Discussion Luffy will die when One piece ends.

I don't think luffy will or should die by the end of the series. It is a realistic outcome but based on a few other characters I don't think that should happen. Before roger became the pirate king he actually had a good run of 30 years of being a pirate. It took him that long to turn himself into a legend which has inspired an age of piracy. WB, who was essentially a second pirate king and the most powerful pirate until the moment he died, had a long run of roughly 50 years as a pirate. Before the timeskip luffy traveled the first half of the grand line for a period in between 6 and 12 months. If the second half of the series takes place in a similar period of time then luffy's actual pirate career would have lasted in between 1 and 2 years. Even if luffy becomes pirate king (even though it took roger 30 years to do it and WB's 50 year run left him kinda a step short of that) in such a short period of time it would make little sense for his career to end so soon. Even if luffy does make it all the way through the GL it does not mean the GL will no longer hold no secrets for him. The first half still has 6 routes which he has yet to explore and there will still be many places in the NW to explore once he is done crossing it. I don't think it would make sense for luffy's career to end as he makes it all the way through the GL.

I have a few things to say:

1. Just because Chopper is going to turn the best doctor and will be able to cure any sickness, that doesn't mean he can cure Luffy.
It's similar to how the best ship builders weren't able to repair Going Merry - there was nothing more to repair. Replacing the keel would basically mean building a new ship altogether.
Since Luffy's Gears and the thing that Ivankov did to him were drastically reducing his timespan, then his "sickness" might as well be aging. If there's one sickness that Chopper is not going to cure, it would death itself.

2. Death does not mean that Luffy lost, or that Roger lost the fight by dying. On the contrary, death would come as a victory, as the logical response to "I did everything that was meant to be done".
Of course, he could go on the other Grand Line routes, or even visit the other seas, which is why I'm not sure if he would really die at the end. But since he went to weird places such as a sea in the sky, or (next-up) a city underwater, maybe everything else wouldn't be as interesting.


Also, he needs to fight Laboon .

If he does finish his goal and become a Pirate King, thus gaining all the freedom he wants. If he helps his dad with the Revolution ... what next?
When you finish your goal and do everything that has to be done, you're figuratively at the end of your life, dead.
So if he really dies at the finish of this manga, I wouldn't be surprised. Death would truly represent the end of his big adventure.

Cj, that would be like the story all over again. I don't like the thought of Luffy staying pirate king and conquering everything. Remember Luffy saying that he wanted to be PK cuz then he would have the most freedom? Don't think that's gonna happen if WG stays same. Will definitely have to change, if not be destroyed. I like the outcome of a truce, following a huge battle with the WG or someone else. Maybe Luffy putting an end to the bad evil pillaging, killing innocent pirates and having the WG not be corrupted and reveal the history of the Void Century? Or turning himself in to put an end to it? I don't think he's gonna destroy it with brute force. Garp said that Roger's actions were as pure as a baby's. This means that the WG acknowledge Roger, Luffy, and others' actions and know that he's trying to save himself and his nakama. As well as fight for justice. I think that this is foreshadowing that the WG become nice. Sure, I'd like Luffy to OWN the Celestial Dragons, but the WG, I don't want to see destroyed like that.

Luffy dying would bring a sad ending to a manga. I think there needs to be a happy ending. Luffy and his crew will conquer the seas and find One Piece then maybe the last chapter Oda will show us something like 30 years later where they all retired from piracy.

This story is about Luffys adventure not, not his sons or somebody else, so it's him who should end the open questions hinted by Oda, Whitebeard and Gol D.. I don't want to repeat things already posted in this thread, but they are there, just read them. :P The whole plot would be unfulfilling if it ended in a cicle, it would seriously harm the whole plot if there is no climax with the WG being freed, the Will of the D fulfilled. As others said, it would be pointless.

After the 2 yr timeskip Luffy can now go into Gear 2 with any part of his body at will.That will relieve the stress compare to his entire body in G2.And the tension hormones were only injected once(When luffy got attacked by Kizaru at marineford and couldn't stand up?).So i dont think it will have a huge effect on the body?

And yeah, if it was a circle it would be just One Piece allover again. The point of the story is about Luffy becoming PK and putting an end to WG. Won't happen if it just repeats.

I hope Oda can give us a perfect ending , Luffy dead might be interesting , but this is not what I want to see . If only Dr Vegapunk is a doctor , else with Tony Tony Chooper ability , it's hard to save Luffy lives after his big fight with the final antagonist .
