But Zetsu only was able to do this because the Uchiha had this genetic predisposition. Nagato proves that such megalomania is certainly not exclusive to the Uchiha because he was an Uzimaki. However, it has to be said that there is a grain of truth in Tobirama's evaluation. The Sharingan awakens in times of extreme stress and emotional difficulty. Though with Sarada, we may have seen the first known instance of a Sharingan awakening because of positive emotion. If strong positive emotion can wake the Sharingan, then that's interesting. However, it seems that strong emotions (positive or negative) are a pre-requisite for the Sharingan.

All Tobirama knew was that strong negative emotions did it. He could have been incomplete in his analysis in that all that it required were strong emotions in general - which could be positive OR negative. From Tobirama's incomplete information, it would indeed seem like the Sharingan was a 'curse' because it gave a road to greater power but could only be obtained by great trauma. Such trauma would tend to produce an unstable person that could be a threat to those around them just like a Jinchuriiki.

So putting all the blame on Zetsu is not accurate. The Uchiha would have tendencies towards instability whether Zetsu had been around or not because the 'easy' road to power would lead them to experience trauma and hatred as a means of awakening the Sharingan. That means they would be people that would be prone to grudges, revenge, and other issues. Maybe Sarada can show them a new way.
Inside every human being exists the capacity to be manipulated. Predisposition or no. You even mentioned Nagato.

I just disagree with placing all the blame on Tobirama's analysis. Because what that does is it provides excuses, it provides a way for Uchiha not to assume responsibility for their own actions. That's not cool, especially when there exists Uchiha that attained the same level of power but didn't go crazy. And the Uchiha that went crazy could come back from it, so if that fact is true then them not going crazy at all is a possibility, no, a certainty. Which in turn means that the buck falls with them, it's ultimately on them and they can't blame it on some genetic predisposition.

There's also the fact that same predisposition that Tobirama came up with was used as a means to isolate the Uchiha and treat them unfairly (not in his eyes but...). However, now it's being used as something in their defense, as reasoning behind some of the ridiculous actions that have unfolded? Come on now.

Yep. Sorry.

I thought it was revealed that Zetsu was just fucking with people for millennia, or centuries or what have you?
Zetsu was keikakku-ing everything behind the scenes, but he didn't fake the Curse of Hatred. He exploited it.

And I'm not just saying that to excuse Sasuke of his actions. I'm saying it cause a muhfuggah got RECIEPTS:

First, proof that the Sharingan grants a wielder greater, more potent power the more they give in to their hatred: http://www.mangapanda.com/93-44811-8/naruto/chapter-478.html

Then, Black Zetsu tempts Indra into starting war with his brother... and later claims that the Infinite Tsukiyomi would set the Uchiha free. Free from what? The Uchiha Curse of Hatred most likely.

http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/681/12

Also, Tobirama's claims about the Uchiha didn't come from superstition: he did experiments on dead Uchiha. It was an informed decision.

http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/681/15

However, I view it like this, if an Uchiha, has the capacity (Obito, Madara, Sasuke) to come back from whatever bout of crazy the Sharingan induces, that also means that they have the capacity (Shisui, Kagami, Itachi) to not go crazy at all which ultimately means that the choice is their own.
Heh, no. Recovering from a mental disease doesn't mean you had the strength to prevent succumbing to it before hand. Not to mention neither of them could do the shit immediately. It took decades. For fuck's sake, all three of them had to die at least once before managing to release their hatred.

And for everyone with their "Itachi didn't fall for it therefore it can't be used as an excuse that the Sharingan causes the same symptoms in all Uchiha", remember that Itachi didn't go through half the shit that Obito, Madara, or Sasuke did. Not even HALF.

I promise you, if Danzou had killed Sasuke back when Itachi was still a kid, he would've become the next Madara. Wouldn't have been that strong because he's not an Indra reincarnate, but he would've been in the same boat as Sasuke.

Re: Naruto Gaiden 5 Discussion / 6 Predictions

Yes Yes Uchiha have strong emotions that run deep and when this love turns to anger it fuels their hatred.

So yes Uchiha are predisposed by their genetics to be EMO ...all FACT! It has nothing to do with their chakra it's in their genes.

A Uchiha with a strong mind and spirit can overcome this. In that regard they could be compared to the Vulcan's from Star Trek for anyone that knows how violent they are when they loose their emotional control.

What do you actually mean by tendency towards instability? Are you suggesting that you would remain calm and unaffected even if your whole beloved ones are butchered in front of u?
Lets rewind some events that actually happens to Uchihas

1. Uchiha Madara: His last brother that he wanted to protect even at cost of his life got annihilated in front of his eyes. I would have love to see Hashirama's reaction when event got reverse and Izzuna killed Tobirama in front of his eyes. Would he still be a positive person? Would he still extent his hand to MAdara for friendship? Can he trust Izuna?
Or would Hashirama remain calm when he realised that Madara will be Hokage and Izuna will be next and Izuna despised and don't trust senju which might lead to extinction of Senju? I don't think so.

2. Uchiha Obito: He trusted his friend Kakashi so much that he even left his sharingan so that kakshi can protect his love Rin. NUt what happened his only love Rin was chidoried by his most trusted friend in front of his eyes. What makes you think he will remain calm and say no need to hold grudge it happens in ninja world, ok kiri guys go home peacefully. LOL.
Obito never blamed that in Kakshi or Kiri or Konoha. He blame that to reality.

3. Uchiha Sasuke: He was just a 8 or 10 yr old kid when his own brother killed his whole family and clan in front of his eyes. What makes you think he will remain stable. On top of that Orochimaru the most twisted guy in Naruto gave him cursed mark which subconsciously reminded him about his clan and family on regular doses. Do you think Naruto would be fined if his parents were to butchered in front of his eyes at that age.

NOw when Sasuke got revenged fro his brother, he realised it was all village's elders fault. They actually forced Itachi to do it. And they blame every thing on Itachi while they enjoy the trust and faith of villagers. Do u think that is fair?

Our beloved hero Naruto mother of forgiving got instable when he heard something wrong about Sasuke, or when Hinata which he doesn't cared much was killed. You think only Uchiha has tendency towards instability.

And how do you think Uchiha will remained loyal to the village after all that vilages has done to them?
First they were pushed outskirt from the village coz Tobirama their beloved Hokage don't believe them.
Second They wer put under 24 hr surveillance whic Uchihas knows.
Third Konoha police were only made of Uchihas. And people tends to hate the guys that restrict them from doing what they want. Which causes common hate against Uchiha among the villagers. Good job Tobirama
Fourth Uchiha are not allowed to participate in Kyuubi attack cause the y don't trust Uchiha, that was first open signaled that village elders don't trust uchihas. And Hokage didn't even explaind the situation to villagers that it was them that didn't allow Uchiha to participate in that attack i n a manner that will stop the animosity.
But no, they have to remain silent and see what uchiha does after this. That is basically inviting them to wage war against them.
Fifth Hokage or the elders never tried to be open with Uchiha. Uchiha atleast have two shinobi that were open to disscussion. They just has to plan how to killed and defend the village against uchiha. Lol
And what actually Hiruzen was thinking when he listen to Danzo even though he knows how twisted the guy is?

KNow after all these if any people with brain will go against the village.

I wanted to ask that how many sacrifice Uchiha has to give so that they can trust them.

If I had no scruples, and I knew that there were people that I could cause to obtain incredible super-powers by butchering their loved ones, then I would certainly try to manipulate that to my advantage. The Uchiha would be like nuclear bombs I could create by doing what Madara & Zetsu did by manipulating them until I got one to go full on nutso and pointed him at the target I wanted. Surely you can see how such a family of potential weapons would be either tempted to obtain greater power for themselves by exposing themselves to stressful conditions - or would be vulnerable to having other people engineering those circumstances.

As far as your examples go - you appear to be missing the point. Hashirama did not have a set of powers that specifically became activated because of trauma. But Madara did, Obito did, and Sauske did. They had genetic predispositions to OBTAINING THE SHARINGAN because that is part of their family genetic lineage. But the Sharingan does not awaken except under extreme emotional stress. The mere fact that a person has the Sharingan means that they have already experienced incredible trauma, pain, and suffering. Whether it is 'fair' or not is missing the point.

The situation is simple. The Uchiha are genetically prone towards instability and vengeance because of the circumstances of the Sharingan's awakening. To get it - they have to be exposed to bad mojo. Sure - other people can be exposed to bad situations and also can snap (Nagato for example, or Naruto when Pain stabbed Hinata). However, most other people do not have superpowers that specifically manifest under those exact conditions. Uchihas do. That makes them prone to instability. That's all.

The Uchiha "curse" is nothing more than the human condition, only difference being with an Uchiha it awakens power. There is nothing unique about the Uchiha's emotionally. We've seen a wide array of different Uchiha's from an emotional standpoint, they are just like any normal group of humans in the Narutoverse from an emotional standpoint.

The Uchiha are unique emotionally in that they're the only people who have no control over their emotions due to actual mystical properties that make it hard to do so. The Uchiha don't just gain strength from their hatred, all the love they held for the one they lost turns into hatred, and they continuously spiral downwards because of it. That's not the normal human condition. People don't replace love with hatred when they lose someone. NORMAL people replace it with sadness. They wallow in despair and then they get over it.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying the stuff he did isn't horrible. I'm just saying the choices he made weren't with a clear mind. He was designed to make the choices he made. It wasn't as simple as "Do I want to kill these people? Do I want to destroy Konoha? Do I want friends in my life? Is it okay that I'm being an asshole to the people that care about me?"

Again: Tobirama had science backing him. Actual experiments. What are you guys basing this "Curse of Hatred doesn't exist" stance on? I'm guessing it's not autopsies you performed on Uchiha corpses.

To be honest, I don't think the Uchiha were destined to be evil or anything like that. Tracing back to Indra, everything was pretty normal back in the day except the fact that he was a genius who didn't need others while Ashura was the opposite. However, after his father named Ashura his successor and died, Indra battled him for superiority and Ashura happily obliged (this of course was instigated by BZ). That's hardly anything tragic and seeing as Indra is the ancestor of the Uchiha, whatever curse that existed would have been strongest in him. As for the other ones, they had tragic things happen to them that explain why they turned out that way. Madara lost all his brothers and understandably continued to war against Hashirama. Still, he came together and created Konoha with Hashirama. He ultimately left the village again after he understood Tobirama and the others wouldn't accept him. Also remember that he told Hashirama that after reading the stone tablet he came to another conclusion. This is the same stone tablet that BZ had edited to suit Kaguya's revival. Also realize that it was Madara who manipulated events which caused Obito to also turn over. Obito as well didn't agree until he watched Rin die at Kakashi's hands. Even then, he spared Kakashi's life and when he went back to Madara as the latter had already painted Mugen Tsukuyomi as a perfect scene where everyone wins. You have to note that it's not just some random fate thing, for those who went complete crazy and all, there was active motivation and manipulation based on the falsities that BZ had created.

As for Tobirama's experiments, well the Uchiha were in a dire situation at the time and he probably experimented on those who were already on the dark part. It's hardly surprising given the tension between them and the village. Also remember that when Madara left Konoha, the Uchiha refused to follow him instead opting to stay and get along with Hashirama and the village. It was after they saw how Tobirama and the others treated them, they decided that Madara was right. Whichever way you trace it, there's no single uchiha who went crazy on his own just because.

They aren't unique, all people grieve differently. Not everyone turns to despair when they lose love, some act our with anger, others can see things and simply move on. So by no means are the Uchiha different than anyone else. Hell, Naruto could be considered an Uchiha for how many times he gave into hatred and allowed the Kyuubi to manifest so he could kill his opponents.

Itachi, Shisui and Kagami were all good people and never succumbed to any sort of curse. Hell, Fugaku and Mikoto allowed their son to kill them with smiles on their faces.

Again: Tobirama had science backing him. Actual experiments. What are you guys basing this "Curse of Hatred doesn't exist" stance on? I'm guessing it's not autopsies you performed on Uchiha corpses.
Actual experiments? Please show me these experiments. Tobirama went on a hypothesis based on things we have no idea about. And his hypothesis was proven wrong via the examples I gave above. These aren't mere exceptions or outliers either.

The Curse is nothing more than a trick. An excuse. And in the case of Tobirama and Madara a self fulfilling prophecy.

The Uchiha that killed one another did so for power. That isn't what the curse is about, they merely wanted to exploit their own blood line limit. Other ninja followed similar practices in Kiri where they killed to see who was the strongest.

Madara, Obito, and Sasuke were all heavily manipulated into succumbing to hatred. None of them simply went batshit because of chemical or chakra response in their brain. They were all, all three of them manipulated by someone. All three of them suffered loses that would break most men. It drove them insane like it would any other human.

Look at Gaara. He turned into a psychopath because of years of neglect and abuse. Look at Hanzo, who turned into a hermit afraid of everyone because of the problems that occurred in his village. Some people are stronger mentally and emotionally than others. And everyone has their breaking point. Gaara, Naruto, Kakashi, Tsuande, Sasuke...need I go on? All of them at some point or another broke down mentally and emotionally...and then all of them got over it.

If this was a true curse there would be no breaking it. But as we've seen, every Uchiha can break the curse, because no curse exists.

The Uchiha who succumbed to the "curse" did so because of their environments, not because of their genetics. They were special because they suffered more than human ever should, and were then manipulated into madness.

Indra wasn't an Uchiha who's eyes manifested from intense emotions. He was born with Hagoromo's power and likely would have been better suited to endure it than an Uchiha would.

As for the other ones, they had tragic things happen to them that explain why they turned out that way.

How many non Uchiha experienced tragic moments in life and turned into a psychos the way Obito, Sasuke, and Madara did? They were few and far between, and those that did had some form of mystical attachment to make sure their hatred festered. Gaara had Shukkaku. The Uchiha had the Sharingan's enfeebling chakra. Nagato had the Rinnegan, which would likely have douryoku likened to the Sharingan. Kakashi didn't try to destroy the village when his father committed suicide. He didn't lose himself in pain after acquiring the Mangekyou Sharingan the way an Uchiha would either. Tsunade just became a drunk after lusing Dan and whats-his-face. The looooooong list of ninja that didn't go bat-shit crazy after experiencing loss likened to that of Sasuke, Obito, and Madara is immensely huge, and none of them were Uchiha.

You're essentially making my point for me, lol.

What's worse, and further solidifies my claim is what it actually takes for an Uchiha to escape their fate: http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/619/11 Itachi had insight that rivaled that of a Hokage when he was a child. You guys are acting like ANY Uchiha could simply match him when it comes to insight and understanding. They also state explicitly that he's sensitive meaning he wasn't self obsessed about his own emotions the way Uchiha generally are.

As for Tobirama's experiments, well the Uchiha were in a dire situation at the time and he probably experimented on those who were already on the dark part. It's hardly surprising given the tension between them and the village. Dark chakra, not "dark part". Chakra that effects the way their brain works. This is the part you guys keep sweeping under the rug to make sure Sasuke is held responsible for his actions: the chakra, and it's affect on the brain.

Do you mind proving to me that other ninja in the manga, when they're angry, produce a chakra that seeps into their brain and distorts their train of thought?

I'll wait for the manga scan.

Delbi said:

I can show you proof of them: http://www.mangapanda.com/naruto/681/15

The Uchiha that killed one another did so for power. That isn't what the curse is about, they merely wanted to exploit their own blood line limit. Other ninja followed similar practices in Kiri where they killed to see who was the strongest.

What did they need that power for though? That's right: to crush the people who wronged them. To annihilate the clan that was killing their brothers and sisters. For vengeance. Hatred (or rather love) drove the Uchiha clan to destruction. Not normal human tendencies.

What is this nonsense about Uchihas being cursed? People actually believe a douche like Tobirama.
Tell me one character in Naruto who has suffered as three Uchihas and being manipulated but didn't went insane.
People compare Tsunade with uchihas tragedy lol. She lost her brother and boyfriend in a war I said WAR. Nobody murder them, they were treated as war hero. And many people like Jiraya are there to console her. And nobody tried to twist and manipulate her.

You guys compare this Tsunade incident with Sasuke's. His whole family was butchered in front of his eyes for sake of the village yet his brother was treated as criminal. His brother manipulate him to hate him, orochimaru exploit that, Tobi again manipulate him. Even after that all he seek truth and even got enough courage to forgive them and walk forward. Can you guys actually compare to that piece of trash Tsunade who talk about Hokage as scums.

Point is These three uchihas has faced worst tragedy a human can faced in their life and has met people that actually exploit those tragedy and guide them to dark path.

Any person will do the same as Uchihas did under same circumstances. Naruto has given to his hatred many times. Don't forget that.

Couldn't care less whether any of you can believe it. What I want to know is whether you can disprove it or not.

Everyone was ready to believe Tobirama's claims when they thought it gave them an opportunity to paint the entire clan as insane murderers, but once they realized that his claims justified the stance that Sasuke isn't completely responsible for his actions, everyone decides they want to retcon what was stated in the manga.

Come to think of it, Indra probably really did have far greater hatred than anyone else in the Uchiha clan... because HIS was so great he had to hijack ninja bodies all over time to continue his pursuit of vengeance.

I, believe it or not, agree. Although, I don't think everyone always backed Tobirama's claims, I would probably have a hundred less posts if that had been the case. And I do believe that historically Zetsu exacerbated the issue, that there was a predisposition seems to be relatively well-established in the manga. It's something that has to be considered when dealing with Uchiha, however, it's also something that should be considered as a mitigating factor of sorts when things seem to go awry. As Sasuke is an Uchiha, the same would seem to apply. Whether one likes Sasuke or not, it should be pretty clear that there were factors beyond the happenings of his early life that influenced his decisions and actions considerably.

They also state explicitly that he's sensitive meaning he wasn't self obsessed about his own emotions the way Uchiha generally are.

.
See the problem is that you are using a non-existent curse to justify actions. You ignored what I said. Yes people have suffered different tragedies and didn't decided to destroy the world, however, you have forgotten those 3 didn't just go off the rails like that. Madara lost all his brothers and still wasn't going to destroy the world. He decided to continue fighting Hashirama and the Senju as they were in a war but they settled and Madara even helped build konoha. He stayed in konoha without further issues until he saw that Tobirama and the others wouldn't accept him. Even then, his next set of actions were based on the stone tablet that Zetsu had modified. The same happened with Obito. Despite watching kakashi kill Rin, he spared him and only went back to Madara because they latter had promised a perfect world in mugen tsukuyomi. As for Sasuke, he lost his entire family and was made to relive the event by Itachi's genjutsu but he still found friends and a normal life in the village. Even when he left the village it was because Orochimaru had tempted him with power. There was no single situation where an uchiha went crazy on their own. There was always tragic events and active manipulation behind them and they took actions based on that.

A perfect example is what happened to naruto when he fought pain. After watching Hinata being taken down, he gave in to rage and let the kyuubi lose. We even got to see the inner dialogue where kyuubi said he would destroy everything and make the pain go away and Naruto obliged. This considering that Hinata wasn't even family to him and he apparently didn't have special feelings for her. She was just a friend brought down in battle and yet Naruto was ready to give in to the kyuubi knowing the implications of that. He needed a guiding hand (Minato) to steer him away from that and we are talking about Naruto here who is supposedly filled with love and all. This is what happened with those 3 Uchiha. They went through tragedies and afterwards, where manipulated into doing what they did. The point however, remains that they choose to take the actions they took.

As for those who experienced loses but didn't go crazy, it's because there was no one trying to goad them into doing such things. Heck we even have Kakashi telling Obito after his defeat that he could have turned out like him. With Tsunade, years after she had encountered those loses, when Orochimaru approached her with an offer (which she knew wasn't for the best), she seriously consider it. If she hadn't met Naruto, she probably would have agreed to his terms knowing full well the atrocities Orochimaru would commit when healed.

The uchiha get power with stronger emotions but it isn't programmed to only work with negative emotions.

And of all those people, only the Uchiha grieve in a way that causes actual ninja magic juju to appear out of nowhere and fog up their brain. I don't... why is no one acknowledging this?
Nothing fogs up their brain. Only Madara, Obito and Sasuke had any issues with their brain being "fogged up" and that's because they were manipulated. Madara by Zetsu, Obito by Madara, and Sasuke but Itachi, Orochimaru and Obito. You don't have one example of an Uchiha going bonkers without them being manipulated. All the hearsay evidence isn't evidence at all.

Which tells us nothing. Tobirama wasn't a medical ninja, he was into ninjutsu. How that page tells you Tobirama unlocked the secrets the Uchiha genes I don't know.

What did they need that power for though? That's right: to crush the people who wronged them. To annihilate the clan that was killing their brothers and sisters. For vengeance. Hatred (or rather love) drove the Uchiha clan to destruction. Not normal human tendencies.
Ummm, The Senju clan was "The Clan of a Thousand Techniques". Tobirama created a fucking reanimation jutsu to better kill his own enemies lol. Other ninja's create Jinchuriki to better kill their enemies. Kumo horded ninjutsu to kill their enemies better. Tschuikage's had a history of crushing their allies after they won battles together. What you are describing is Shinobi tendencies which is not something unique to the Uchiha clan.
