Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

Kaido definetly respects Oden's strength especially among Samurai. So say we agree to have them on equal standing 20 years ago.

Sword God ryuma is sort of portrayed as tier above oden. So if oden was yonko tier, ryuma would be in his own tier above yonko!

Talking about Ryuma, I read it back in the Wiki and find something quite funny, don't know if someone mention it before

Ryuma, having heard the reputation of "King", hoped to one day fight against him. He believed that this King must hold a great "Warrior's Soul" and would make a worthy adversary.[23] The irony however, is that he himself was "King"; because the name, "King", was given to him by the people he saved, he unfortunately did not know it himself

It's funny that Zoro, who seem to be Ryuma's heir, has King as opponent :D Nice work from Oda !

It might be a little wink to us from Oda, but it needs to be mentioned that this story is from the manga "Monsters" from 1994, and thus not directly related to OP. And certainly not canon.

Don't expect it to happen given Zoro is fighting king, on time limit with injury, and SH don't kill anyone... But would be super pumped if he ended up cutting kaido like Ryuma cut a dragon.

Only idea I can think of where it would happen is if sanji and Zoro win, then both go up and help. But they should both be in recovery mode after their current fight.

There is a time limit but he doesn’t appear to be injured tho

Personally, I imagine the medicine will crap out as soon as Zoro wins. Aside from the potential cool looking post victory spread, the ticking clock element can add more tension to the fight.

2 BM SG can fight for hours,,
How long Zoro can fight if YC can fight for long time?
To be note Zoro m Sanji never fight YC, 1st time Luffy clash with the weakest not that easy

Malarky.
Zoro is just going to learn to cut.. medicinal side effects! Then he'll be fine.

I'd be really surprised if either could help. Think of how worn out Luffy was after his first battle against a Yonko Commander. They should be in a similar situation. Zoro should be probably out for the count, but Sanji should probably be more on damage control.

And Yonkou can potentially fight for days, yet Kaido is going to go down in under an hour or two.

Oda off screened those gaps in time for a reason. Strawhat fights do not last long because that's just not feasible for a "real time" narrative. And aside from Zoro's personal ticking clock, we have the floating island that's going to reach the mainland in 15 minutes or so. I highly doubt the their fights will be going on still by that time. And if they are, I don't see them continuing for long after the drop.

The CP-0 implied the Commanders fight may end after the Emperors

Has there been any concept of how much time has passed since the raid started?
Yonko can fight for days but Kaido himself has taken an enormous amount of damage. Multiple stabs, hits, gamma knife.. He's taken on the attack the almost killed Doflamingo from Law, and taken COC imbued blows from Luffy, smashing from Kidd, stabbing from the 9RS, even had his own attacks reversed on himself (Raizo) and is still up and about.

If he had a hit-points gauge, I'd really have to wonder where it is right now. Luffy still seems to think he's going to go up there and win, so maybe the battle on the roof before Luffy got knocked down was closer than we think.

Aside from a select few, I can't imagine most folks would be happy seeing Kaido fall before his Commanders. Plus, that just tosses any sense of escalation out the window.

I'm not sure, but someone could probably create a time-line. It can't have been too long.

He's been consistently taking damage, but the way it's been implied, it's been purely superficial until 1010. So there's no telling how it's going to calculated in the end.

Oda's made it vague enough to barely justify Kaido's eventual defeat. Personally, I do not see the Scabbards efforts being super significant, but Oda could later reveal that they did like 30% of the work.

there is no tension. the moment that all of his injuries were invalidated, he won (his offense is enough to OHKO just about anyone in the manga).

now-

if he was just given splints and painkillers. that would've been interesting/ full of tension (think drunkenfist lee versus kimimaro).

Personally I thought it was dumb how Oda introduced the time it took to fight a YC level opponent. It took Luffy around 11 hours to fight Cracker and Kata. Most of the fight was off screened with Cracker's being disappointing, we didn't see how him put up much a fight to only be defeated after one clean hit.
Then you expect us to believe Luffy 1v1 Kata for 9-11 hours straight.
That was poor, lazy writing from Oda.
Aokiji vs AKainu fought 10 days, Roger vs WB crews 3 days, Jack vs Minks 5 days, this all sounds badass, but not when 90 % of the fight is off screened. Of course I understand we cant see the whole fight but it'd be nice if we got to see at least 50-75 %.

Which brings me to my point, Luffy vs Kaido, Sanji vs Queen, Zolo vs King, we've established that to fight a YC level opponent and above it takes several hours. Is that what we will see from these 3 fights? Do we want that continue on for hours and maybe days to defeat these villains? If so how would that look for the floating island.

Well, for Zoan their durability more crap than BM commander then,,
Kaido keep fight non stop, althought i dont think Kaido will down in just couple hours, for island drop maybe Momo will drop it slowly, its already in midle in Wano how do expect that flying island destiny?

Alliance will save the capital, but will loose the battle
Personally, I think that the main fighters will show their Zoan awakenings, and that will be what puts the end to all of their fights
At the very least, King must have it, so should Queen, otherwise he wouldn't put such crap on King
Maybe even some Tobi Roppo's, as Who's Who, other wise I fail to see how he could have been confident in beating All Star

Them fighting for hours is not meant to be taking literal as every second that passed they were in battle.

We saw Luffy running away from Katakuri through the mirror; We saw the SHP sailing around for hours on the run from BMP waiting for Sanji to bake a Cake.

I don’t believe it’s a law that these fights have to last so long. But if they do you just have to suspend your belief that a lot of evasion of their opponent is going on;

I would very much like that, but knowing Oda, it wont happen.
Oda doesn't add that type of suspension.
I would prefer that the Samurai alliance to lose to the Beasts Pirates. The Yonko crew have been hyped up to the max, look it took 100,000 elite marines and admirals to defeat the WB pirates. Oda portrayed the Yonko to be invincible, so it disappoints me on how easy it has been to take down most of the main fighters.. It would be more believeable if Oda made the alliance lose and retreat to fight another day. But that wont happened.

Also...

Jack and Perospero...... disappointing.

So if Perospero who already has a higher bounty than former commander Snack, is supposed to be comparable to Jack, does that just make him close to Cracker or does it bump up Big Mom's top three eg Cracker = Queen instead of Jack and so on? This could balance the crews if Yamato is supposed to be above Katakuri and King even though she didn't join her dad's crew as planned.

Where does Compote stand? She was portrayed as similar to Perospero as she's the oldest daughter and 2nd child AND one of Big Mom's prominent 'monsters'.
