Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

But Marco did make contact with Akainu:

Did he though? The way Katakuri dodged was by a hair's breath making it seem like he was just "logiaing" through the attacks. It could just be the drawing being deceiving just like it could have seemed Whitebeard pierced Aokiji for a second.

I think this point makes complete sense.. Akainu would be aware that both Marco and Vista are haki users and the cut was avoided by making using his logia abilities, or logiaing (like this world) in teh same way as Katakuri did.
I remmeber theorizing that it could be an awakened ability since there were no scars but Akainu clearly suffered from his battle with Aokiji and ended up with scars. So that was indeed a logiaing dodge...

Initially, I had the opinion that haki could be used to "nullify" the haki of others. Basically, if you have comparable haki, you could basically keep using your DF abilities as you see fit. That's the only way that scene with Akainu, Marco, and Vista would make sense. However, that definitely does not appear to be the case seeing as how Luffy was able to still hit Katakuri fairly early on in the fight when Luffy's haki should not have been comparable to his.

So, with that said, I would chalk that up to be a one-time occurrence. I think all top tier Logia users are going to be shown using Katakuri's method of fighting. Using CoO to morph around attacks.

Not sure that’s it
Aokiji did something similar with whitebeard , not sure his haki surpasses whitebeard maybe whitebeard was weakened and that but who knows

I suppose Aokiji may have done the same thing.

Maybe they know a way to preserve their Logia abilities against Haki to an extend.

Hm I always assumed Akainu just tanked their attacks since he's just that much stronger than them e.g. like if Luffy took a haki clad punch but kept fighting. But could definitely be the logiating.

but we can have an argument that due to teh nature of Aokiji's DF ability, logiaing will eventually affect him?

i don;'t think who's who got low diffed by jinbei. He was forced to use an "ultimate fishman karate" techique and looked to be atleast mid-high in terms of the damage he suffered. Not sure you can call being forced to use a named attack and taken damage as low dif. It's surely atleast high dif. The only time i would consider it low diffing if is it 1 shots the opponent. Like big mom low-mid ulti when she used that named attack on her and kinda one shot her. Since it wasn't really a true one shot i'm not sure you could give it entirely low dif. But a yonko being forced to use multiple named attacks is probably mid dif universe wise.
Naw, look at the damage those attacks did when introduced. Jinbei should have taken waaaay more damage in my opinion. All he got was a few bite marks. Not even expecting them to be major scars after this except for the one. He did great

Jinbei pretty much handily won against who’s who , fight wasn’t competitive , the closest is barely mid difficulty but he handled who’s who cleanly from start to finish

idk, but using your ultimate techique seems like a compeitive fight. Jinbei just doesn't fire this off vs anyone he didn't even fire it off vs BM. I could understand if it was in charatcher for jinbei to just spam his strongest attacks. But it isn't also wasting that much energy seems bad in a long war if it wasn;t nessicary. It's atleast mid dif.

Looking back... whos whos being a mid difficulty opponent for jinbe seems like a stretch. The guy broke his fingers when using shigan against jinbe. That's pretty definitive regarding how difficult this fight was for jinbe. Whos whos wasn't foderized but he was at the most low difficulty opponent. Overall the issue is that the topo robi are ultimately about as weak as they look.

idk, how you want to analysis the fight. But this is the first time we've seen jinbei use a few techiques in this fight such as fully blackening his body and using a said ultimate techique. He also gets injured. I think the fight was just protrayed too fast for it to be fully developed properly. But i just cannot see how this is a low dif fight when Jinbei was forced to use so much. if it was truly a low dif fight, jinbei wouldn't of needed to fully blacken his body to not take the damage.

Like to me a med dif fight as a clear winner and a the winner is clearly more powerful. A high dif fight could go either way and a low dif fight the person is clearly much stronger then the opponent. Jinbei while he was stronger then WW, But he had to put in effort to not take damage and launch powerful attacks to know his opponent out.

Also is losing to the strawhats this late in the story that big of a deal? Like how long till the strawhats are viewed as empire/pirate king tier as a 10~ man crew. Like honestly the strawhats at this point are pretty strong opponents. Getting L's to any strawhat atm just seems like it's not terrible

Still don’t think oden gets his due
Cause kaido still laments about his strength and sees oden as a great person in the shanks/roger/rocks and Wb

the kaido oden fought was likely atleast weaker then curent yonko kaido. so it's just hard to determine oden's power level. Like he "beat" younger non yonko kaido, so kaido was probably weaker then pre awakened CoC luffy or equal to that luffy. Who in return got virtually 1 shot by kaido

Eh, it's hard Oden dues when we don't have a real idea of where he and Kaido scaled all those years ago. Not saying he's not strong or a legend, but we just need a reference.

I tend to put them around Katakuri or, now, Yamato's level of power as that's plenty strong, but still leaves room for major growth.

To that you add the simple fact that kaido didn't even get to go all out against oden. Back then we saw oden managed to get the jump on him an land a pretty strong blow... But kaido in the end didn't even transform into his hybrid form. It's hard to judge where kaido was in strength back then but the implication appears to be that even then he already had the invulnerability thing going on. And oden was IMO almost definitely well above a modern YC1 given his overall role in WB's crew. He was already extremely strong when he left wano and returned even stronger. To me it looked like kaido was closer to yonko back then than he was to YC1.

I feel like that was more of the fact Oda wanted to save his hybrid form as a surprise

I think things made me know he’s different gravy
Kaido still considers more poweful than the 9 scabbards combined
He still considers the supernovas somewhat irritants despite being strong , they ganged up on him but he beat them multiple times
Where he classes oden as a fighter and pirate is been telling

he perceives oden to be more on the level of a yonkou/PK than a YC1

The scabbards as a group are monstrous this as after they got the double suulong mink dukes who are far more powerful than jack YC3

people consider xebec a monster even tho : he faced a much younger garp and roger
The wb big mum kaido and co were much much younger wnd not close to their prime
So while poweful the case can be made that a lot of the figures weren’t close to their full strength yet folks still consider him hella strong
I do think kaido might have gotten a bit stronger since then but I think it’s more he was close to maxing out at that time ( like already 95%)
Cause it’s not like he was a young spunky pirate when he fought , he was a deeply experienced and long fighting pirate , he had 20 year plus skin in the game , like late 30s , that’s proper prime for most pirates and fighters in one piece

Jimbei vs WW, was somewhat refreshing to see an actual battle lay out. We havent seen a whole 1v1 fight that takes its time (although I feel it was rushed). in a while.
Nonetheless, it was boring and uneventful. WW showed promise and maybe Jimbei is just that strong but still was expecting more from the F6 altogether. The SHs shouldnt cost by and defeat them easily since they are Yonko level pirate crew executives. Even CP9 put up a more fierce battle than F6. Actually I dont think any match up has been as great since Enies Lobby.
I am also hoping for a round 2 where they show their Awakened forms if possible. Almost 500 chapters later since ID jailers introduced Awakened Zoans and we havent seen them yet. So Kaidos crew SHOULD have Awakened Zoans, if not then Oda just threw away good writing.

Roger was at his strongest point in his journey when he fought and defetaed the Rocks Pirates.
