Ah I found it in an SBS thanks. Yes what Oda says it they are not father and son, not that they aren't related in any way. Like you said he could be a Grandfather, an Uncle, a Cousin, etc.

There is no VC in the strawhats.

In the SBS Oda pretty much says it's a picture of the 2nd strongest of their respective crews and that some of them, Zoro included, are not VCs.

To be fair, in that picture only Rayleigh and Beckman are "Vice Captains", as in hold the actual title of VC. Zoro and Killer are the strongests in their crews (after their captains) and pretty much act like VC but they simply haven't implemented such rank in their crew.

Bepo isn't the VC of Law's crew but "in Sulong he's the strongest after Law". King isn't "VC", he's "the strongest All Star". Marco isn't VC, he's (was) the commander of the first fleet. Shiliew isn't VC, he's the commander of the second fleet (yet stronger than the first). Sabo isn't VC, since his group isn't even pirate-based. He's the "Chief of Staff" of the RA. Katakuri is just "the strongest Sweet Commander", no VC.

Edit: Can't make that link work but the SBS question is regarding the color spread from chapter 1031.

Oda has been consistent saying no one really had more authority than the other in the crew with only luffy being numero uno
But even at that we have seen dynamics where Zoro and sanji slide into leadership positions depending on what happens
Heck even with the Addition of jinbei

On one hand, yes. Except Shiliew and Marco everyone else on that picture had already been confirmed as such, and those two were already hinted of being it.

I think sanji versus Zoro peaked during cp9 but I think in the new world Zoro kinda been clearly portrayed as stronger tho , who’s better than actually who’s stronger is different
