Inside every human being exists the capacity to be manipulated. Predisposition or no. You even mentioned Nagato. But Zetsu only was able to do this because the Uchiha had this genetic predisposition. Nagato proves that such megalomania is certainly not exclusive to the Uchiha because he was an Uzimaki. However, it has to be said that there is a grain of truth in Tobirama's evaluation. The Sharingan awakens in times of extreme stress and emotional difficulty. Though with Sarada, we may have seen the first known instance of a Sharingan awakening because of positive emotion. If strong positive emotion can wake the Sharingan, then that's interesting. However, it seems that strong emotions (positive or negative) are a pre-requisite for the Sharingan.
All Tobirama knew was that strong negative emotions did it. He could have been incomplete in his analysis in that all that it required were strong emotions in general - which could be positive OR negative. From Tobirama's incomplete information, it would indeed seem like the Sharingan was a 'curse' because it gave a road to greater power but could only be obtained by great trauma. Such trauma would tend to produce an unstable person that could be a threat to those around them just like a Jinchuriiki.
So putting all the blame on Zetsu is not accurate. The Uchiha would have tendencies towards instability whether Zetsu had been around or not because the 'easy' road to power would lead them to experience trauma and hatred as a means of awakening the Sharingan. That means they would be people that would be prone to grudges, revenge, and other issues. Maybe Sarada can show them a new way.
Yep. Sorry.KiSwordsman said:Is that really still a thing?
Zetsu was keikakku-ing everything behind the scenes, but he didn't fake the Curse of Hatred. He exploited it.I thought it was revealed that Zetsu was just fucking with people for millennia, or centuries or what have you?
Heh, no. Recovering from a mental disease doesn't mean you had the strength to prevent succumbing to it before hand. Not to mention neither of them could do the shit immediately. It took decades. For fuck's sake, all three of them had to die at least once before managing to release their hatred. However, I view it like this, if an Uchiha, has the capacity (Obito, Madara, Sasuke) to come back from whatever bout of crazy the Sharingan induces, that also means that they have the capacity (Shisui, Kagami, Itachi) to not go crazy at all which ultimately means that the choice is their own.
What do you actually mean by tendency towards instability? Are you suggesting that you would remain calm and unaffected even if your whole beloved ones are butchered in front of u?But Zetsu only was able to do this because the Uchiha had this genetic predisposition. If I had no scruples, and I knew that there were people that I could cause to obtain incredible super-powers by butchering their loved ones, then I would certainly try to manipulate that to my advantage. The Uchiha would be like nuclear bombs I could create by doing what Madara & Zetsu did by manipulating them until I got one to go full on nutso and pointed him at the target I wanted. Surely you can see how such a family of potential weapons would be either tempted to obtain greater power for themselves by exposing themselves to stressful conditions - or would be vulnerable to having other people engineering those circumstances. What do you actually mean by tendency towards instability? Are you suggesting that you would remain calm and unaffected even if your whole beloved ones are butchered in front of u?
The Uchiha are unique emotionally in that they're the only people who have no control over their emotions due to actual mystical properties that make it hard to do so. The Uchiha don't just gain strength from their hatred, all the love they held for the one they lost turns into hatred, and they continuously spiral downwards because of it. That's not the normal human condition. People don't replace love with hatred when they lose someone. NORMAL people replace it with sadness. They wallow in despair and then they get over it.Delbi said:The Uchiha "curse" is nothing more than the human condition, only difference being with an Uchiha it awakens power. There is nothing unique about the Uchiha's emotionally. We've seen a wide array of different Uchiha's from an emotional standpoint, they are just like any normal group of humans in the Narutoverse from an emotional standpoint.
They aren't unique, all people grieve differently. Not everyone turns to despair when they lose love, some act our with anger, others can see things and simply move on. So by no means are the Uchiha different than anyone else. Hell, Naruto could be considered an Uchiha for how many times he gave into hatred and allowed the Kyuubi to manifest so he could kill his opponents. The Uchiha are unique emotionally in that they're the only people who have no control over their emotions due to actual mystical properties that make it hard to do so. Actual experiments? Please show me these experiments. Tobirama went on a hypothesis based on things we have no idea about. And his hypothesis was proven wrong via the examples I gave above. These aren't mere exceptions or outliers either.Again: Tobirama had science backing him. Actual experiments. What are you guys basing this "Curse of Hatred doesn't exist" stance on? I'm guessing it's not autopsies you performed on Uchiha corpses.
Indra wasn't an Uchiha who's eyes manifested from intense emotions. He was born with Hagoromo's power and likely would have been better suited to endure it than an Uchiha would.Holt said:To be honest, I don't think the Uchiha were destined to be evil or anything like that. Tracing back to Indra, everything was pretty normal back in the day except the fact that he was a genius who didn't need others while Ashura was the opposite. However, after his father named Ashura his successor and died, Indra battled him for superiority and Ashura happily obliged (this of course was instigated by BZ). That's hardly anything tragic and seeing as Indra is the ancestor of the Uchiha, whatever curse that existed would have been strongest in him.
Dark chakra, not "dark part". Chakra that effects the way their brain works. This is the part you guys keep sweeping under the rug to make sure Sasuke is held responsible for his actions: the chakra, and it's affect on the brain. As for Tobirama's experiments, well the Uchiha were in a dire situation at the time and he probably experimented on those who were already on the dark part. It's hardly surprising given the tension between them and the village. Also remember that when Madara left Konoha, the Uchiha refused to follow him instead opting to stay and get along with Hashirama and the village. It was after they saw how Tobirama and the others treated them, they decided that Madara was right. Whichever way you trace it, there's no single uchiha who went crazy on his own just because.
And of all those people, only the Uchiha grieve in a way that causes actual ninja magic juju to appear out of nowhere and fog up their brain. I don't... why is no one acknowledging this?Delbi said:They aren't unique, all people grieve differently.
I can show you proof of them: http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/681/15Actual experiments? Please show me these experiments.
I, believe it or not, agree. Although, I don't think everyone always backed Tobirama's claims, I would probably have a hundred less posts if that had been the case. And I do believe that historically Zetsu exacerbated the issue, that there was a predisposition seems to be relatively well-established in the manga. It's something that has to be considered when dealing with Uchiha, however, it's also something that should be considered as a mitigating factor of sorts when things seem to go awry. As Sasuke is an Uchiha, the same would seem to apply. Whether one likes Sasuke or not, it should be pretty clear that there were factors beyond the happenings of his early life that influenced his decisions and actions considerably.Couldn't care less whether any of you can believe it. What I want to know is whether you can disprove it or not.
Everyone was ready to believe Tobirama's claims when they thought it gave them an opportunity to paint the entire clan as insane murderers, but once they realized that his claims justified the stance that Sasuke isn't completely responsible for his actions, everyone decides they want to retcon what was stated in the manga.
Come to think of it, Indra probably really did have far greater hatred than anyone else in the Uchiha clan... because HIS was so great he had to hijack ninja bodies all over time to continue his pursuit of vengeance.
See the problem is that you are using a non-existent curse to justify actions. You ignored what I said. Yes people have suffered different tragedies and didn't decided to destroy the world, however, you have forgotten those 3 didn't just go off the rails like that. Madara lost all his brothers and still wasn't going to destroy the world. He decided to continue fighting Hashirama and the Senju as they were in a war but they settled and Madara even helped build konoha. He stayed in konoha without further issues until he saw that Tobirama and the others wouldn't accept him. Even then, his next set of actions were based on the stone tablet that Zetsu had modified. The same happened with Obito. Despite watching kakashi kill Rin, he spared him and only went back to Madara because they latter had promised a perfect world in mugen tsukuyomi. As for Sasuke, he lost his entire family and was made to relive the event by Itachi's genjutsu but he still found friends and a normal life in the village. Even when he left the village it was because Orochimaru had tempted him with power. There was no single situation where an uchiha went crazy on their own. There was always tragic events and active manipulation behind them and they took actions based on that.Indra wasn't an Uchiha who's eyes manifested from intense emotions. He was born with Hagoromo's power and likely would have been better suited to endure it than an Uchiha would.
How many non Uchiha experienced tragic moments in life and turned into a psychos the way Obito, Sasuke, and Madara did? They were few and far between, and those that did had some form of mystical attachment to make sure their hatred festered. Gaara had Shukkaku. The Uchiha had the Sharingan's enfeebling chakra. Nagato had the Rinnegan, which would likely have douryoku likened to the Sharingan. Kakashi didn't try to destroy the village when his father committed suicide. He didn't lose himself in pain after acquiring the Mangekyou Sharingan the way an Uchiha would either. Tsunade just became a drunk after lusing Dan and whats-his-face. The looooooong list of ninja that didn't go bat-shit crazy after experiencing loss likened to that of Sasuke, Obito, and Madara is immensely huge, and none of them were Uchiha.
You're essentially making my point for me, lol.
What's worse, and further solidifies my claim is what it actually takes for an Uchiha to escape their fate: http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/619/11 Itachi had insight that rivaled that of a Hokage when he was a child. You guys are acting like ANY Uchiha could simply match him when it comes to insight and understanding. They also state explicitly that he's sensitive meaning he wasn't self obsessed about his own emotions the way Uchiha generally are.
.
Nothing fogs up their brain. Only Madara, Obito and Sasuke had any issues with their brain being "fogged up" and that's because they were manipulated. Madara by Zetsu, Obito by Madara, and Sasuke but Itachi, Orochimaru and Obito. You don't have one example of an Uchiha going bonkers without them being manipulated. All the hearsay evidence isn't evidence at all.And of all those people, only the Uchiha grieve in a way that causes actual ninja magic juju to appear out of nowhere and fog up their brain. I don't... why is no one acknowledging this?
Which tells us nothing. Tobirama wasn't a medical ninja, he was into ninjutsu. How that page tells you Tobirama unlocked the secrets the Uchiha genes I don't know.I can show you proof of them: http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/681/15
Ummm, The Senju clan was "The Clan of a Thousand Techniques". Tobirama created a fucking reanimation jutsu to better kill his own enemies lol. Other ninja's create Jinchuriki to better kill their enemies. Kumo horded ninjutsu to kill their enemies better. Tschuikage's had a history of crushing their allies after they won battles together. What you are describing is Shinobi tendencies which is not something unique to the Uchiha clan. What did they need that power for though? That's right: to crush the people who wronged them. To annihilate the clan that was killing their brothers and sisters. For vengeance. Hatred (or rather love) drove the Uchiha clan to destruction. Not normal human tendencies.
