Re: Naruto Hangout Thread v.13 <3

Rin's death could have hit Obito hard but the fact that that alone lead him to become the psychopath he did is insane, not to mention completely out of character for Obito. Madara may have been planting seeds of doubt in Obito, but Obito pulled a complete 180 for a very shitty reason. You could claim brain damage, or that he was being influenced by Zetsu but we really don't have evidence of that.

Obito had the opportunity to confront Kakashi, to go home and yet he chose to go back to Madara, for literally no reason. He took Madara at his word, and didn't think he'd betray him.
I do not disagree.

Like Sasuke in his early childhood, Obito learned of the conflicting issues shinobi have had to bear. But unlike Sasuke, Obito haven't experienced that trauma for himself.

His team (Kakashi, Rin etc) was everything to him and the boy trusted them with his life; however, when reality sets in, the reality that there might be times you're physically incapable or completely powerless to protect those close to your heart (Rin)? Madara's lecturing became an asylum for him to cage his mind from combusting.

He refused that ugly reality, so dreamland it was. Just like lelouch's parents.

Rin's death was the ultimate catalyst to his turning evil, not the cause. He also doesn't blame anyone, but wanted to forcefully drag everyone to his dreamland.
It was the cause. How was it not?

Re: Naruto Hangout Thread v.13 <3

No, I am looking at this through the lens of who and what Naruto is. And that does relate to what you are talking about because again, Naruto is held to higher standard now given who he is and what he represents.

Naruto's words clearly give his opinion regarding Obito, and opinion that would greatly anger many people. People are angry with Naruto because his opinion literally cannot be this if he wants to be Hokage. There's a reason Naruto changed his stance on Sasuke when the Rookies turned on him, it was because the Sasuke situation became about more than Team 7. Same thing applies to Obito. Naruto's opinion of Obito can't be based on Naruto's perception of him and how they are similar, it has to be based on Naruto as a potential Hokage and what his people want. Heavy is the Crown a King must wear.

Now correct me if I am wrong here. What you were talking about initially was "people's blind hate for Obito is clouding the fact that Naruto's opinion of him and his words don't overlook what Obito did, and instead it's the similarities between the two of them that made Naruto say what he did".

If I'm wrong let me know.

And if that was what you meant, we still have a problem. What I think you are overlooking is perhaps people can see that Naruto has a connection to Obito, and it is because of that connection that Naruto is biased, and his opinion of Obito is clouded by the fact that Obito wanted to be Hokage, that Obito was a friend to Kakashi, and Obito died doing something good. So people are angry with Naruto for being biased here, especially when Obito is such a shitty person and has killed his friends. Naruto's opinion of Obito is thus skewed, and any normal person wouldn't see Obito that way, and rightfully so. It's like when people of sports teams like a guy on their team despite him being a scum bag, or wife beater, etc.

The entire latter half of this conversation has been about nothing but the affect this whole "coolest guy" thing would have if Naruto became Hokage. The type of backlash it would garner if people heard him say this. And note, I have said multiple times that I never supported Naruto saying those words however, once again I never took it as seriously as people seem to. My entire argument is the mere appreciation for the character alone. But because it's the easiest thing to harp on, this whole "coolest guy" thing has become the main focus.

I honestly believe that you give people too much credit. I've already linked to an individual that is dissatisfied with the chapter or at least a part of due to the fact that Obito is simply in Naruto's montage of people when he talks about learning from the past. Simply because of the actions that Obito has committed against him. They share none of your sentiments regarding how this would be seen as a negative for his Hokage-ship. Or, your sentiments regarding what he would do in the future if a situation like this arose. It's easy to try and see the ins and outs of a character in the story. A lot harder for actual people. Same guy that gave credit to Konan over Obito because he used Izanagi. While I can agree with your sentiment because it is articulated to fully illustrate your point, you give too much credit to the people harping on Obito. A lot of them do not care about Naruto's future as the leader of the leaf as much as you seem to. Or, more accurately that's not the issue for a lot of people. Once again, the conversation veered off from what it was initially about. Because most of the focus is now on how Naruto cannot view Obito this way because of his pending position as leader of the leaf. Thusly, he's been held at a higher standard.

Honestly, I've grown tired because we seem to just be going back and forth in circles over this "coolest guy" thing.

I agree, but when you praise someone who has killed your friends (I don't care how you put it, calling someone cool or the coolest guy ever is praise), you are spitting on the graves of those who died trying to kill that person.
And I disagree with an extreme like that. But that's what I'm talking about, the conversation shifted from me talking about simple appreciation to this whole coolest guy thing. And for the final time, like I've already said, I never once supported him calling Obito the coolest.

So, after 5 years they decided to do another play (probably another musical).
The first one was so bad that it's impossible to find the whole play anywhere. It was an original story. And apparently ANN doesn't even know about it, since i found no mention about the previous one.
Well, let's hope they cast someone handsome for Sasuke this time

Wasn't it because of the cursed seal Madara had placed on his heart?

No that cursed seal is the same one that was placed on Rin. It's called the "Puppet Master Seal"

Puppet Master Seal - The cursed seal is designed to restrict or force certain actions on the target in key situations such as preventing them from taking their own lives and removing the cursed seal themselves Source. Not the best source but it does seem to make sense.

Basically, this seal only forces actions in key situations, but it more so restricts certain things. It doesn't brainwash you seeing as how Rin was able to allow Kakashi to kill her and Obito allowed Sasuke to do the same thing to him so he could break the seal. Also, Obito didn't follow Madara's orders exactly, so obviously Madara didn't have full control over him.

Perhaps I was a little too hard on Obito, but my problem with his transformation is that he was already a very good person and he had developed significantly, whereas Sasuke lost everything at 7 and hadn't yet fully developed and he wasn't as strong as Obito was. Obito's fell farther than Sasuke did, far faster, and with far less reason to do so in my mind.

My problem with Obito is that he's an idiot, an utter dumbass. He choked on candy while fighting, and he turned evil for a pretty stupid reason.

Obito reminds me of Deathstroke a.k.a Slade Wilson ( Arrow series version ) from the DC comics.
Both wore a mask. Both loved a girl who in turn loved another guy. Both were driven mad by the death of the girl they loved in their respective series. Obito's right side was completely crushed while Slade's right side was burnt. Both lost their right eyes.
Well maybe Arrow's version of Slade Wilson was based on Obito.

Though I completely understand Obito's reason for turning bad. Rin was the only ray of light in his life and as this light died, his world was surrounded with complete darkness. He never got to know his own parents so he did not understand what it was to lose a loved one. Just like Naruto, when he did lose someone important to him, he was overcomed by grief. He's just like Naruto apart from that and he grew up to become intelligent and extremely knowledgeable and IMO, while he had his mask on, he was a better villain than Madara.

But he did something that went against what Rin died for. He hurt Konoha, when Rin was trying to protect Konoha. I don't remember the manga mentioning Obito had a bad life or something, just that the idiot went crazy after Rin died despite knowing why she died and how she died. It's as dumb as Sasuke planning to destroy Konoha despite knowing Itachi died to protect Konoha.

Obito hasn't gotten that much smarter though, but he did get quite knowledgeable. Madara turned into an eh villain few chapters after he was introduced as an Edo. Otherwise at teh start, he was pretty calm, stoic, and intelligent. Then he showed his fetish for Hashirama, talking a lot, and not going all out for plot. X_X

Naruto was overcome by grief, but he never thought about turning evil. Obito turned evil, despite having Kakashi and the village. Makes no sense.

He was intelligent, not as a child but as an adult. He was smart enough to guess that he could sync his Kamui with Kaguya's S/T technique and he managed to put Madara at his mercy since he knew if he died, Madara could not be brought back to life via Rinne tensei. He also became a great manipulator through the time he attempted to accomplish his goal. Obito is not the same idiot he once was.

Intelligence in one area of life doesn't mask stupidity in another. Even Itachi, as wise and intelligent as he was, was stupid in the way he handled Sasuke, and only realized the errors of his ways in death.

That's not smart, is it? More like common sense. Also had Madara's plan to follow.

Well, you said what I wanted to post.

Obito's left - I am going to add this here - was not even close to as bad as Sasuke's was. Not even close. Whilst Rin may not be the most solid foundation for his push-over, I think she was more symbolic in a sense. All personal tragedies are.

Simply put, the story of how Obito turned evil was not convincing.

Obito was a Shinobi. He became a Chunning at age 9. And it's not like he never killed an enemy before. And he was a soldier in war. So it seems hard to believe he would react like that over Rin's death, given that he admitted to know she was being by Amegakure and asked Kakashi to kill her for Konoha's sake.

And Obito never had a relationship with Rin. On top of that, they were 13 years old. If Rin didn't die, wouldn't Obito turn crazy if she refuses to go out on a date with him?

Not only that, but it was stupid. Like, Obito turned evil and was destroying everything Rin worked and sacrificed her life for. That was such a stupid reason to turn evil. Even if it did make sense he'd react like that, it doesn't make sense Obito would be an idiot and not care about anything and work against her wishes. His backstory is one of the worst, and so full of fail and idiocy.

If Sasuke turned evil, if Naruto turned evil, Nagato turning evil, Gaara turning evil, etc made sense because they all suffered losses and/or horrible treatment shaped by their environment. Obito... just lost a crush but he was never alone or betrayed or anything. He still had Kakashi and Minato, at the least, and he was never treated badly by anyone but Kakashi. Even then, they resolved their issues and became butt buddies.

At least HxH never got this derpy.
