Coby's big chance is the upcomming war. On the one hand some Marines - even of the higher ranks - are going to die for sure. On the other hand Coby can show what he got there. Same goes for Smoker by the way.
So instead of a bounty rise for the usual characters maybe we should expect a rise in ranks for the antagonistic Marines.

Those few people will form a group somewhen I suppose which makes it easier for Oda to show their progress in the New World

its interesting how oda is going to play this out...........some people on the boat with luffy want to save ace and some want to kill whitebeard. some of the marine and shichibaki will fight luffy while some will not. i cant wait. i just cant believe that the rest of the strwhats are not taking part in this battle. in a fight like this luffy needs his crew

Maybe this will finally be Smoker's time to shine?

I would like to see some lesser marines (Coby, Jango, etc) fight. Either way, the upcoming war is simply going to be chaos and cameos. It's impossible to know now who will get the screentime deserved, I expect Oda to pull a fast one on us and promote a character we didn't really expect.

I think he knows that the Strawhats aren't bad pirates but he also knows that he can a dangerous man.
He was one of the first characters (I think) who compared Luffy to Roger so he knows that Luffy'll become a mighty pirate. If that happens he can't do anything about him Smoker is pretty aware of that I guess.

In the end Smoker knows how powerful and mighty Luffy will become and so he tries to get him before that happens. He's a marine after all.

I c, you've got a point but still i'd hope he won't get too much in Luffy's way. Luffy wants to become the man with the most freedom on see and not a guy who has a special fanclub that wants to capture/prison/execute him.

Something else, it's maybe a bit early but:

When luffy & co reach Fishman Island.... will they be welcomed as regular criminals by the mermaid princess or as Heroes because they inflicted damage on the Celestial Dragons? Elder Nyon said that Luffy shocked the world by his actions, thus the news should've been received on Fishman Island.

They'll probably be accepted quite differently from the norm, though on Fishman Island they don't really have the "regular criminals" bit because only pirates go through the Fishman Island route.

Smoker is chasing Luffy because, like many marines, he wants the pirate era to end. Smoker knows Luffy isn't a bad guy, and hence his honour when Zoro saved his life in Alabasta. However, Luffy, if he becomes the Pirate King, would represent a new surge in people wanting to become pirates.

Gol D. Roger invoked an enormous change in the world's climate and started an era of criminals. Marines seek to end this era, and Smoker has wisely seen that Luffy is a large threat to it's continuation.

Of course, Smoker might have other reasons, he's still a character that has plenty of room to grow in the eyes of the reader.

it was said that vegapunk invented technology that allowed objects to eat devil fruit so maybe zoro gets a sword with a devil fruit ability and usopp gets a giant slingshot with a devil fruit ability.....

Don't think that's gonna happen. Zoro wants to be the best swordsman and Ussop wants to be a brave warrior of the seas AND the best sharpshooter.
If their weapons they need to archive that goal have Devil Fruit powers it's like cheating.

I doubt that any upcoming Strawhat member will have DF powers anyway.
In my Opinion they have enough ability users anyway.

that's right, specially Zorro, a swordsman have to imposes himself by his swords, and lets his swords talk for him, he don't need any special powers

Though I want to see a sword with a Logia power ... if Ace hadn't eaten the fire fruit I'd like to see a sword with that fruit.
A firesword would be amazing.

I though only Zoan devil fruit that could be applied to non-living object, or else how could that "things" control it's power? I just think the opposite could happen if only elemental could be infused with Zoan Devil Fruit, such making Fire infused with Tori Tori no mi (Bird type DF) becoming a Firebird, Ice infused with eng... example Gorilla DF becoming Ice Gorilla

in the one piece world there are a few different professions and in relation to the strwhats here they are.

captain-luffy
1st mate-zoro
2nd mate-I guess usopp
doctor-chopper
navigator-nami
chef-sanji
shipwright-franky
helsman-none
cabinboy-none
archeologist-robin
musician-brook
sniper-usopp

so as this goes the strwhats are missing 2 professions. a helsman and a cabinboy/apprentice. luffy did state he wanted 10 crewman besides himself when he made it to grandline, so maybe they get 2 more people. me personally, i thought smoker and tashigi could jon, but no way smoker leaves the marines.

boa has her obligation to the kuja pirates even though she loves luffy. jinbei has his to the fishman pirates as their leader. only 2 people i can see joining to fill these slots at this point in time and if ods doesnt introduce any new characters that join the strwhats are koby and ace. koby wants to be an admiral, so maybe not.

the reason i think ace will join the strwhats is because i think whitebeard will die by blackbeards hand, and he wil join the strwhats to get revenge in the new world.

I doubt Smoker has lot's of interest in the upcoming war. His sense of justice tends to be different from the other marines. Also it will be different, once he will spot Luffy

Really, I still don't see why you think Tashigi is Zoro's love interest. Kuina, way back in his past, might have been. I agree on that. But Tashigi met Zoro once or twice, and Zoro's always been pissed because he hasn't been able to fight her. Bonney being Zoro's love interest is just as possible.

And as for Luffy, I think it's rather him being Boa's love interest and not the other way around. Luffy couldn't care less about women (or so it seems). I don't think Hancock will join the SH's though. The only one she'd actually care about and cooperate with would be Luffy, which isn't very Straw Hat-ish.

agree.....this will be a nip-and-tuck race betwenn Luffy and BB....and we all know who will win this race.
Someday Luffy has to defeat BB, like Zorro has to defeat Mihawk.......there's no getting around it.
