Before fighting Lucci Luffy won against 4th strongest CP9 member Bruno and then he fought the strongest Lucci (whose Doriki was 2 times stronger than Zoro's or Sanji's opponent). So it is only logical that he is the strongest. And I'd say that Zoro doesn't have the upper hand against Luffy with his swords, because it would matter in a fight of equal foes and they are deffinetly not equal. I'd say that Luffy is equal to Zorro and Sanji together.
Look what i've found, forex expert

Then how come Zoro after he beated ryuma, and fighting orz + Kuma

He took ALL the damage and ALL the Fatigue from luffy, and still lived on
(luffy was K.O by the fatique and damage, coz he pushed himself to his very limit)

i think after thriller bark, zoro was actually stronger then luffy.
But luffy had the advantage of being rubber against orz and moria (punches arent effective against a rubberman) just like he had advantage against enel.

I agreed. Luffy stat is higher. He is stronger and faster. And he's on another level of fighter if zoro "wasn't" a sword user. My argument is Zoro being a swordsman bring him a lot closer to defeating luffy than sanji kick would (for instance). So being a swordsman he poses more threat to luffy, and it boost his probability of winning compared to some empty/blunt weapon fighter. If luffy is to fight someone of his equal, and he happens to be a swordsman. Luffy would definitely get chopped up. But since zoro is obviously not his equal, he is forced to draw or lose.

Luffy also lived on after his damage and also the damage that Zoro got during Triller Bark arc was lower than Luffy's.

Yes it is exactly my point:) Zoro deffinetly isn't a Luffy's equal, so no way he can beat Luffy even with his swords. Also I can't understand how Zoro can be Luffy's level when Luffy kicked more powerful asses.:)

you mean, way higher.

Zoro had battled ryuuma, and orz and Kuma already
now add everything from luffy.

People shouldnt underestimate zoro and luffy.
Also zoro is extremely tough and powerfull.

Zoro's attacks are fast and deadly, also hes rly tough + has incredible spirit. see asura.

ALso i believe zoro his body is stronger than luffy's , he also trains alot ;)

Gear second of luffy, he can only use that for 1-2 minutes, and its getting weaker the longer it takes.

also i think its funny if zoro slashes luffy once and burns him xD

also.. what u think is faster.. luffy gear 2 attacks or kuma light speed pressure cannons?

I don't think Luffy reached his limit in the fight with Moria. If that was the case then when Kuma removed all of the damage and fatigue from Luffy then he would have woke up. I think Luffy was sleeping because he just wanted to rest after his latest big adventure.

Plus, even if Zoro could handle more damage than Luffy that doesn't mean he would win in a fight, toughness is only one aspect of a combatant's ability. With gears two and three Luffy is definitely stronger and faster than Zoro and has started to master haki to boot.

gear 2 doesnt make luffy stronger.. only faster, and i have no doubt that zoro can outlast gear second and heavely damage luffy, i mean, that guy dodged kuma's pressure cannon spam attack, why couldnt he dodge a slower luffy?:P

Zoro would most likely win. Physical strength-wise, Zoro is clearly stronger (HE'S STRONG ENOUGH TO THROW BUILDINGS AT PEOPLE, LUFFY IS NOT, DON'T ARGUE THIS POINT). Speed-wise, Luffy is clearly faster, thanks to Soru and Gear Second. Stamina-wise, its hard to compare the two because stamina is not something so concretely comparable, but I think Zoro takes this one because of the fact that it seems impossible to take Zoro down. He can lose 8 pints of blood and still keep going. He can take on all of Luffy's pain and fatigue and still be alive. He can survive millions of bolts of electricity and still keep fighting. I mean, when have we really seen anybody take Zoro down for the count? And the X-Factor here, is clearly the fact that Zoro is a swordsman. Zoro is Luffy's weakness, there's no question about it. A few slices and Luffy's severely injured if not killed, whereas Luffy would have to beat Zoro into submission to defeat him, which, because of Zoro's ungodly strength and stamina, would be no easy feat.

As Luffy is the captain, he will, by definition, be the strongest member of the crew. The fact that he's able to command the respect of someone like Zoro is a testament to his strength and character. While Zoro is probably just as strong as Luffy, I'm willing to say that the Will of D. gives Luffy the edge.

Well I'm not sure that either of the two is prepared for fighting each other.
Luffy is surely weakest against sword wielding opponents, and Zoro is best off in a head on fight. The two fighting styles would directly oppose each other.. That IMO would give Luffy an edge since we have seen his adaptability far more so than Zoro. I also think that if Luffy can dodge attacks from Mihawk then Zoro shouldn't pose any greater threat. http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/561/06-07/

NOTE: I'm not saying Luffy was even with Mihawk or even capable, just that he avoided those specific attacks..

I give this one to Luffy based on his adaptability and the vision he has shown recently.. His premonition that Mihawk's attack would have sever his limb is a great example..
http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/561/05/

That being said I think Zoro could beat Luffy to close to death, but not further. Luffy's DF, strength, inborn Haki and unrelenting will would IMHO be enough for Luffy to eke out a win..

An ugly win, but still a win.

Not stronger but his fists go faster and therefore do more damage. Besides, I was referring to gear 3 when I said stronger. Gear 3 Luffy finished Oz when all Zoro could do was literally make chicken scratches on his arm. Also, in his fight with Moria Luffy proved that he could use gear 2 and gear 3 at the same time.

Zoro would probably outlast both gear 2 and gear 3 but not before being heavily damaged and Luffy in normal state could go toe-to-toe with with Mihawk and dodge his attacks and who's to say Luffy couldn't also dodge Kuma's rapid attack?. If Luffy fought normally with Zoro until they were both tired and then used gear 2 and 3 to finish Zoro off I think he could win.

I think they are closer than most people think.

For one... Luffy has one weakness and it's against swords...
which are Zoro's strenght, so, in a 1 vs 1, Zoro could have the upper-hand.

To be honest, I wouldn't be half-surprised if Zoro would win a fight against Luffy...
Although, as soon as Luffy learn Haki, it won't be a debate anymore...

When did Luffy go toe to toe with Mihawk?? All I ever saw was Luffy dodge, avoid and by chance evade at times.. It shows IMO that likely Zoro's swords would be an obstacle Luffy could likely overcome..

I do agree with his gears and adaptable style, he'd find a win...

But with scars to show for it...

Luffy's weakness isn't swords it's just that his body reacts the same way ours would against swords. He's natural weakness would be heat/fire and cold/ice.

Now those of you who say that Zoro is stronger than Luffy physically I'll have to disagree.

Luffy broke the nose that Zoro presumably even at 100% couldn't break even when using his swords.

Luffy could shatter steel long before Zoro could cut it and we all know that when Zoro cuts metal he's not using brute strength but the opposite. To date I still doubt Zoro could break metal bare-handed.

Zoro carried a building, Luffy did this: http://www.onemanga.com/One_Piece/209/20/.

To top that Luffy carried a ball approximately 10 times his size, swung it around a lot and finally struck it so hard against Enel shattering it in the process.

In terms of physical power Luffy wins imo.

While Zoro is pretty damn close on Luffy. Also Luffy's weakness is ice, not swords.

Zorro is having the advantage of using swords, but if he wasn't, he would be just a normal brawler... what kind of argument are you trying to give? People are fighting based on their speciality, their forte, so such arguments aren't really helping. Luffy used his fists for fighting since he was a little kid, so there is a lot of power behind them, even if their weren't rubber.

I don't think zoro has an advantage over luffy strength wise at all. Quite frankly, if you consider their fighting stiles luffy should be the stronger one. Luffy also has it in him to move around buildings and stuff. Back at water 7 he even managed to move two buildings when he was traped and had not angle to even move.

Sorry, poor choice of words. My point was that if Luffy could dodge Mihawk's slices then he sure as hell could dodge Zoro's. I was trying to show that any speed advantage Zoro might have over normal Luffy is minuscule if it exists at all.
