Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

I don't know why but I do remember reading in the past about how the Pirate King is the most powerful pirate in the world.
Something about wealth, fame, power. The man who had it all... And then Roger was mentioned.
I still consider him the most powerful though even if you consider it head cannon.

What made you think anyone was arguing about Doffy?
Doffy's name only came up when we (@nik87 especially) were arguing about Luffy and Zoro. How they aren't equals, and rank differently in the power levels.
Like I suspected, you got carried away and now you think Doffy's the focus of the argument.
That is your own headcanon, this has never been EVER said in the manga, databook or anywhere!
You can consider him the most powerful but that is your opinion not a fact, i want us to clarify this before anything else!

Dude you were replying to me about Doffy before you........never mind

Garp was never his equal, his equal was Whitebeard and he was NEVER above him
Wrong! Garp was Roger's equal. How did you miss this?

2 characters do not nearly kill each other in a fight unless they are well matched. Not to mention multiple times!

Pirate King >> WSS in strength. The most powerful man in the word was a Pirate King rival, not Mihawk

Bruh... We know white beard was the strongest man when he was alive, meaning he was stronger than Mihawk. And White beard's equal was pirate king.
Common sense should tell us the pirate king would've been stronger than the WSS, don't you think? Now how is that BS?

Prime Roger & WB were just about equals..no way around it THOUGH roger was the better of the two. Kaidou, Shanks & BM are probably just slightly weaker than them. All with their own unique abilities putting them at the top tier of the manga. Mihawk I suspect to be high Commander lv, low admiral lv.

I feel like Oda missed a big opportunity here.

Oda set up zoro as a wanted fugitive ronin at the beginig of act 1, it could have been the occasion for Oda to show zoro progress and surpass his limits fighting strong samurai one after the other culminating in him defeating a supernova (Killer) and getting with Hyori and Enma.

The way I see it wano first two acts were the perfect opportunity to have zoro be like afrosamurai wearing the no2 headband (here represented by his pride and promise to never lose again until he reaches Mihawk at the top).

Too bad Zoro didn't get that much spotlight in the end and his new power up feels a bit unsatisfying imo (almost as much as Sanji's).

If Oda decided to have zoro fight many of the big name swordsmen of the country it would have been a good way to show him progressing towards his dream and would at the same time make his win against yonko commanders/ him wounding Kaido an easier pill to swallow.

On the other hand after clearly establishing his limits, Oda spent the entire 2nd act slowly powering up luffy in a way that makes sense and even gave him the tools to hurt Kaido.

Having Zoro being on the same level as current luffy would be a dumb move and it would imply that Zoro was stronger than his capitain the whole timeskip which would be really stupid.

Imo Zoro should be really close to yonko commander level but not quite there yet (or at best YC4) the way they are written, the strawhats represent the underdogs Zoro included they cant be OP.

Zoro was never stronger than his captain, official data books have clearly stated this.
We already knew Luffy's limits after he fought commanders, therefore, Zoro's limits should be a little below that, given he has always been close to Luffy.

Enma is the perfect power up. Once he meets a brick wall, Enma can draw out more haki at the expense of his physical body. Maybe that's what might enable him cut Kaido, if at all he would. But, his current strength before Wano should be very close to Yonko commanders, just below Luffy.

In One piece Haki and strenght bloom during harsh battles, which Luffy had plenty of post timeskip Doffy, Cracker and Katakuri improving his stamina, his gear 4th stamina, his observation haki and most recently his Armament.

Zoro on the other hand never broke a sweat and butchered his opponents so he didnt improve much during his battles.

There is a huge gap between Fisher island Luffy and post Udon Luffy's power but there is a very small gap between FI Zoro and Post Udon Zoro.

Now if we follow the rule of "Luffy is always stronger than Zoro" that would mean that Zoro being close to Luffy's current power just by recieving Enma implies that he was stronger than Luffy at the begining of the timeskip.
That or Enma is an OP blade (which would be a cheap power up for someone who values training and takes pride in his hard earned strenght such as Zoro.)

On another note I see Enma more like a power up tool (in the sense that it will help train Zoro's haki ) than a Big power up itself considering that Zoro had the legendary black blade Shusuii already.

Do you think Zoro would have the same issue against Cracker like Luffy had?
The guy who can wreck biscuit doubles easily and doesnt have a G4 time limit?

@afromarco005 Bruh I think you are underestimating Zoro heavily. If he is under the lvl of commanders then who should take on 4 commanders in this arc?
Zoro being stronger than Luffy this whole time in NW aint as ridiculous as it sounds.

That's completely wrong. Luffy being stronger than Zoro was said even before he learnt the flowing haki and the destroying from inside haki. Can you imagine the gap now?

Getting the Enma now is to keep the status quo and get Zoro close to Luffy again.

Enma is not a cheap power up. Not any swordsman can wield it.

Cracker?

You think it's easier to cut something hard than break it?

The red scabbards, the marines/former WBP and Stealth black baby.

Nik let's be honest we both know that Luffy is out of Zoro's league right now.

Thats what I am saying.

Enma is not enough to close the evergrowing gap between Luffy and Zoro and if it does. it would mean that Zoro was stronger than Luffy during the new world saga considering that he didnt level up much post timeskip fighting weak ennemies.

Not at all, you're having it backwards. How could Zoro be stronger during the new world saga when it has already been stated Luffy was stronger? You get the irony in your statement, right?

The gap was getting too big, that's why he had to be given the Enma. It literarily sucks out haki at the detriment of wielder's physical well being; think you're greatly underestimating Enma here.
