Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

That was one attack. Unless you wanna make an argument that Ace could replicate Aokiji's feats

.
I mean... for 1 attack Ace did replicate Aokiji's feats.

No one held back, and Ace was weakened. Aokiji was certainly being serious.

You say it's one clash buts it's litterally the only thing we have to go off of (if we are talking about Ace and Ice vs Fire)

You saying Aokiji would overwhelm Ace easily is baseless as you can clearly see in my post that a weakened Ace was able to clash with a virtually healthy Aokiji with neither gaining the upper hand. If Aokiji could overpower ace like you said... he would have. The manga states differently.

My original point was if they had a fight Aokiji would overwhelm him easy. One attack doesn't mean anything really.

Ace clashed once with Akainu too. Does that mean Ace = Akainu?

No because Akainu easily over powered him... Aokiji clashed with a weakened Ace and it was an even exchanged due to their elements conflicting.

I'm not sure how your not getting it, honestly.

The manga provided all the evidence needed. Akainu had a clear cut elemental superiority over Ace, Aokiji didnt.

So Aokiji = Ace? Is that seriously what you believe?

1 attack
I'm stating he wouldnt get overwhelmed easily like you seem to believe.

I'm not saying he is admiral level, I'm saying Ace's df gives him the chance to compete against a conflicting element.

You said Ace would get overwhelmed easily, but we are provided by the manga with that not being the case.

Whether it was one attack or not. Ace was weakened severely. If there was any moment for Aokiji to "easily overwhlemed" Ace... it was then. It didn't happen.

It was 1 attack. You're making it seem like Ace had a stalemate fight which isn't true.

Aokiji (ice) fought Akainu (magma) for 10 days straight. Ace isn't doing that. Simple. Just beause you have advantage in terms of element doesn't mean much.

It's like a lvl 5 fire type vs a lvl 30 ice type.

Yes, I believe Aokiji overwhelms him easy. One attack isn't changing my opinion given what we know of Aokiji.

All your ending up saying here is that you refuse to believe what the manga provided you. Where is your proof Aokiji easily overwhelms him?

I never said they had a stalemate. I said the panel is PROOF Ace doesn't get easily overwhelmed.

I have my proof. Where is yours? Your ignoring the fact that Ace was in a very weakened condition at the time and still clashed evenly with Aokiji.

Elemental advantage was certainly a factor for Ace and Akainu... you say, "It doesn't mean much?"

And I'm not trying to change your opinion, it's clearly wrong. If you can provide a panel of Aokiji easily overwhelming an element of a complete opposite nature then come back to me.

A weakened Ace should have been a one-shot for Aokiji... but it wasn't. And we clearly see why.

Last post. If Aokiji couldn't 1 shot a weakened Ace... How is he "Easily" overwhelm a fully healthy one?

Either way, I wanna see who else believes Aokiji easily overwhlems Ace.

@mods should make a poll for fun, chpterless weeks need to be filled with more excitement

Aokiji did not take a beating. Both of em were relatively equal.

That's my point. Aokiji would easily overwhelm Ace since he's on a higher level.
I am not wrong here as I never said it was one-sided. If Aokiji did not take a beating, then he wouldn't have lost. Akainu did as well, but he didn't lose.

I still disagree with that. It'd be a tougher fight for Aokiji even though he'd likely win.

Thankfully, this is one fruit vs fruit comparison that we could see play out via Sabo vs Aokiji. Most fights going forward will be match of a combination of haki and devil fruit prowess so it will be more difficult to see what ultimately gave the advantage. However, I feel Sabo should be better at haki than Ace as he relied exclusively on that and so a match between Sabo and Aokiji would be more balanced from that perspective and could reveal elemental advantage of fruits in a better way. That is assuming Sabo has mastered the fruit to the same extend as Ace did. We are now seeing multiple levels of haki and multiple levels of fruits (awakened and all), so who knows.

I agree with you on this.

Ace matched one attack from Aokiji, but we also saw how Ace lasted seconds against Akainu, while Aokiji lasted a week against the same guy. So it's only obvious that while Ace can stop a single long-range attack from Aokiji, he would also only last seconds if Aokiji went for the kill the way Akainu did.

Still, Ace should have been high YC level for Whitebeard's crew to make sense, so it's not like he was weak in any possible way, and he certainly was one of the coolest characters that have ever appeared on this manga.

I wonder if Monet could block one attack from Akainu because of conflicting elements 🧐

Akainu had a 100% killing intent when fighting a weakened ace. He somehow had also the „better“ element (or maybe just more experience and therefore a higher heat) but the specific logia logic is not clear to me (Fire can be superhot, Fire is a burning gas, Magma is a Hot, liquid rock and ice is a cold solidified water, so
Aokiji however didn‘t try to kill Ace, he was not that raged. I would even say that he was cool with just a clash, maybe he also had mixed feelings about the execution.
Imo it‘s Not solid to Use one panel/clash without the context to measure the power

You can't freeze fire. But you can freeze magma. That's why technically Ace should have had an upper hand against Aokiji.

That clash between Aokiji and Ace was DF clash. In terms of DF power, both are equal as shown. Everything else Aokiji is definitely superior.

Akainu steamrolled Ace because of his superiror DF ability.

Akainu and Aokiji is equal in terms of fighting, but Akainu had DF advantage. Explains why he lost.
Why Aokiji didn't get steamrolled like Ace? Because he is more proficient with his fruit, knows how destructive Magma fruit is and used his other skills such as haki to keep up with.

So Ace vs Aokiji: Ace wouldn't get defeated by just DF ability alone. However, I think Ace would get defeated just as easily. Just look at Kaido OHKO Luffy who is YC1 in strenght, while Ace was YC2.

Another example is Ace vs Smoker. Smoker and Ace clash was a stalemate. Does that mean Ace couldn't steamroll Smoker? Definitely he will. Smoker had no haki, while Ace did.

When it comes down to a serious scuffle, Aokiji should have both superior haki and physical ability compared to Ace and he should pretty much mollywop him with no significant troubles in an extended fight.

The fact that Aokiji could grievously scar Akainu even with his disadvantage to heat should point to that being the case.

So yeah, I put him under the Admirals and First Mates. He can do enough to buy some time on short notice, but anything over that is too much.

Ace managed the one encounter with aokiji but soon after that aokiji fought akainu for 10 days. And we know for a fact that akainu's fruit is superior to ace's. Add to that akainu being just generally superior to ace in pretty much everything as far as we know. As in physical capacity and haki... Based on what we know its pretty clear that ace wouldn't last particularly long against aokiji. EVen doflamingo was straight up terrified of aokiji.

We know ace managed to fight jinbe to a stanstill before joining the WB pirates, which is pretty damn significant, but it's really hard to actually gauge how he'd fare against other fighters... We know haki is crucial to be successful at the higher tiers and ace never exactly evidenced it. I am not inclined to thinking jinbe actually was/is at YC3 level, I am more of the idea that he is just below that. He might have a chance against cracker considering his fishman karate though (still far from an easy fight since cracker was competent enough to not get wrecked by gear 4 in close range combat). Ace tied with jinbe but I wouldn't necessarily bet on him against YC3 like cracker, jack or vista.... Or whoever fills that spot for shanks. BB's commanders seem slightly less impressive than those of other yonko so perhaps ace has a chance here though.

Pretty much this. One attack doesn't mean anything.

The Jinbe vs Ace standstill is not too significant. It was before Ace even joined Whitebeard so it's very likely both of them grew stronger since their fight. Or at least, Ace must have. Ace was one of the most relevant of Whitebeard's commanders (not as much as Marco, but he was there there with Jozu, Izo and Vista).

Ace should have been between YC2 and YC3 (he was the 2nd commander but they weren't ranked by strength) and, since most here anyway agree admiral level is very close to Yonko level (talking about individual 1vs1 strength), it's not a stretch to assume Ace was much weaker than Aokiji (which is supported by comparing Ace vs Akainu and Aokiji vs Akainu). Ace had the potential to become a Yonko himself, but he was still far from there.

However, Ace may very well have been as strong as the likes of Cracker and Smoothie or on a similar level. They, too, would have easily died to Akainu.

If I'm being honest, I have no idea where Ace lies in terms of strength.

He's likely in the YC range, but where exactly? Do we think he could take on Jack? Or Cracker easily? Hell, could he beat Dressrosa Luffy or Doflamingo?
