No, I read the first four books before the first film. When I read GoT I think I'll read the first book, watch the first season. Read the second book, watch the second season. That is, if the seasons and books line up correctly.

While you might be out of touch with Americans or Brits, most of us grew up with Harry Potter, so it means more to a lot of us. It was hugely popular in America when I was young.

GoT is just a medieval setting with some problems and sex to make it edgy. Now I'm not an expert on GoT, but...

Why do we even need a theme, actually? I'd rather play without a theme if it would mean that it would appeal to everyone, as opposed to just one small sector that loves GoT.

I love Harry Potter and grew up with it. Nothing against it, quite the opposite. However one can't deny that right now ASOAIF is a hot thing. The show is second most watched show in HBOs history (after True Blood). The latest book dominated New York times bestseller list for several months. Not only that, all 5 books (first of which is 15 years old btw) made it to top 15 at best point. Clearly it's you who is a bit out of touch. Sure, Harry Potter sold more and is globally bigger phenomemon, but it also has a massively bigger demographic.

The comment that made me almost bash your head to the wall was that the story is just a medieval setting with "some problems" and sex to make it edgy. It is so much more you , you, you.... bastard.

Of course there's more to GoT than that, but if you distill it down really, really far... :P

HP's essentially about an often moody orphan who has to kill an evil lord, which could be an allusion to WWII, although Grindelwald appears to be the WWII figure in HP.

If you but it the way you put ASOIAF, it would be more like "A underdog boy is actually The Chosen One and has the defeat The Evil One and save the world. The most cliché basic story ever, with some teeanage romance and magic to make it edgy."

In that case I would finish book three, then watch seasons three and four. Or something along those lines. My guess is that once I was caught up with all of the seasons, it would be easy to read the books or even finish the series before the next season was out.

Harry Potter is my favorite series of all time. If I had to choose between it and D.Gray-Man or it and Zelda, I would choose Harry Potter in a heart beat. I can't say for CERTAIN that Harry Potter is better than GoT since I haven't read GoT, but I can make a bet with you that there's no way I would like GoT better.

Just by the things I do know about it. Just because something is more 'hot right now' or more 'adult' does not automatically make it better. That's my opinion of it!

I really like having a theme though! There should always be some sort of theme, but I like ones that are very broad so that virtually everyone would understand it. The last theme, for instance.

scav, you're not helping. That's not even a real argument. I know just as many adult who love Harry Potter as I do young adults, kids, etc. Saying Harry Potter isn't as good because it's "childish" is not even remotely a vaild reason. Granted, the first and second Harry Potter novels are pretty child-like, but book 4 on up have very dark, political, and adult themes. Just because the characters aren't having sex all the time doesn't make it bad.
