I guess it‘s about these three guys( starting from the right side I guess). Gotta say I‘ve been thinking about these guys quite a lot when the chapter came out. One of my thoughts was“ They look like fooder and yet there‘s so much detail in everyone of them“
So I‘m sincerely sorry Oda-Sensei for mistaking you for fodder, lol.

Okay a few things:

What was piracy like between Joyboy and Roger's eras? Roger's crew is INCREDIBLY well-put-together with like all bases covered, but most crews we see in the modern day are rag-tag as fuck. The Supernova crews, the biggest rookies in the post-Roger era, ain't none of them got slots like a tactical officer or torture officer or intelligence officer... aside from, I assume, Blackbeard's crew- and that can be chalked up to him being a piracy Old Head (despite technically being contemporary with the other Supernovae rookies). I get the feeling that piracy itself was on the cusp of extinction before Roger and Rocks lit the world back on fire, and Roger's declaration just before being executed was more a 'final nail in the coffin' situation for the WG never being able to snuff out Joyboy's will and Nika's influence.

Oda's reaction to somebody figuring out Gil Bastar reminds me of another SBS question asked relatively recently where it was also an almost-impossible guess-observation but I can't remember it.

Yesssss I love that Gaban's name was completely out of left field. Oda's range of interests is wild.

Hol' up, I know Oda was cleverly hiding the Sheeps House location with perspective, but it's in the same village as the castle? Holy shit Harald I know you were trying to make your people more peaceful but you didn't have to utterly neuter opsec. Would it have killed you to have some guys monitoring your back yard? Maybe it did.

HOLY SHIT THE "ZUSHINDODO TRIBE" EXISTS!!

So hold on, you‘re saying the turban-like headdress featuring Luffy‘s hat placed atop what looks like Buggy‘s jolly roger is actually nothing but a pantsu?

I'll never fully understand people who look at every non-Whitebeard/Roger-like character and constantly see them as fodder. Makes for more of a downer way to read manga I imagine. lol

To me how it feels it that back in rogers era there were a ton of very powerful conquerors with strong crews who were constantly at odds with each other without any making much headway. Then we had two folk who tried to shake things up a bit... Rocks and shiki. Rocks tried to get fellow conquerors under him but the crew was never stable. Shiki tried amazing a massive force but ultimately fell to rogers crew. To me it feels a bit krieg adjacent... Big numbers but without powerful executives to serve as a backbone.

Then came the survivors of rocks who I guess took a few lessons from their experiences. They went on to build massive crews with powerful executives and powerful affiliated captains. They mostly got rid of the competition by assimilating it. They built influence that went far beyond their territories. Yonko appreciated the value of sheer military might, information , resources...

That‘s not why I took them for fodder. It‘s rather the popping up out of nowhere and posing big attitude that usually causes these kind of pirates to get fodderized by any known character good or evil. But given the situation there was noone to fodderize them anytime soon and nothing to gain from them being fodderized lol. Also their looks were outstanding so I‘m happy to have my answer now thanks to the SBS.
Anyway two examples of fodder pirates:
The pig pirates in Arabasta, and the bacteria / germ resembling pirate crew in CP9‘s cover story.
One more example the Samurai helmet (kabuto) wearing pirate (apparently named Mikazuki) on Water 7‘s Dock One. And to be honest Brownbeard was basically the same type of pirate.

I imagine those Old Heads (Joyboy, Roger, and Xebec in particular) were probably out at sea for very specific reason to begin with and had to have to their shit together to accomplish anything, especially if the Marines and WG had the seas lockdown moreso than they currently do.

IIRC it was also hinted that Elbaf giants were having supremacy at land and sea(?) for quite some time. I wonder if it was pre- or post Joyboy though. I guess it was before Joyboy did set sail. I also do wonder if this is related to Dory‘s and Broggy‘s exploits at sea , for instance like the two were inspired and following in their ancestors footsteps.
Then again Joyboy was introduced as the first pirate by Vegapunk, implying that the previous giants did not live the seafaring and plundering life, maybe the ancient continent did not have that many seas to travel in the first place. As this is just a guess I really hope we are going to learn more about the pre Void Century giants rather soon.

I guess I just think differently. I'm just amused to see what creative quirky designs Oda is willing to put out. I'm not the sort of person to have "fodder" cross their mind often.

The guy with his tongue sticking out kind of looks like a young Blackbeard.

Hmm, Roger had some interesting positions on the crew. I wonder what roles the other members had. He must have had someone who could cook, unless everyone knew how to make some rudimentary dishes, which would not be strange. I wonder who was the doctor before Crokus.

And of course, Sanada strikes again!

Also interesting to think how often Oda had considered some of these roles for the Straw Hats.

The prototype Moria was a priest with dual personalities, Chopper was funny, and Brook appeared as a poet and musician wearing a "Kamikaze" bandana, evoking the image of WW2 Japanese soldiers. The shipwright was short, and the plant user was distinct from the sniper.

Moria as a priest with dual personality syndrome huh. I can actually see Oda doing that with Moria.
I wish Oda went that way with Moria !

Not a direct reply to your comment but @costicla I feel obliged to give you credit for calling out the Dosundada to be human Tontatta hybrids. Well done! I remember myself to be in disbelief back then, lol.

Yeah to me it felt refreshing too, it‘s not that I want to call every pirate whom I can‘t powerscale and who doesn‘t look as impressive as Roger or WB fodder, it‘s just that I failed to find the meaning of said characters and so I‘m happy to have learned their purpose, it‘s a tribute from Oda to his fellow Mangaka as well as making a bit fun of himself as well while celebrating himself as a Mangaka, too.

I overlooked the Gil Baster being canonized reveal yesterday, but after letting it sink in for a bit, that's...kinda crazy. Before Gil joined the Rocks Pirates, he had a bounty of 970,000,000 in the one shot. We can only imagine how much that shot up after he was sailing with Xebec for a while. If that's the baseline of quality that Xebec was working with, then the Rocks may have been the strongest crew had they managed to work together.

Also seems Moriah was slowly trying to bebuild Rocks crew in a way with the zombies since both Gil and John ended up as General Zombies.

On side note how in the hell are there Giant x Dwarf hybrids lol. That must be some crazy science experiment.
