I was thinking it was part of a pitchfork, kind of like the one held by a devil, pointing down. But I can see where you are getting the ID from.

I can see what Akainu was saying about the ID it does somewhat look similar......

BTW Akainu are you going to change your Display when we seethe real Akainu's face hehe

The other theory is it could simply have to do with the chain of command, one head stream dominating over 3 smaller subordinates, because we all know that the G works in 3's......3 central bases, 3 Admirals etc

I think that it is just to tell us that there are some real monsters (literally and figuratively) on level 5. There are the ones with high bounties because they did bad stuff, not because they were strong... AND we have also whatever was in the cell that the wimps were thrown into.

By the way... is that blood squirting out of the cage?? *cringe*

People seem to haven't noticed the fact that there was something worst than the minotaur near this cell.
Indeed if you look to this page, all the prisoners were punished by someone who has opened the door of their cell : the one with one teeth broken.

And just after his entry in the cell, the prisoners scream and we can see blood coming from the cell.

Who is he ? the boss of ID ? We just know that he seems to have the keys of the cells of L-5 as he opened one of them quickly (we suppose the L-5 on the picture means level 5). So, Luffy could have to fight him if he needs the keys of L-5 (it depends on Mr 3 interaction with the story).

could it be...jimbei? ok i just tried to guess, but looking at how most of the shichibukai are big and tough it wouldn't be WEIRD for jimbei to be giant sized (like that L5's prisoner/monster) as well, would it?

i think that key in the hole pic represents the minotaur locking the cell not anyone opening it and that man without a tooth was one of the prisoners thrown there

something that made the blood spill was in there all along

that might be a special torture/murder cage where to throw people who do not obey the rules

From your post, isto, I've thought about it and by relooking to the page of this chapter, I found it illogic. So after having thought about what happened in this page, I figure out this :

I think that the prisoners were walking in the corridor with the minotaur and two of them fighted each other (the minotaur were behind all the prisoners).

The minotaur killed the two fighters and put them with the others prisoners he was guarding in a cell for punishment, which explains why the prisoners said to the minotaur to put them out of the cell, that it was just a little fight

And he must have put them in the cell of a dangerous prisoner who killed/tortured them at the end of the picture.

I think prisoners were out of the cell with the minotaur because from a picture at the right of the page, we see other prisoners seeing from their cell the fight between the two men, which appears to be in the corridor.

And it is obvious that these two men was in front of the ones who were punished and were themselves in front of the minotaur.

So, you must not confuse with the prisoners in the corridor and other prisoners who have seen the two fighters from their cell (it is at the right of the page).

But it means that the bread story has nothing to do with the two fighters because this story is related to men in jail whereas the one with the minotaur with prisoners in the corridor.

So, for me, the man with a teeth broken is indeed a prisoner and it was the minotaur that put the rest of the prisoners he was guarding in his cell as a punishment and locked his cell.

The man without a teeth is the prisoner thrown in the cell. The black hand holding the key is the minatour. Finally the minotaur throw the guy in a jail with a giant man (look the big hand) for torture.

You mean Jinbei will bash/eat them . Hmm, it might be some prisoners indeed put inside separate cell or will beat to the pulp his/her cellmates. And they're very strong to be controlled. May be it's true that warden use them as torturer/executor. Anyway we'll see if Luffy reach that level. What's it still confusing me is there's more than a day prior to Ace execution, while Luffy already advance to L2. Where will that time will spend kinda intriguing to me. Will Luffy will get cought & managed to escaped than proceed to try saving his older brother? or he will get lost inside the Impel Down and take more time than it supposed to reach Ace? Or he might have to learn somethings that necessary that takes more that half of a day? I kinda imagine what kind of WG reaction if there massive chaos inside Impel Down. Just blow the wall & water will fill the prison,drowning everybody inside except anyone who can live underwater (fishman, merman and such).

the pitchfork is a fair enough idea to be considered and I actually thought it could be the origin of the sign, however the part on left for me never made sense in that direction.

oh I hope that one day we will se his face! that grim expression get's on my nerves from time to time

about the chain of command - well it could be. dunno where it's going though, so far we have had wardens in uniforms, those who punish the inmates and look kinda like Hannyabal running around with the pitchfork and the Blugori. But then there still is the minotaur of which we don't know if it's just one or many of them.

I agree with the fact that I was wrong about the ones going to the cell of the dangerous prisoner : it was only the two men fighting. I was thinking there were dead but it was obvious not : Thx.

But I'm not sure that there were in a cell because prisoners are looking to the fight behind bars of their cell but we don't see the bars of the cell of the two fighters (on the right of the page)

So, we have two possibilities :
- there are on a cell but it would mean the cells are connected and not separated by a wall/space. There are just separated by the same bars which mean that you can get over things from cell to cell, or for example touch the prisoners of the cell next to your.
Indeed if there was a space between the cells on the picture, you would have a wall or others bars between them but we haven't got it (we have only a railings on the picture).
But, it seems strange that you can do such things in a prison such as ID.
==> Maybe, Oda has forgotten to draw it or decided to not to make the picture easier to see
- there are not on a cell, on a corridor, walking to somewhere, guarded by the minotaur behind all the prisoners.

It is the two possibilities for me for this picture but the one with the cell put the problem of the non real separation between the cells, by a only railings. It is strange that ID would allow prisoners to communicate and get over things from cell to cell whereas our real prisons in the real world do not allow it, and are separated by more than " one " bars.

You're really bored, aren't you?

Who cares that there were some people separated from the fight with those bars? Ever heard of group cells?
Besides, they are all chained and the reason why they are all together is probably to get rid of most of them, like we saw. Having a crowded prison is a bad thing, that's for sure.

Plus I get the feeling that the further we go down ID the less "prison structured" it is going to see, I can imagine on future floors there are no cells just ppl walking around in hand cuffs but they are to terrified to attempt to escape due to some big horrible hell like torture or what have you......

That does not exclude the possibility of open floors in the 3rd or 4th level.^^ The Crimson Forrest was open in a way too. :P Even Mr.3 fears to go outside the cell 'cause of those monsters, so freedom will only come with danger in ID. g

Plus you never know Ace could be a very very special case, i mean this man is the third strongest member of the strongest crew in all the Grandline, and i don't think that's an overestimation, OR level 5 could be a return to basics....
