Roger died just some years after getting the PK title because he got his terrible illness. Nevertheless, Roger and WB suffered the same kind of things in the GL and WB managed to live and become an old man who is still a Yonkou and the strongest man in the world. Rayleigh and Garp also became old men still able to fight against world class fighters despite all the injuries and fights they went through. So, Luffy is not cursed to illness and not necessarily to Roger class illness : WB has his own illness that weakens him (Squardo could injure him) but that let him live " normally ".

Since the beginning, One Piece looks like a mythological story and thus it will likely continue to follow the same kind of development. There are two ends to a mythological story and the first looks like the good one for Luffy and the second for Roger. After the quest got achieved (One Piece => PK), the hero will come back to the normal word (out of the NW-GL => four seas) to make it take advantage of the result of his quest (true freedom). Or, after the quest got achieved (? => PK), the hero has to flee (from Portgas D. Rouge/Ace, from his crew, from life) because he angered the world (marines, illness, public execution (+ Squardo)).It's not just I think he'd die in the end, but I kinda hope for it, and not because I have something against him ((like if I can) I'll be a(n) madman, a$$hole, fool ... then) it just for the simple meaning of the word epic ... Glorious, there will no more adventures he can get himself involved in, although the simple fact of changing the world along with his father and Ace maybe Shanks too if he remains alive and others (after knowing what happened during the Void century), Ok, this sounds good but what's he gonna do after settling all these matters?? getting married and raise his kids??
