I am still not clear on whether that means its five years until one piece is found or 5 years until the series ends. I feel like those could be different things.

Many friends of mine who are fans burst into tears with this sudden announcement! I feel like shouting "How could you do this to us!?", but I don't want to stress you out. (P.N.: pari_bentham)


O: By "ending", I mean the juiciest part of Luffy's adventure.
Since that's when the mystery of "what is the One Piece?" is to be revealed.
Right now Wano is heating up, if Luffy is able to leave here in one piece, we'll get to a development that will engulf the entire world, the likes of which no one has read before - the greatest war in One Piece history.
I said what I said so that the reader's hearts would be prepared, since it'll be such a long arc, and one that will really pin things towards the finish line. That being said, I'm really enjoying writing and drawing Wano right now, and am pumped to finishing it!

D: Oda, I heard that a few months ago it was discovered that Page One's fruit model, the Spinosaur, actually swam in the ocean! I'm telling you this now, so you can-- wait, what!?!? You had already fixed it on chapter 983 to a tail with fins!?! Oh, c'mon! When I finally had some news to give... (P.N.: Yuchabin)

O: Oh, so you noticed it? Indeed, since Page One's introduction, they found a fossil part that is thought to be from a Spinosaur. And that changes his bone structure! I was caught in a bit of a pinch, but I thought I could sneakly change it and no one would notice, lol. Paleontology is making new discoveries every day!

Reader: Can people that have become gifters freely transform into their human forms, change shape etc.?

Oda: It depends on what fruit they consumed. Coz SMILE is an artificially made devil fruit, there are all sorts of things that are unstable. Certainly by consuming the SMILE fruits, you can acquire the abilities of animals but for cases like those where you have the user fighting with the lion on their belly, or cases where the user always gets eaten by a hippo, it's proof that the users are not able to retract/undo the animals at will. There are quite a few truly strong ones amongst them, SMILE is but it is a gamble.

I suppose this also hints at the strawhats getting all 4 road poneglyphs by the time wano ends. we know kaido has one so for this to torpedo the strawhats to the end of story stuff it also means the reveal of the final poneglyph is imminent (arcwise).

We can assume that what happened to Sabo, Vivi and co will be the cause of Luffy declaring war to WG.
WG probably killed Cobra or Vivi and they annonced Sabo as a culprit. Maybe same execution way like Ace to attract R.A. to end them.

I am sure at the end of Wano, we will have R.A. + Gorosei-Im-sama + Reverie involved.

So, once many secrets will be releaved we gonna have SH Pirates vs BB Pirates for the PK title ?

There is no doubt Vivi is with Sabo and will join the revolutionaries. I think the WG will use the excuse of the assassination to try to uproot the revolutionaries. What I am most curious about tho is what did Shanks tell the Gorosei. We can assume it is about BB, but not sure what he wanted from the Gorosei

Maybe in order to avoid a "deja vu" Oda can write another kind a story where WG attacks R.A. because Sabo "killed" Cobra and kidnapped Vivi. A Marineford 2.0 may not be so good.

I am trying to say that I always expected Luffy becoming P.K. first then challenging WG about OP, void century, etc.
From SBS, I got the impression that we gonna jump directly into all OP secrets (void century, D, etc.) then last arc fight for PK against BB.

The crazy thing is, in the end the final "War" arc took up like a third of the entire manga. It's insane how long that poorly plotted last arc was! It was about as long as the entire pre time skip, and it worked hard to make everything that came before it mean absolutely nothing. 'remember all that hard work training? The whole "you don't need to be born a genius, hard work pays off" that so many characters had, that the manga spent years hammering home as a major theme? Lol, ghost power ups at the last second!" If Oda went down that path I'd just have to pretend the end of the series never happened.

I still wonder if the marines will try a Marineford 2 on Luffy. Try to execute Sabo and Vivi to lure Luffy out.

Haha so true, mentally block out the last arc of Bleach and Naruto.

Something thats interesting, anytime you see comparisons of Naruto vs Boruto, its normally pre shippuden in terms of story telling but end of the arc when in power levels.

We Manga fans are very good at compartmentalizing.

The the massive war that will change the world will start, that makes sense, that;s pretty much what Whitebeard said before his death. Though with the pandemic and with the increased number of breaks for One Piece, it might be more that 5 years, plus who knows how long the last arc might take. One Piece might really reach 30 years at this rate.

Because OP gets presumably found. The wano arc still has a few years left... I can't imagine less than 3. So for things to play out as hinted they would have to find the final poneglyph either at the end of wano or pretty much immediately after it.

No, makes no sense. They will find the third poneglyph at the end of this war. The fourth one is unaccounted for at this stage and I doubt they will easily find it. Probably they will uncover some clues in Lodestar Island

Besides the years post Wano, that's my take away from it. I remember commenting when this "5 year" annoucement came up a few months ago and tried to work out number of chapters, I said at the time Oda would have to cut away a lot of things and some pay-offs that we're maybe expecting would be skimmed over and not addressed to a satisfactory level, but if 5 years is just to reach the climax but not the end, then I'm happy with that. As he said he's still diligently working through everything, even after the Wano arc or climax of the series is passed. Personally that's all I needed to know.

They have Odens diary though, might have a good hint where to look at. But my best guess would be BB already has it.

Chopper's alternates are so extreme, one brings medicine and the other has poison shirt on him...
