Ya watched the first episode, it's still pretty good. I love seeing where certain key dialogue moments are changed up to reference later stuff and where other dialogue moments are left like exactly word-for-word

It was pretty good. I like that characters are actually dying, and that certain characters are making appearances earlier than Oda created them, but at times it would make sense for them to appear.

Wasn’t a fan of Drum arc, but that’s been my least favorite arc in the manga and anime too, so I guess that shouldn’t surprise me.

Season 2 is pretty good, got me emotional again with that Chopper/Hiluluk stuff.

Extra stuff was a mixed bag for me, the idea of incorporating new foreshadowing or plain mentioning things early is nice, but I found it often overly expositional to the detriment of mystery. I'd like it more if Garp/Roger scene ended early on "I want you to promise to take care of something for me" without revealing immediatelly that Roger has a son. Also if Dorry/Broggy mentioned Sun God without calling him by name straight away. Also they somehow missed proper Blackbeard foreshadowing, skipped all that "they were just 5 people". Vivi's flashbacks with Wapol and Dalton were very appropriate and nice. Early Brook was awesome.

I don't quite like how the world revolves around Luffy immediatelly with everyone being so impressed and comparing him to Roger. It's too in-your-face for my taste, seemed way more subtle in anime/manga.

All those things, in addition to Robin just teleporting all over the islands makes the world feel small and our hero immediatelly the chosen one.

Most new characters are veeery good. Crocus, Robin, Vivi, Brook, Mr. 3, Hiluluk, Dorry and Broggy are great. Smoker, Dalton, Crocodile and Yorki are daddies. Didn't quite like Dragon's portrayal, didn't convey powerful enigma enough, although intervention scene was ok. Strawhats are great overall, although Luffy's goofiness is still translated poorly into live action IMO. They missed opportunity for good comedy when Zoro was saving Usopp and Sanji from twin sisters. Sanji should have been shitting on Zoro mid fight for hurting women while Zoro saying something "do you want to be helped or not" or something.

Also what the fuck happened with Kureha? Her random laughs separated by pauses were more awkward than Luffy.

Also also, I really hope they don't skip Skypeia down the line.

It feels like there is a bit of post production missing, many scenes look like they were recorded indoors (which post can alleviate) but regardless, way better production quality than season 1. And I agree, Taz does his role exceptionally well. Barto being included this early, (he was visible in the trailer in the background) in this way was a neat surprise. Honestly all of them fit their roles really well. Sometimes Inakis smile and laugh feels forced, but that's nitpicking at this point.
Buggy is just phenomenal. Every scene with him is a blast. The sword shop owner scene actually made me quite emotional. Smoker's capabilities were depicted quite terrifyingly and skillfully. And we also got a Sabo tease.

On Episode 4 right now. The series is chocked to the brim with close ups and it's killing me, but overall, a great improvement upon the first season. I'll do a full review once I get through the rest of the season.

Also, I wish I had the confidence to rock Mr. 5's Little Garden outfit. It looks so good.

That's completly unrealistic. Season 1 covered 95 chapters and season 2 60 chapters. Arabasta itself is 63 chapters. I'ts gonna be a full season itself.

What you are suggesting for season 3 is like 170 chapters of content. If they would to that, it would totally be like recap or spark notes, with zero value as drama series. Also ending the season with Foxy, after defeating a warlord and literal god in the same season? That's just not how drama writing works. Of course they could force something like that from the executive level, but then it's not gonna be a good series anymore, viewers will disappear and no more seasons are made.

We just have to face the fact, the Netflix is not gonna adapt the full series, or if they do, there will be recasts along the way. or it will get bad as a drama series, because it will just cut too many corners.

My guess would be something like

S3: Alabasta
S4: Jaya + Skypiea
S5: Foxy + W7 + Enies Lobby (here on out they just have start condensing a lot)
S6:Post-Enies Lobby + Thriller Bark + Shaboady
S7: Amazon Lily + Impel Down + Marineford
Time-Skip Recast
S8: Saboady + Fishman Island + Punk Hazard
S9: Dressrosa
S10: Zou + Whole Cake
S11: Wano
S12: Egghead
S13: Elbaf
S14: Final Arc?

That would be 7 seasons per cast&crew. If they can really build like a true production engine, maybe 1,5 yers per making a season. So like 21 years of adapting the full series. Bit over 10 year for both iterations of cast&crew.

But yeah, adapting this fully without compromising the drama too much is an insane task. I'm pretty sure the live-action will never go past timeskip. May even end after season 3.

EP3 Luffy vs Croc part 2, Strawhat fights, more rebel stuff, Luffy vs Croc part 3, Pell actually dies.

They could stretch it into 4 if they want to add even more Coby and Garp stuff, but even then, they still have 4 more episodes in the season. It would be easy to get through Jaya and Skypia in 4 episodes.

You must be ragebaiting right? They are not gonna skip Yuba. They are not gonna skip Vivi and Kozas backstory. Those are the emotional core of the arc and carry the drama.

You are totally underestimating how much time things take ("and stuff") and seem to forget a lot about Alabasta.

You also do know that they have already started shooting S3, and it's quite obvious they've only cast Alabasta characters and done Alabasta thing this far?

Alabasta will likely take up most of the season given that it is the first major arc of the series and there is a ton of ground to cover. Things will be streamlined, obviously, but they are clearly set on hitting all the major story beats, of which Koza and his role in Alabasta is one of.

Overall, I found the season really entertaining, and you can clearly see how much attention to detail went into it. At first, I was honestly worried it would turn out like The Witcher, where it sometimes felt like the creators didn’t really understand the source material. So big praise here, especially for the casting. They absolutely nailed it.

I also never expected Chopper to be adapted this well. Episode 7 in particular was really strong for me.

One thing that bothered me a bit isn’t really the adaptation itself, but the source material. Wapol just isn’t a strong enough antagonist for a season finale. Because of that, the whole season feels more like a buildup to Alabasta. That’s fine in principle, but it does take some impact away from the finale.

Some of the changes still pulled me out of the experience. In my opinion, Luffy is portrayed as too weak. In the original, he barely struggled before facing Crocodile, and that was important to make his eventual defeat hit much harder.

Also, in serious scenes, Luffy sometimes comes across as a bit awkward or even “cringe.” That already bothered me in season 1, since those moments felt much more epic in the manga.

At times, the characters also act a bit out of character. It doesn’t really fit that Sanji wouldn’t react to Zoro hitting a woman, and Usopp cheating on Kaya also feels off.

The final fight, unfortunately, doesn’t feel as epic as it did in the manga. It was probably kept inside the castle for budget reasons, but the scene just doesn’t have the same impact as the iconic moment with the flag on the roof.

Finally finished this season. It was such a fun watch.

Robin is a beauty and perfect, I can't imagine her any other way anymore. Mr 9. killed his role. Vivi is honestly enchanting and quite a good actress. Miss Golden Week was genuinely creepy, they really upped the horror factor for her. Since this series is a huge success I expect a bigger budget anyway. The difference between season 1 and this is already "chasmic" *wink* . Smoker in Logue Town is still my peak moment of this season.

Zoro lacking in basic education and thinking "Uvula" means it is a girl whale was genuinely funny xD
