now, i cannot really see it any other way anymore. Everything I reread about yorkshin , the deathmatch and so on just adds to it.
