Here's something I've been thinking about:

When did Naruto and Sasuke surpass Kakashi?

Difficult to say, because Kakashi was also getting stronger in Shipudden during the war arc. I would say Sasuke surpassed him after the Itachi fight getting the EMS. Naruto after Kakuzu fight already.

But I hated Naruto after the Pain Arc, because power levels were terrible. Naruto and Sasuke were like gods and don't let me start about Ootsutsuki.

Depends on how you measure it.

I mean, if your talking purely strength as in "so and so could beat so and so" pretty early. Sasuke got OP quite fast(Post Itachi fight probably) and Naruto always had a huge stamina advantage (He could probably have beaten him pre-sage mode) But in terms of like maturity and reliablily even at the end of the manga they were a pair of children in a lot of ways. As a teacher there was never really much to surpass in the first place given how bad the manga made him at that for plot reasons.

Naruto

Personally, I'd say when Naruto mastered sage mode, he established himself above Kakashi.

I know when Naruto hit Kakuzu with the rasenshuriken, Kakashi did say something about Naruto surpassing him. Though I feel that could also relate to Naruto developing a powerful jutsu that he nor the 4th could do. And remember he didn't master the rasenshuriken and it was a double edged sword, Tsunade banned him from using it cause the damage it caused him. But I guess you could argue they were same tier because of Naruto's chakra reserves, shadow clones, and rasengan variants, not including Kyuubi chakra cause he had no control.

Sasuke

I think right after the timeskip, Sasuke CM 2 could take Kakashi. If you're not counting that since it's Orochimaru, then when he got MS and able to use kagesutchi and create Susanoo with Amaterasu defense.

I think Sasuke 3 tomoe Sharingan(Itachi fight) vs Kakashi is a good one. Sasuke had some things in his favor or at least equaled Kakashi in. Swordsmanship, shurkien jutsu, genjutsu, and he applied chidori in a lot more different ways than Kakashi.

Naruto, when Pein attacked the village and Sasuke after the Danzo fight..... Kakashi is smarter in his fights than the two though...

Obito"s eye came in handy...he got a power up every time Naruto and Sasuke did...tho minor.

But that eye came in quite handy as the story progressed not to mention Kakashi's stamina lol

Think he woulda came up with some kinda hax to beat both kids(hence obito/tobi/madara had other eye)..but once they went reincarnate bros....no way no chance xD

This is based more on strength scenario but if we were to talk abt craftiness and experience, during the war arc.

BM (maybe KCM) and EMS but then Kakashi surpassed them back with DMS.

Kakashi’s growth rate throughout the series is underrated. He went from Jonin level to High Kage level (being > Rinnegan Obito)

It's a continuation of the story, and is still written by Kishimoto, so it's as relevant as Shippuden is. Kashin Koji is a clone of Jiriya. I would suggest reading the Boruto Manga, and all the other accompanying manga that Kishi has released. Naruto is still part of the story. Honestly, saying that is isn't relevant would be like saying Dragonball Z isn't relevant to Dragonball.
