If you get flame for what you just said about Escanor being stupid, then send em to me! Because as a bit of a fanboy, even i can admit that was stupid of him. It was likely down to instinct that he tried to block it, but, he just didn't think about an ability he had only seen used once before. But, overall... yeah, he was fairly stupid for doing that the second time round. implication wise, yeah... the situation was terrible for him and the power he got did seem to leave Estarossa bewildered with how much stronger he'd become. I mean, he even managed to attack him without him noticing (Unless he got that wound during the exchange of blows before hand where Escanor got full countered? though i doubt it). It did seem that Escanor's power up was quite large, but, i believe there was likely more to it than simply a massive buff.I believe everyone's wondered why Escanor was, umm, stupid (crap, here comes the flame) enough to attack Estarossa physically the second time when he could've imbued Rhitta with his magic or something. But still, that doesn't have to do with what was implied - Estarossa supposedly had the upper hand in terms of magic, and Full Counter made it possible to reflect physical attacks, so the battle was going pretty well for him. After that, we see the Sun, we get an idea of what time it is, we see Escanor's muscles swelling, and we see Estarossa claiming that his power levels are surging, so I believe it's very safe to assume he received a pretty good boost.
I understand your assumption, but he was probably confident because he knew he was going to get stronger.
Actually... judging by how much larger the sun he made became... could it be assumed that Escanor's massive boost all came in the form of magic (or mostly?)
I mean... if Escanor powers up physically first, then his magic is controllable and then his magic starts up and Rhitta becomes unable to stop the output of Sunshine and his magic greatly increases???
That could be a possibility!
I don't think Escanor, as a character, would feel confident knowing he was going to win because he was going to power up... i get the feeling he might have thought "i still stand a chance" or "This guy is a worthy opponent" and then estarossa started running his jaw and he responded to that by going 'Playtime is over". Just my opinion though, everyone's entitled to one after all
