Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

@King Moe I personally don't think Killer wasn't at full power because of that.

Maybe because of the weapon he's not very proficient with or the fact that he's not fighting for a right cause so to speak.

But other than that he must have been 100%, I reckon.

Not sure how to properly estimate one's power level in this situation. We'd have to see how Zoro fairs against Page One to make real assessments.

But overall I'd agree that Zoro could have done something more praiseworthy feat-wise.

I still think there is and must be a slight gap in power between Zoro and Sanji, not a huge one though. But logically speaking Sanji should have an upper hand with the suit. Zoro doesn't even have all three of his katanas as of the moment...

Shock you call Zoro 'faint-man'. Seems like it is rubbing off on you more lol.

So? Sanji is the same as well and faint-man hasn't really face anyone high lvl he defeated. So far he face fodder-like opponents and when he face more serious threats, it turn back against him with Fujitora, Hawkins, and now recently Killer who wasn't even 100% as he was mentally fuck in the mind. Right now Kyoshiro is toying with him and not even using Haki to deflect his attacks that faint-man is using right now in his attacks. Nothing has says faint-man is at the top-tier of all especially his lackluster fighting so far in this arc.

Sanji on other hand have been taking more recent threats and hold his own while defeating prominent ones like Page One with ease. Nothing is wasted or wrong with his character as he been treated right on where he is going. Sanji so far been on cloud nine on his achievements a lot more than faint-man as of late and nothing shows he can do much at all.

You mean Killer who still isn't 100% after being mentally fuck up and also K.O. Faint-Man in return as he faint after one hit? If Killer was 100% and wasn't thinking of mess up things that happen to him, doubt it be like that. All Faint-Man did is defeat an handicap opponent who unlike him has an excuse why he went down, but Faint-Man after his durability feats went down in one hit and that's all it wrote.

So right now in true conclusion, Sanji is over Faint-Man until he can defeat someone actually credible and 100% condition, cause right now he shown nothing he is stronger pair nor even the most 'helpful' within this arc in doing work for others and the plan.

Nah, it's more than that. Only you trying to denied it so hard despite how lately Oda present them together. What day one? Sanji has feats in pre-timeskip compare to his post-timeskip. There was even few times Sanji rescue Zoro when he needed it. Nothing shows Zoro was stronger one even to this point on seeing his performance especially in Wano.

1. You can't say same thing about Sanji not being apart of the crew during early time when it was Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and Usopp. Of course Zoro got bounty earlier than him since he was there earlier, not because he did better feats since he wasn't even there.

2. Name don't carried that deep weight enough to give that big raise especially Morgan and Stussy was watching him fight the BMP in person as you saw them especially Morgan taking pictures of it and hearing over information on what he did. Bounty was given for both power than just soley namesake in it.

Again to my answer above, Sanji wasn't apart of the crew in early beginning. By then Zoro got an reputation growing while Sanji was at Baratie. It wasn't because they were at early together and competing, just Zoro was lucky he was around early to do stuff before Sanji to get his bounty faster than him. Even then it was apparent on them being equals when he joins and their actions while facing opponents who are equal to each other on opposite side too.

Nothing even in NW put Zoro stronger neither especially looking at Wano side, his performance has been very subpar on the lower lvls. His durability take an huge hit as it's not longer the same unlike Sanji who capable of easily defeating an T6H without trouble himself. So until more feats are shown, Sanji looks to be stronger one within duo. Though end of the day, Oda put them rivals no matter what which is apparent in the series in this point. Denying it will just disappoint you since Oda don't follow your style, he follows his own.
It just that bro nothing else zoro pre time skip>Sanji let’s not get into that. Post time skip zoro Feats till carries over sanji feats Sanji is shown to be a rescuer this post timeskip zoro has fought stronger opponent sanji strongest opponent is DD while zoro is Fujitora fuji>DD and zoro perform
Better than sanji did. Being rivals doesn’t mean their a equal in strength.

1. What are u talking about? sanji join 2 arcs later after zoro and zoro didn’t have a bounty till alabasta which sanji was there ur didnt receive a bounty so that irrelevant.

2. Sanji didn’t do much of fighting again the only impressive feat was dodging Katakuri bean feat other than that all he did was speed blitz oven which he ate that attack and was easily stop by daifuku. Secondly the family name does hold up without it his bounty would be still below zoro notice that his bounty is higher just by 10k just slightly and his family name did help it. Plus I never said that that was the only reason his bounty was higher.

Sorry plz give me some sanji opponents who were equal to zoro’s cuz that is clearly false.

Sanji needed a suit to boost his power to consider to be on “par” with zoro. 2. Where ur proof that page one>killer? And I know what ur going to say “killer wasn’t in right state “ killer laughing a lot didn’t affect his fighting ability the only thing U can say that he just didn’t have his weapons zoro was protecting 2 females while getting distract by the other swordsman “can’t remember his name” and till won so yes zoro was handicap

He kinda was as why would you be 100% in a fight when your crew and especially your captain is suffering especially he is force to smile due to an Smile. You wouldn't be 100% mentally with all that fuck-up issue on your person. Doubt weapons were an issue as seems to be same type of weapons he usually fight with, but of course mind-set can affect his fighting style though.

So far looking at his performance, Idk if it be simple for him to handle an T6H that easily as with his past fights so far and latest with Kyoshiro, he is not giving much hype thinking he can overcome greater threats as some want to believe. He needs to train himself just like the others so be prepare for the Fire Festival to be able to continue onward with them in the end.

Not really. Have you seen Zoro's performance with serious fighters especially within Wano? He isn't in good favors still as look how Kyoshiro treating him? Not even trying him, so right now, nothing shows Zoro is stronger than Sanji. He fought only fodder-like opponents compare to Sanji who take more serious threats. His record with serious opponents has not been stellar as he got trouced by Fujitora, Hawkins 'literally' nailed him down, Killer while he did defeat him, it took his limit as he soon went down afterwards, making it an tie in result, and now Kyoshiro is toying with him without even using Haki unlike Zoro using against him.

Sanji has hold his own and take on many opponents and defeated his fair share of opponents. Lastly he defeated PO who is an credible threat and big feat for him. Sanji does rescues, but he also defend and hold his own with opponents in the end too. Those are still feats on him regardless. Trying to ignore that is not right at all, man.

1. It's build up to it. You do know Zoro's reputation was growing before Sanji came along. That's the reason why he got an bounty earlier. It's common sense while Sanji have been Batarie. You can't compare that at all really. Bounties are given as your reputation grow from past exploits. It made sense why Sanji didn't get much yet as he still growing his as time goes on after all. Doesn't take anything away at all.

2. Those are feats still man as you dodge an attack from someone who can see in the future and top tier fighter like Oven easily sending him flying. Sanji was never stop by Daifuku? What you talking about? He hold his own with him. Even in second encounter it shown him holding his Genie off more who the former double in size and yet couldn't push away Sanji despite his size. Nothing says Sanji's strength has been lacking. Your reaching too much on that.

No, it was more than just name he got the bounty. You ignore what I said about Morgan and Stussy watching and seeing him fight off BMP and hearing more exploits he has done through communication among BMP. They take it not just name, but strength value too. Name alone wouldn't give that big increase over like that at all. Still bigger than Zoro and your countering your own argument by saying it doesn't matter by small difference when bounties between them prior was always close up with each other regardless. Again, it doesn't discredit Sanji on what he can do and what he can bring in a fight.

Talking about opponents that they defeated who were equal to each other. Like Bon Clay and Daz Bones, Jabra and Kaku, etc.. They have opponents who have similar relationship as them and fight as equals same way and thus enforce more than are equal standing more as time goes on. Idk why your denying this hard when it's canon fact here.

No, Sanji can handle his fighting without RS as proven, but lately Zoro need to do a lot to be on his standing especially his durability lacking and looks like he need 3 swords to go all out on even handicap characters like Killer in his state. RS is more disguise, not power. If it was, he would have use it for many instances, but doesn't even in last chapter he is not using it. Never was meant for power boost, just for espionage type of ideal.

That's not first time he fought multiple people and still win fights without fainting. No excuse and yeah, Killer is handicap as he isn't fighting as himself with all those problems on his mind. Idk why you think he was 100% when he truly wasn't with situation him and his crew is in. Zoro has Haki, he can do a lot of things to protect himself, but yet got taken down and soon fainted afterwards and before you said it because 'There was no threat'. The weapons guy was still there. Fainting when another enemy is around especially the one who stole your sword is there, is no excuse. Nothing inserts Zoro can fight harder or stronger. His performance this arc so far has been very lackluster compare to Sanji who is doing more work than him and at least took down an threat who was 100% compare to who he taken down.

Laxus, I respect how you feel, but your not changing my mind nor trying to dismiss things to favor Zoro more when clearly he hasn't have the best time in this arc in fight-wise to say he can handle 'top-tier' easily when he clearly can't.

Really? Yeah he did. Kyoshiro isn't even using Haki and yet Zoro trying so hard. So which is why I can't get behind Zoro in hyping him up right now after latest stuff like these. Once he trains like the others, then we can see more on how he plans on improving himself.

Are you trying to downplay Kyoshiro's strength? Squinty is the boss of the Yakuza. Previous Yakuza boss Hyo was a freaking powerful guy. You don't get there without crazy combat abilities.
I'll say he's at the level of other powerful Samurai like Inu, Neko, and Ashura Douji who are either equal or stronger than Jack (YC level).

A piece of advice bud. Don't judge the state of mind of smile-prone characters like Squinty. He could be backed in a corner and still have an annoying grin on his face.
The likes of Ichimaru Gin from Bleach are no better.

Where? I am looking the scene, I can't see clearly of him using harden blades, but doesn't look to be. Though it's not changing the fact he effortless playing around with Zoro looking how he is deflecting his attacks easily.

Nah, I am actually hyping his power up as how easily he is handling Zoro more. Where you get the idea I am not taking him seriously?

Here is mine piece of advice, read before you post as you again misunderstand my post for something else. I am aware how strong he is, but just saying how easily he was handling Zoro was all as never seen many do that to him (Well this arc Zoro been handle hard lately from fight after fight).

Discussing Sanji's and Zoro's power level is ridiculous, imo, as Sanji has nothing in his offense to come even close.

Zoro without full power sliced a mountain high stone golem... What has Sanji that is destructive 10% of that?
Then, the biggest difference of all - the lethality of their attacks. Sword vs a leg. 1 slice takes an enemy out vs countless kicks needed.
When it comes to movement speed, Sanji is clearly better but when paired against Zoro it doesnt matter at all since Zoro is standing still.
When it comes to attacking speed(frequency), Zoro is undoubtedly better.
When it comes to dodging and evading, they are comparable and by feats, Zoro is better.
Endurance? Zoro clearly better. Durability? Zoro, clearly better.

The only factor that Sanji has going for him is the invisibility from the Raid Suit but we still have to see how people will deal against that. I seriously doubt that he will keep on cheap shotting people for the rest of his battles.

Hmm, my take on Zoro and Killer is a little different.

Killer landed a significant blow because someone intervened. This was more or less a free hit.

Due to that intervention, Killer's blade was stuck in Zoro, allowing Zoro to land a winning blow. This was more or less a free hit.

The battle doesn't show how skilled they are as fighters due to 'plot' bringing and some random variable. Due to interference, each landed a hit they wouldn't have earned if it was still Zoro vs Killer. The difference is Zoro could take the blow and still win after, so it's the more impressive feat.

He is still fighting Drake without it, so never was RS something he need for power. We been through the talk a lot of how Sanji use it. He can't be afraid to fight someone without it as that's not his personality. He is strong with or without it as end of the day his abilities are more his compare to the RS.

Heavily agree with everything you wrote.

Except why would you call Zoro's muscle grab a free hit? That was the result of Zoro taking the distracted hit. He tensed up so much killer couldn't pull his scythe back, then Zoro uses oni Giri.

I totally agree with everything else though.

@nik78
Zoro & Sanji pre TS, aren't that far apart in PL, skills, or ability. It's a small gap that separates them, aside from Zoro high endurance & stamina. I use to view it as who could harm or give Luffy a challenge..Sanji's pre TS wasnt harming Luffy w/O DJ, & Luffy has faced much worst. So yea Zoro, as shown with OZ, was just a tad bit stronger and closer to Luffy.

Sanji has good CoO & low CoA, high agility, can sky walk, & run underwater. Sadly he lacks a lot of power with his attacks, destructive ability & wide area coverage.

Zoro has good CoA & low CoO, dishes out Exteme damage, high destructive attacks, wide range attacks & range. High endurance.

They each have their strentghts and weaknesses. But Sanji isnt shown to possess the ability to defeat the same opponents Zoro goes up against. While Zoro
Does.

As for currently..I think its sad that Sanji needs his RS to raise his battle prowness to even be comparable to the lv of the SN

Got disagree with you here. It doesn't matter if Zoro face off with two opponents or more, he done this stuff before and to get hurt like that especially when he has 'HAKI', does not excuse it one bit. Maybe we are understanding how he got damage with Killer, but he wasn't 100% in the fight due to how messed up he was, so that damage Zoro still on how much it takes. Look at the spoilers as he still doing nothing to Kyoshiro and now getting tired despite they didn't clash that long. Obviously he no longer what he used to be like in pre-timeskip who can go for long hours in a fight. Why you think Zoro said it was his fault on why he fainted early? It's shows that he has much to learn and going to need it days away when they go to Fire Festival later on about it.

As for them both, it's still equal around between them from pre-timeskip to post-timeskip especially lately Sanji got better showing on his abilities with defeat of an 100% T6H, so right now it seems it's other way around on who showing more prominence in this arc. It's still back and forth on showing better feats all around as Oda continue with their rivalry with latest of chapters.

As for Sanji and Zoro comparison, nah not really as Zoro attack got easily block Kyoshiro and he has yet to defeat an serious opponent for prominent in NW especially in this arc. It can still go either way, but Sanji has shown to have handle and got power to hold his own with others and defeated his own serious opponents like PO for example.

Nothing proves Sanji can't handle the ones Zoro take on and nothing prove Zoro can handle the ones with Sanji take on at all. If anything Sanji kinda had more serious opponents than Zoro over NW saga, so can't say Zoro would have fare better or do what he can against them either.

RS again isn't an support for lacking power, Idk why you want to enforce that when Sanji is now fighting Drake X and haven't even tired and just handle an huge tail slam to his body from spoilers, but get back up like nothing. Think your overly underestimate Sanji on his capabilities while thinking RS is his only source of power when end of the day it can only give him invisibility as his best feature, not elemental like Reiju and two brothers with their poison, light, electricity, and Yonji with strength enhancement. If Oda wanted to insert it gives him power, he would have said it in speech why he wanted to use it for power, but instead for disguise and espionage tactics. Invisibility, while interesting factor, doesn't add to his own power and won't last long with he face an COO user or someone able to smell his presence.

Plus not really something he like fighting with as he stated many times about. He wants fight for himself, not as Germa. Probably why Franky and Usopp will modify it, but even then he still fights without it and can handle without in an battle so far in these past chapters. It's not really bad as you think as your thinking like he is unable to fight again or defeat someone without RS, when reality it never was about it has great power factor if you look into it.

Sanji has proven he has come close, if not better than Zoro lately especially this arc. Where your getting with that?

1. Cutting and breaking stone is easily though. We never seen Sanji's 100% of power in an fight so far, so hard to say, but do know attacks he use in pre-timeskip that are capable of destroying an huge chuck of that especially if he combines with his COA and DJ too.

2. Where is that logic? Sanji has kick people to the point it knocks them out before and it took one kick. Zoro even struggle lately to fully knock out credible character even with an slice unless they are fodder. Latest chapter is not helping showcase that with Kyoshiro looking from it.

3. Sanji speed would damage Zoro too badly as shown he no longer has durability or stamina he once have in pre-timeskip. Comparing it after his performance lately is ignoring what he been through in his last fights. At this point, Sanji even has more durability as proven about him pre-timeskip and post-timeskip.

4. Nah, Sanji is able to notice them especially if you use Haki in play, Sanji is overall better using it than him with COO and now COA seems to be as he doesn't seem his power is doing nothing to attacking Kyoshiro right now.

5. LOL XD! After Zoro got nailed hard by actual nails by Hawkins, taking an strike by Killer who was handicap and mentally screw up, and needing Franky helping to tank bullets rather than evade them like Luffy would do. Dodging and Evading take an huge hit this arc, not giving him much credit on that. Your now pushing it too much there, Nik. No hate or anything, but come on, your being biased on thinking Zoro still has high evasion after his recent fights in Wano and even certain fights in NW. Sanji got him on all categories on that especially if we doing an Haki battle, he won't even touch Sanji while Sanji can easily predict his next move and kick him all around everywhere.

6. Yeah...Not buying the man who faints from one-hit as an more durable guy anymore. He lost hype on his durability especially putting it above others. When he redeem himself, we can talk on him on durability. Sanji so far has greater durability especially your reading spoilers, right? Took Drake's Full Zoan Dinosaur Tail Slam and yet got right back up like it was nothing. He isn't even using RS (Though honestly he never had durability problems looking at past fights and also he never once fainted in an fight).

Do disrespect, Nik, but if you want others take you seriously, don't insert Zoro is still better at everything especially this arc has been very lackluster on Zoro's feats and his reputation took an notch on his stats, so we are not looking as same as before especially his pre-timeskip self would have better performance than him over this.

1. Cutting and breaking stone is easily though. We never seen Sanji's 100% of power in an fight so far, so hard to say, but do know attacks he use in pre-timeskip that are capable of destroying an huge chuck of that especially if he combines with his COA and DJ too.
Easy for Sanji to break mountain-sized stone? Since when? When has he done anything remotely close to destroying the entire mountain of stone?

2. Where is that logic? Sanji has kick people to the point it knocks them out before and it took one kick. Zoro even struggle lately to fully knock out credible character even with an slice unless they are fodder. Latest chapter is not helping showcase that with Kyoshiro looking from it.
Who has Sanji taken out with Single kick? If you didnt realize all Zoro's opponents have been taken out with one clean slice, every single one.

Sanji's speed is no problem for Zoro at all since he has been evading light speed attacks which is incomparably faster than Sanji...

4. Nah, Sanji is able to notice them especially if you use Haki in play, Sanji is overall better using it than him with COO and now COA seems to be as he doesn't seem his power is doing nothing to attacking Kyoshiro right now.
Zoro has the highest attack speed in the entire manga shown per panel and nothing even comes close. Sanji never used CoO mid-fight against strong opponent and neither did anyone else, Fujitora and Luffy vs Katakuri aside...

Sanji just got nailed by slow dino form from Drake, no legendary evading speed and no CoO, like I always claimed. On the other hand, Zoro has been dodging light speed attack several times. If Sanji is having problems against slow dino forms imagine his evading problems against hybrid form...

When Sanji takes a scythe through his chest and stands up like it's nothing then your argument would make sense until then no, tail is no sharp object if you didnt notice btw.

You can deny it but Zoro has manga evidence backing up everything that I said while your claims are just headcanon which cannot be backed up with manga panels. If I am wrong, do post them so we all can see them instead that we all call you out on never having evidence to back up anything you say...

Let Fantasy man enjoy his fantasy logic. It's the only thing he can back up.

Zoro still not using 3 sword style - his most comfortable and destructive mode - and someone's already grasping at straws that he's going all out.
Dream on!
What fantasy? Not believing Zoro isn't same as he is as pre-timeskip. Opinion is one thing, but ignoring on what happen to him so far by Oda is just plain denial. Idk what to tell you that the more you guys want to overhype him and underestimate Sanji is backfiring each time. Spoilers already showing difference of how they are fighting. One getting tired quick (Zoro) while the other still fight of no sign of tiring especially who he is facing (Sanji).

Just saying what's true. Fantasy is that trying to deny what's been happening so far on the characters. Zoro defeated people with 1 or 2 swords before in both pre-timeskip and post-timeskip. How many swords he uses doesn't mean anything. Where you get idea he need all 3 swords to defeat he opponent each time?

I hear your take on Zoro and I'm fine with that. But you bringing up an alleged underestimation of Sanji on my part is where you are wrong. (Perhaps you are mixing me in with someone else).

Sanji hasn't done anything wrong or dissatisfying (yet) that would warrant a bashing from my part. Neither has Zoro so stop trying to ignite a never-ending fan war that's gone on too long to not be boring.

Don't know about others but I'm surely not overhyping Zoro. It's just as you say, merely bringing up facts from the Manga.
Or would you go on to deny the fact that Zoro prefers and is more effective with his 3 sword style than 1 or 2?
I know you don't want to give credit to a rival character as you'd do with your favourite character which is why I dislike Fanboyism of any kind.
So much dishonesty for the sake of supporting...

Anyways, it's different strokes for different folks.

Except why would you call Zoro's muscle grab a free hit? That was the result of Zoro taking the distracted hit. He tensed up so much killer couldn't pull his scythe back, then Zoro uses oni Giri.
Fair point. I just called it a free hit to make the two instances somewhat comparable, but you're right Zoro's effort was greater.

I think neither should judged on this fight. I feel Zoro's win here is a portrayal that he will be stronger, much like Luffy > Kidd will be a thing.

Well, you must be fair on this - it is also your opinion that Sanji is equal to or stronger than Zoro as well.

I mean, let's be real here - neither Sanji or Zoro have been tested in a proper fight.

Not move, he moves slow as slug but he evaded attacks at light speed several times.
