Well it was kinda obvious, at the pace the manga is being written. But is it confirmed that there will be new nakamas?

well yes
Oda then added that new characters will be joining the One Piece crew
still no confirmation is really needed early in the manga luffy stated that he'll assemble 10 nakamas so based on what he meant it's either one more and counting him they'll be 10 or not counting luffy and we'll get 2 more in the crew

Thanks for sharing the link.

I believe it would be nice to have new members in Straw Hat's crew. From what Oda has said, he probably would be adding it soon. Whether it is one or two new members, it would be gradual with one at a time.

Oh, I wonder who the new candidate is. hehe! :)

Is that an order ? :)
Is that an order ? :)
haha no of course, I just read this interview (there is one more from NYC I think) where Oda explains his influences for One Piece, like the Rubber Rubber fruit came from Odas lazy side, he wanted to reach things from the desk ^^

I thought that this interview post could be the answer on our "nakama questions" - and Odas health ofc!

Do you think he is being serious with his sleep times? Oo
Sounds kinda inhuman...

Thank you for sharing, Cavendish. But even though this is actually rather old information, I don't think this interview nor any other insight into a Mangaka's job, especially Oda, would give them any bonus, as some other mangaka already published his schedule while working on a story for a popular Shounen Magazine.

People who read their manga for free and illegally as Edited Manga only and just annotate negatively about pace, length or breaks/hiatuses don't have anything like patience or empathy - so there's no need to waste one's time with it. They just want the manga's arc to end right now and develop the way they expect and want. That is indeed a simple pattern to "criticise" - but it can last as long as those long-term stories go on and is easy to pull out from week to week.

One Piece, Fairy Tail, Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball - they all had to face this. Both Shingeki no Kyoujin, Toriko and any other long-term story that is about to follow them up will suffer from this, too. You just have to observe so-called fanbase forums - which is what I'm going back to do now again.

It's really wonderful he confirmed himself that there is still a lot to tell although I wonder whether 10 years will really be enough. Unless he'll suddenly start to prune his chapters to the essential parts he will probably extend even this deadline.

That aside, even though Oda told us about his sleeping schedule about a decade ago and a few other mangakas claim to sleep as little as him I'm still skeptical that he doesn't take any other naps.

Whom?
so there's no need to waste one's time with it.
With what? What are referring to?

Ive known this before the time skip. The story has WAYYY too much to cover where it would take at least 12 years to fulfill. And that's absolutely fine, because I love one piece.

Hopefully Oda really means running One Piece for 10 years, not stretching it like a piece of gum until its stale. Looking at Naruto/Bleach here.

We will probably have at least another 500 chapters. There's about 52 weeks per year. Count 12 weeks for Oda to rest, that leaves 40 manga chapters per year.

12 more years. Am gonna have grandchildren when One Piece ends.

Easily at this pace, but I kind of hope so as long as his health holds. He keeps things entertaining. He can take 20+ more years no problem if he wants to. I'll read it. It would only suck if something bad happens to him and he can't finish his master piece. Many other Mangakas who experience similar face don't make subsequent mangas that are as popular. It's probably safe to say One Piece will be his most lasting and best work. If he can keep us entertained for another 20 years good for him.

"Oda then added that new characters will be joining the One Piece crew"

Should we assume he just means newer pirates, not necessarily new characters with the strawhats

Forget about grandchildren, it'd stink if I died before seeing One Piece to its conclusion!... Even though... Waiting that long would also stink!... I have some foul smells to compare here...
