Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

If he was that strong then he wouldn't afraid of whitebeard and he would have went to do 1 vs 1 but you could clearly see the sweat face like here is the thing when you are really strong and you see someone else strong you do not sweat because you are confident when you start pulling face expressions with a tone of sweat it means you acknownledge the other guy as been stronger than you otherwise there is seriously no need to worry at all.

Yes he hit marco but didn't do much damage he just knocked him out also i never understood why marco couldn't avoid him despite been a bird mode he should have the flight advantage
Then again this is the same stupid logic to why someone sees a boulder coming and desides instead of going to the sides to avoid it he goes head on.

Roger respected the guy sure like luffy respects lots of dudes who are a lot weaker than him so i wouldn't count rogers respect as a measurement of garps strength at all.

I still remember that scene where he told garp to take care of his unborned child and when garp was like: " i am a marine what you ask is difficult to be done"
The dude gave garp such a stare that garp expression was : "ok i am about to get my ass kicked"

Again i think the whole garp been equal to roger because they fought it is a story probably been spread by the goverment who tried to manipulate the events that happened and rised garp's name as a hero to probably make other pirates afraid of him because imagine if you were some pirate and you hear you are face a hero marine you faced the pirate who was been named as the strongest i don't know about you but i would definetely run for my life.

Besides we already see the world goverment doing a ton of things like this if they can change or remove history i bet they can also make history as well.

It is so easy you just put someone like morgans in a big fight and if the marines win that fight you just make an article about those specific marines driving the forces of evil away and here you are some self made heroes.

Garp hype is fake until there will be something that will clearly show that he is not.
Lol, Garp was sweating to face WB??? Garp was not interested in fighting, he was sad that his surrogate child was going to be executed and he had to be there. Why do people make things up that are so obviously wrong like this???

There was 0 threat in Roger asking Garp to take care of his son. Again, we can all see this. He knew Garp would do it because he knew Garp was a good man. What manga are you reading? The "stare" that you saw is literally Roger knowing there was no chance Garp would say no and smiling and laughing as he asked. There was no "stare down" or anything remotely threatening.

Stop trolling.
I asked for proof on panel about sword vs hand and you said Roger vs Garp. What has been shown from their fight on panel? Nothing. You are clearly trolling because you know you have nothing.
You said Cracker vs Luffy. The only time a sword has gone vs a hand in that fight, the sword won. You are trolling again.
You said Whiskey Peak. There is no sword vs hand on panel to see in WP. You are trolling in all examples you listed.
Once again, the most durable body from WSC himself has been cut up like butter by the sword. That has ended sword vs hand discussion but the trolls keep trolling because they cant admit it despite rock hard evidence.
You want a panel of a sword against a fist? One piece chapter 838 Luffy punches through a pretzel sword, Cracker appears and catches Luffy offguard. Luffy still then proceeds to fight a swordsman with fists. Cracker tries to stab Luffy with his sword to his belly (flesh), get roflstomped.

But im sure you will have some ridiculous reason as to why that is so. Because even when faced with evidence, a trolls job is to simply say nu-uh

So simple questions with simple answers.

Who won Luffy (fistman) vs Cracker (swordsman)?
Did Garp (fistman) get his hands chopped off fighting against Roger (swordsman)?
Did Luffy lose any limbs when fighting anyone with a sword?
Did Akainu (fistman) think oh shit a swordsman when Shanks appeared?

Where in Odas name has it ever been confirmed or even suggested that Kaido has the most durable body? Can you chill with making stuff up?

And again, you resort to trolling...
Luffy didnt punch through a sword, Luffy punched through a biscuit in a shape of a sword. That isnt an actual sword.
Luffy proceeds to fight biscuits, not a sword. Stop trolling and pay attention to what is actually happening.
Hands are not a belly and neither belly is immune to a slash. Hilarious, calling me a troll while you troll...

Simple counter for those questions:
Was a hand superior to a sword? No.
Does Garp have on panel combat feats against a swordsman? No.
Did Luffy fight anyone who actually relies on fighting with his sword? No.
Akainu is not helping your case. He is a producer logia who uses DF element to keep himself safe from a sword.

Where did Oda mention that Kaido's body is the most durable? If you are asking that question you clearly arent reading One Piece,
In the end, 22 years of fight history and countless matches and not a single example to prove me wrong. All you can do is troll...

Then how did the fist win? Did the sword forget to cut like in birdcage?

Does Garp have on panel combat feats against a swordsman? No.
Does the manga tell us he has fought equally with Roger? Yes.

Did you use Kaido who does not have on panel feats to showcase his most durable body to try and argue your point? Yes.

Did Luffy fight anyone who actually relies on fighting with his sword? No.
Cracker
Zoro

We have reached the excuse stage. If a sword can't harm something, its because that thing can protect itself against swords... Go figure.

If there was a panel of a dismembered fist vs a sword, you'd say the fist required Haki to protect itself from the sword.

It never ends. Meh.

The fist never won. Cracker did all the job himself.
Does the manga tell us he has fought equally with Roger? Yes.
Did you use Kaido who does not have on panel feats to showcase his most durable body to try and argue your point? Yes.
Afaik, no, it does not. Not a single instance which says that they fought equally.
Manga has cemented Kaido's body as the most durable several times. You should pay attention when you read.
Cracker
Zoro
Cracker doesnt rely on his sword, he relies on his biscuits. Nice try tho.
Sure, he fought Zoro and you have nothing on panel how a hand deals with a sword. Thanks for helping my point.

Just because you dont understand how combat works doesnt mean I am making excuses.
Akainu can inflate his body and produce magma medium which he puts between himself and the sword.
It serves the exact same function as wielding a weapon. I didnt expect you to understand so now I explained.
Luffy isnt capable of doing what Akainu or other producer logias and Paramecias can, neither can Garp.
22 years and nothing to help the fist. All you got is off-paneled hype...
Maybe, eventually, they will learn some technique to allow them to stand a chance against a sword but they sure as hell didnt have anything so far.

Whiskey Peak is a bad example.

Luffy stopped Zoro's katana with his damn sandals... Lol, can you really take that as any kind of evidence?

Luffy vs Cracker, the time Cracker used haki on his sword he cut Luffy. That other time when he tried cutting Luffy's belly there wasn't any haki... So...

Plus that was Luffy's Tank Man form, which is probably the best defence he got. And even then, very conveniently, Cracker doesn't use black armament...

Can't believe you guys keep arguing with Nik about swords. Just let him be on his own fantasy.

Where do you rank Boa Hancock?
I think she is weaker than Doffy and Jimbei but stronger than Law and Gear 2 Luffy.

She's YC2 maybe low YC1 level I think. She's hard to rank overall but she is a warlord and one of the strongest of them.

So if something happens in the manga that you don't like, your just going to disregard it? Be more mad that Zoro was so slow he couldn't get around the sandals....

And the only reason Cracker apparently doesn't count is because it wasn't Zoro fighting Cracker if it was you'd be saying how Zoro defeated an elite swordsman. Your only down playing becuase Luffy defeating a swordsman (a yonko commander level one) your entire arguement implodes on its face. If Pretzel was the deciding factor in that fight it would have been noted. It wasn't because swordbois concept of swords and Oda's are drastically different within the context of the One Piece Universe

Boa Hancock! Great point. I would put her on par with Doflamingo but lower or slightly lower is also acceptable. She's a good example where you put a common enemy for comparison, she'll shine stronger, but on a ladder-like ranking system might not rank as high.

I expect her to be around YC1 with where we're headed in the story. I'll be pleasantly surprised if she's stronger though.

You might wanna look up the definition of the word "mad".

The argument is (was?): there's no way Oda can write a fight between a swordsman and a bare-handed fighter in a way it doesn't feel unrealistic...

Normal sandals in the world of OP isn't something you use to defend yourself against swords. That's just utter nonsense. Unless there's haki involved, which definitely wasn't the case when the fight occurred.

Zoro could cut stone at that time and couldn't cut through some sandals?

And Cracker does count, but as a yet another example of why Oda prefers to let Zoro deal with swordsmen.

Cracker didn't use no black armament against Tankman form. Super convenient...

Because Oda knows the simple truth: haki sword > haki flesh ≈ sword > flesh.

haki sword > haki flesh ≈ sword > flesh.
That's only the case when the swordsman's haki is greater than the others. Zoro himself acknowledged this when he fought Pica.

Luffy's Haki was inferior to Cracker's, which was pointed out, so Luffy was vulnerable to Pretzel. Plot was also on Luffy side, so yes, it was convient that Cracker didn't continue to use Hardening against Luffy, but it doesn't change the fact that one's haki strength determines whether or not a haki infused sword will be effective.

Of course. What I meant was when two opponents have the same level of armament, the one with a sword wins.

...

This is why I love Zoro. Always prepared, always serious (middle panel).

If that's what you think, what would happen in this situational clash

Prime Garp's CoA Haki clad Fist or Cracker's CoA Haki clad sword... what do u think would give way first?

Because if you think Cracker would be able to pierce through Garp's haki you seriously need to reevaluate your powerleveling.

Well, if Garp and Cracker have same level of haki, and Garp's punch and Cracker's sword (sharp end) clash, then doesn't it make all logical sense that Garp's fist will cut?

Case of course is completely on same level of haki. Garp's is likely much stronger and that'll make him victorious.

edit: just noticed that Pea addressed this in his response.

Eh, possibly? But I'm still a bit iffy. I don't think their Haki would just cancel each other out like that. If their hardening is on the same level, they should just probably clash equally because, well, they are the same level of hardness theoretically.

Exactly. There is no proof otherwise.

Hardness = hardness
