Ground Rules for the Power Level Discussion Thread

As always, please follow the guidelines set by the Forum Rules that apply across the board.

It's important that discussions from a current chapter are spoiler tagged until 24h have passed from an english release.

  • For the sake of constructive discussion, where and when possible please quote/ source any information you provide. Particularly when it comes to conversations carried over from other threads.
  • Avoid passive agressive posts, sly remarks or baiting/trolling. You can certainly have fun or disagree without it being at someone's expense.
  • Only use anime examples that are canon and as means to provide clarity to pages in the manga. Any other anime material is otherwise non-canon and should only be referenced if it can be proved that the mangaka had approved it.
  • We will strive to avoid repetitive discussions and any extensive battle topics will be guided to the Davy Back fight to existing threads or new ones can be made there.

As of now these topics are shelved due to repetitiveness or until the manga can present us with material to further discussions:

  1. Shanks v Mihawk
  2. Hand to hand fighters > Swordsmen
  3. Zoro > Luffy
  4. Zoro v Sanji
  5. Is Smoker a top 30 character?
  6. Mihawk's rank within the story
  7. Law having CoC currently.
  8. Katakuri > Kaido/Luffy/Etc.

If you wish to continue any of these discussion and remove it from the list, you will need to provide manga material as proof. If there's also anything you think we've covered numerous times, let me know and I'll update the list.

This is the only warning there'll be regarding these ground rules, anything no adhering will be removed. So please just check your posts before posting them.

Killer didn't get the same hype tho? If we look at entire rooftop standalone, it was Luffy and Zoro who appeared the most impressive.
Killer managed to damage Kaido through a specific technique, but basically was hit only once by BM. He didn't take an advanced conqueror's attack IIRC.

Anyway, Killer is massively underrated by the community. He is at least Queen/Smoothie level IMO

Like I said, I can even agree that the "one shot" itself was an outlier.
But the portrayal/narrative is still there. The narrative was that pre Udon Luffy is an insect to Kaido, while rooftop Luffy could at least give Kaido a low diff. The growth/power-creep was so high that Kaido himself wondered "what changed since then"

Rooftop Luffy is going to mid-high diff pre Udon Luffy, even if we ignore the one shot as outlier and think only based on the powerups itself that Luffy got.

What?

Current fresh Zoro will mid-high diff King.
They are clearly not in same tier.

Shiryuu pre DF was equal to Magellan. And Magellan was someone who had monstrous portrayal in ID, with all prisoners (including Jinbe and Crocodile) collectively running from him, low diff'd Ivankov.

Marco got feats against Kizaru, an admiral. Was seen as a potential Yonko candidate by Gorosei.
Marco fought BM for almost the same duration of scabbards vs Kaido (it was mostly offscreen), had BM admit that she would need to put actual effort to deal with him and can't afford to waste energy/souls on him.
He then went onto spend energy healing the entire floor, and then was on offensive against both King and Queen in the duration of rooftop fight.

To suggest these guys are in same tier as Katakuri......what is this?
Current Sanji honestly beats Katakuri, forget Zoro.

What we are arguing is that King can choose to not turn off his flames.
Then what? From what we have seen so far, King has showed zero strain in maintaining his flame on mode. In fact, that is his default mode even when he's passively standing. Nothing yet suggests that there is some time limit here, but things can change in the future.

And even flame off King was able to clash with rooftop Zoro, and face tanked couple of named attacks from KoH advanced conqueror's Zoro. He is still an ancient dinosaur Zoan.
Even flame off King will need considerable effort from Katakuri to put down, while his mode gives King speed that goes "invisible" from Zoro's eyes.

Honestly, the only way this can even become a debate is if Katakuri's power level gets a Crocodile style retcon. That is how outdated his feats are.....

I still haven't seen a solid argument in this topic from Katakuri side, other than "he is a YC1 too"
When some of the "YC1" guys are demonstrably in other tiers all together.

I simply can't imagine someone of pre Udon Luffy tier vs King being debatable, given how King was basically mid-high diffing rooftop Zoro.
I did put YC1 around the same tier tbh. Or should I say First mates? Anyway, I think I am wrong in this regard. I have never thought of comparing every single first mates.

Also, I am willing to step down from Katakuri Vs King discussion. I don't have better evidence (other than what I have already provided) to disprove why/how Katakuri can win over King.

The Killer point was that he showed better feats against Kaido than pre Udon Luffy. That doesn't put him above pre Udon Luffy. Same for Zoro.

I’m not saying Pica > Kata or Jack.

Just that they have never shown the AP to literally cleave a mountain in half.
I presume any Commander-level character can do something like that.

If you want to scale Katakuri or Jack...

Luffy with Gear 4 split the ground in Dressrosa, and Katakuri tanked a few attacks like that.

Despite his Big Father form, Capone called Nekomamushi a "monster", who fought evenly with Jack.

Chinjao is talking about Zoro, not Pica.

I'm sure Zoro could give Chinjao a good fight.

Obviously Zoro couldn't have know he could damage King's defence mode, he was going by prior info that he had on defence/speed mode.
Except Zoro did not damage King in defense mode.

It wasn't clear until now if Zoro final attack defeated King in defense mode or not. But recently chapters have Zoro telling Luffy that they can only hurt the Seraphim in attack mode, despite both having ACoC, which indicates he never hurt King in defense mode.

He used full body haki.

Why is Enma relevant here?
You are comparing Zoro's Haki based on his Enma feats.

Just to add on. Chapter 1035 after Zoro unlocked aCoC "the flames are on....no point attacking now"

This is why I am conflicted with aCoC. Zoro says no point in attacking when the flames are on, but also contradicts by saying King is scared of his attacks as well. Plot hole? Idk

Wano writing is just annoying.

King basically has a bunch of redundant tanking abilities, Ancient Zoans are super durable, can regenerate, and King has a flame force field of sorts. And it wasn't clear what exactly Zoro was talking about.

Killer probably isn't above pre Udon Luffy. But rooftop Zoro 100% is. He's on a different tier in attack power, defence, durability and armament haki. Pre Udon Luffy only has CQC above him, due to FS

This can be easily explained though.

Zoro thought he couldn't damage King based on prior info. Since back then, King couldn't be damaged pre KoH.
When Zoro saw King blocking and avoiding his attacks in defence mode later, he got new info and inferred that King is no longer invulnerable in his defence mode.

Just look at things in sequence. Yeah Oda didn't explain things clearly, it was rushed.

You are comparing Zoro's Haki based on his Enma feats.
Still on Enma SMH.

You do realize that Enma is using only Zoro's haki, right? It isn't a magic machine that generates haki on it's own.
Post Wano and dudes still on about "Enma haki", smh.

Why is blocking and partially detecting hakai also attributed to Enma? He used all 3 swords to create a barrier and block. It's just his armament haki.

It's conflicting, it's poorly written. I interpret it as aCoC finally damaging flames-off, and King just becoming instinctually intimidated by Zoro. Because otherwise it's so contradicting that it makes no sense and everybody is right.

"Enma feats" are literally Zoro's own Haki feats.

Triggered me a bit lol. With the whole ACoC. With a scenario painted a lot more in Katakuri’s favor
I mean, sorry. I acknowledged it's unconfirmed. I guess I should've also mentioned that I don't take it into consideration during hypotheticals because of that.

Either way, I said from the jump that I was arguing for Katakuri's potential performance in the bout. Hell, despite King getting a fair share of arguments, I tossed in other feats of his that I didn't see being brought up to help his case on his performance. So, honestly, I'm a bit bamboozled to how the discussion suddenly became about biases. Especially when it's a discussion on why we think these characters could win against one another. What's the point of debating a versus topic in the power level thread otherwise if all we just chalk up the opposing arguments as biased and discount them seemingly immediately?

My core issue so far is people arguing the fight using the skillset that King & Katakuri have but in the hands of us readers e.g. if I was King and thinking logically I would use this set of confirmed skills I have and fight this way in order to defeat Katakuri or vice versa.

If we are simulating the fight we have to stick to the way the characters fought in the manga. Otherwise I'd argue we do have two different outcomes. In a world where we are just comparing raw stats and saying they fight in the most efficient way possible to defeat the opponent (independent of their fighting style) I would give King the edge and say something like 60/40 in Kings favor. This is because the advantages King has do not appear to be time limited or to drain his stamina in any way e.g. King can be in constant defense mode without tiring whereas Katakuri does have a time limit on FS.

My argument in favor of Katakuri was based not only on their abilities but also fighting styles. King's ultimate weakness is opponents that excel in counter attacks which can be used to take advantage of his flame off mode. It just happens to be the case that Katakuri's fighting style is literally fast counters using FS. Does King have the skillset to get around this? The answer is Yes. But does King fight in a way that would actually make use of those skills. At least from the fight with Zoro the answer is No. This is why I give Katakuri an edge since King did not use his own abilities to their best effect in his fight with Zoro.

One can definitely argue that the only reason King lost to Zoro is plot induced stupidity. If we do say that and in a fight with Katakuri PIS would not be involved then I am very open to saying King would have the advantage. Otherwise the arguments people are making in King's favor should have equally applied to his fight with Zoro. In theory King would have stayed in flame on mode 100% of the fight with Zoro minimizing any potential damage. Once Zoro activated aCoC (and later KoH mode), King could easily have just flown out of Zoro's easy range limiting Zoro to using flying slashes which King would easily dodge at a distance. And we know for a fact that Zoro can't keep up aCoC long, let along KoH mode so King could have just tired Zoro out at a distance using only his own long distance attacks. King would have then defeated Zoro pretty easily after he ran out of haki to fight. However, the fight turned out very differently. In fact King chose to fight close quarters once Zoro managed to get the ability to damage him.

At the end of the day whoever wins it is still going to be a high diff fight. In optimal fight making perfect use of their abilities (independent of their personal fighting style), King would come out on top. In a fight matching how they were portrayed in combat I would argue Katkuri would come out on top. Depending on which of the two types of fights you're arguing you can come to different conclusion which I think is perfectly fair.

There’s not much we can do about our bias. They are what they are. But when you are heavily biased, or disingenuous, disregard aspects of characters…That can discount the argument. @grey matter touches on this and more. King debaters are even acknowledging some points from Katakuri debaters; The vice versa isn’t happening and if it is, it’s still disregarding the claim.

You saying a Katakuri has ACoC discounted
Your POV on how the fight would go down, I didn’t expect that reach in your argument.

@Pirate Queen seems to want to be the voice of reason, for once. Except that King is invulnerable. Nobody is making that up, how Katakuri gets around that invulnerability is what we would have to create a fan-fix scenario of…

King debaters aren’t saying Katakuri doesn’t hit King when his flames are off. We are saying he still endured 2 ACoC attacks with his flames off..Only took his flames off because it doesn’t work against someone using ACoC..

While Katakuri debaters are even acknowledging, Katakuri will receive a few attacks regardless of ACoO. What I see more from those on Katakuri side is the created scenario of How Katakuri pulls out a win….Yet there is no argument for how Katakuri can counter King’s Giant Flame Dragon; Or What Pressure Katakuri can apply to force a flame off situation.

I don't know what I could say to prove my points for why Katakuri takes this without being called biased.

All I can say is that I truly believe in a 1v1 fight that Katakuri would win. This is based on seeing both characters fight and taking into account every aspect of each characters abilities, personalities, and faults.

I think there are scenarios in which King can beat Katakuri because they are so close to eachother in powerlevel but less often that Katakuri can beat King.

I have argued my points so often I'm just sounding like a broke record at this point, only for them to be ignored or outright baselessly refuted.

Any fight between the two would be an extremem diff fight with Katakuri edging out King and I'll continue to stand by that.

This a debate and we're putting forth defenses of our stances. I still don't understand why that is considered biased. And I certainly don't understand where I was being disingenuous in my post.

You saying a Katakuri has ACoC discounted
Your POV on how the fight would go down, I didn’t expect that reach
your argument.
Again, I said it was unconfirmed. I assumed that would've been enough to get across that I wasn't applying it to my argument. I even clarified it once more in my follow-up post. Nowhere in my post did I say that Katakuri for sure has AdCoC and that would be the reason why he is able to do damage against King when he's vulnerable. I said Mole would be his best choice of offense and his haki should be up to snuff enough deal damage. I didn't even say that it would take a few hits or anything, just that it should be able to do some harm.

Nobody is making that up, how Katakuri gets around that invulnerability is what we would have to create a fan-fix scenario of…
This entire discussion is a fan-fiction scenario because these characters have never fought and will never fight. Thus the discussion.

King debaters aren’t saying Katakuri doesn’t hit King when his flames are off. We are saying he still endured 2 ACoC attacks with his flames off..Only took his flames off because it doesn’t work against someone using ACoC..

Unless spoilers (which I don't read) reveal something else, the previous chapter had Zoro implying the opposite. AdCoC still wasn't enough for Zoro to pierce King with his flames on.

Giant Imperial Flaming Wings seems to be a rather straightforward attack. Yes, given it's magma like nature and how Oda treats that level of flames, it would be able to do damage to Katakuri's real self, but, and pardon me for assuming, I figured since the general consensus seemed to have been reached earlier in the discussion that Katakuri would be able to dodge Tempura Udon, it'd be agreed that he'd likely be able to dodge this as well. It's not a tracking attack from what we saw, nor is it super fast. Zoro was capable of dodging the smaller version and the larger version was just that, a larger version. I don't see Katakuri going down to it due to his speed and his fruit. In my opinion, it wouldn't be worth it to try and get Katakuri to both stay still and become vulnerable when overpowering him with his strength would likely be the better route.

As for the pressure, both I and @DeadlyBeast gave our arguments for how Katakuri would potentially deal with King's invulnerability. He's a counter-heavy fighter due to FS. King's stronger, physical-based attacks, all have him doing full force with his flames off to increase his momentum and his power. His flying blades, Tankyudon, Tempurdon, Barizodon all have him turn his flames off to attack. Aside from Tempuraudon, for the reasons already stated, I think those techniques would be the best option for putting Katakuri down because of the power and speed behind them. At that same time, he also leaves himself open for counters. While I think Katakuri would be able to potentially eek out a win, I do not think it'd be easy and, again, as I acknowledged in my original argument, if King were to gain the momentum, it'd be easier for him to keep it than for Katakuri to keep it.

You've got a point here.
We all have our biases that we don't realize until we do, but the ones we were talking about were assumptions of disingenuity.

I observe that vast majority of arguments for Katakuri comes from him being YC1, and the headcanon assumption of YC1s being all relative. This reasoning clearly doesn't hold up when we look a bit deeper into it, cause at least half of the "YC1s" are not in same tier.

But looking back, I also used to be one of those guys who had the same headcanon of 'YC1s are in same tier', and I certainly wasn't pushing that viewpoint while believing that it was a lie, I genuinely believed that. It took me a while to come out of that mindset, like it does for many other scenarios where I realized the faults of my viewpoint (like for example me eventually coming to realize admirals are at the very least giving Yonkos a run for their money......even before the whole GB stuff.......while I used to think it was a mid-high diff for Yonkos a couple of years ago)
So, my mistake assuming intentional bias/disingenuity. I should grant others the benefit of doubt instead of assuming they are being disingenuous.

But many of the frustrations that I and others like @XXGenesis are talking about, comes from the appearance that Katakuri pushers aren't giving an inch and keep repeating the same talking points without properly addressing the counter arguments. It's almost like we are talking to a brick wall. (touching more on this later)

While we even grant the possibility of Oda's inconsistencies to Katakuri. Because quite honestly, the debate instantly ends if we take the pre Udon feat of base Kaido blitzing and one shotting pre Udon Luffy at face value.

*********************************

Unless spoilers (which I don't read) reveal something else, the previous chapter had Zoro implying the opposite. AdCoC still wasn't enough for Zoro to pierce King with his flames on.

King was blocking and avoiding his attacks, with Zoro taunting him why.
The above page holds no narrative meaning if Zoro couldn't damage King in his defence mode.

In fact, the entire narrative of Zoro awakening advanced conqueror's haki is null and void, if it wasn't even required to defeat King.

Now..........is it possible that Oda retconned this part? Maybe.
But I believe there is a reason why Oda hasn't made Luffy or Zoro use advanced conqueror's haki yet in the Egghead arc yet. This is simply the PIS that Oda pulls to extend the arc to buy time, until Kizaru and Saturn arrives. Zoro didn't even realize Seraphim looked like Lunarians, and it got played off for a gag.

In my opinion, it wouldn't be worth it to try and get Katakuri to both stay still and become vulnerable when overpowering him with his strength would likely be the better route.
Here is the issue here.

I presume you are talking about the imperial fire dragon final attack. That dragon is as big as Kaido, i.e it is a city block in size. Zoro's size in that page in comparison, he was like an ant in that AOE.
Katakuri can't tweak his body around that. The way he dodges attacks is by tweaking his logia-esque mochi body. This means of dodging attacks clearly won't work when the AOE is big enough.

The tempura udon (that is him stretching his dino head right?), yeah obviously Katakuri dodges it. It's a fast but straightforward attack without any AOE, FS counters it easily.

This simply isn't true.
This is what we are talking about when we saw Katakuri side doesn't listen and just keep repeating the same point.

Defence mode King isn't simply a swordsman. He also has high AOE with his fire.
King creates explosions with this AOE:
This explosion has an AOE as big as the entire omigashima castle!!

It is perfectly reasonable to argue that Katakuri can see these AOE attacks with future sight and tank with armament, or some mochi if he's using awakening, But you lose credibility when you suggest that King doesn't have means to tag Katakuri other than his speed mode, cause he clearly does.

*********************************************************

Narratives:

Just want to discuss this from a narrative perspective, without focusing much into the feats themselves.

The narrative in WCI was to have Luffy finally reach Katakuri's level. This is precisely why Oda had Katakuri say "I no longer view you as my inferior"
While I do believe that Katakuri was still a bit stronger than post WCI Luffy, he was still in same tier. This is manga canon

While it is technically headcanon, it could be argued that maybe the base Kaido blitz and one shot of pre Udon Luffy was an outlier.
Let's assume this is the case, because otherwise Katakuri's feats are so outdated that it makes the discussion completely pointless in my eyes.

Let's say it shouldn't have been a one shot.
The fact still stands that the narrative of pre Udon Luffy was that, he was an irrelevant insect to Kaido. This was the clear narrative that Oda wanted to portray here.
This is exactly why Oda had Kaido say "what changed between Udon and now" after getting hit by Luffy once. And gave him the famous visions of his "5 top". What is narratively signified here is the massive powercreep that happened in the 2-3 weeks since then.

Now look at how Zoro was portrayed in rooftop.
- The wind slash attacks that were deadly to scabbards, that shook even the commander level characters like Kyoshiro, Cat/Dog....... was fodder that wasn't even worth Zoro's time that he casually swatted away with a single sword.
- had so much armament haki in his sword that BM sensed it and asked Kaido to dodge. Was the only attack in rooftop which got this reaction from her. And Kaido dodged it.
- countered Kaido's dragon twister with his own dragon twister. Injured Kaido, and the haki from that attack got him thinking of Oden (while in fact it's just Zoro's haki)
- made an advanced armament haki barrier that blocked and partially deflected hakai. That attack was likely the strongest attack we saw in the arc with the exception of BG and flame drum dragon.
- while injured and in his last legs, used Asura, won a clash and scarred Kaido with presumably an advanced conqueror's haki leak. Maybe this can be discounted since it technically shouldn't be counted for rooftop Zoro's intentional power (i.e power that he can willingly use).

Kaido, after he presumed he had defeated Luffy, Zoro and Law: "What a shame! We could've conquered the world together if you joined me"
Showing how much he grew to respect their power.

Rooftop as standalone, Zoro's portrayal was below nobody's except maybe Luffy's
In what way is this guy even remotely portrayed on the same level as pre Udon Luffy that was narratively an insect to Kaido, let alone BELOW pre Udon Luffy?

Even if we go by feats, rooftop Zoro is in a completely different tier in all stats except CQC in G4 (due to FS)

Both narrative/portrayal and feats suggest rooftop Zoro is different from pre Udon Luffy. Who in turn is Katakuri tier, based on both narrative/portrayal and feats

Three major narratives involved in Zoro vs King fight:
- lunarian narrative
- narrative of Zoro awakening conqueror's haki
- formation of Beast Pirates and Joyboy hints through flashback

Coming to the fight exclusively, the narrative clearly was that King was stronger than rooftop Zoro, to the point where Zoro needed to awaken advanced conqueror's haki.
King could not only fight Zoro in combat as a fighter roughly equal to him, but also was invulnerable to anything thrown at him.
If Zoro didn't need to awaken advanced conqueror's haki in that fight, that part of the narrative loses all meaning.

Further narrative on King's power.
It is his genes that form the core of the Seraphim. Who, even as just teenagers whose lunarian durability is implied to be not near the peak by Vegapunk, are yet to take any damage in the Egghead arc so far.
And they aren't even good fighters like King who could match rooftop Zoro in combat, they are basically damage sponges that are getting smacked around left and right, completely carried by King's genes.

I would like to respond to some of @DeadlyBeast post as well, but this had gone too long already lmao. Another time.

But it does makes sense to duplicate King's genes

You can't duplicate Haki with genes. Heck, even Whitebeard's strength may depend too much on his will.

I do wonder why they didn't cloned Big Mom or Kaido, but even them are vulnerable to ACoC while King seems not.

This simply isn't true.
This is what we are talking about when we saw Katakuri side doesn't listen and just keep repeating the same point.
This doesn't seem fair. BOTH sides seem to be repeating the same talking points and that's only because there is a finite amount of examples we can pull from each of the two YC1's.

While I agree with you on haki.
There is some genetic component to power as well.

Whitebeard's failed clone (I presume Weevil is that) is somehow pretty strong, at least is some high commander range.
Seems to have inherited WB's fighting style.

The Shichibukai clones also seemingly inherited their combat style from the originals as well, as we have seen with the 4 Seraphims.

Clearly, some combat ability and power is being transferred through the cloning process.

Anyway, point stands that we are currently seeing teenage lunarians, who aren't even really skilled in battle and relatively speaking lacking combat stats in general (they are basically punching bags for actual powerful characters in the arc - Luffy, Zoro, Lucci, Kaku, Sanji), take zero damage in the arc so far.
King on the other hand, was a skilled fighter who was had combat stats relative to rooftop Zoro, even if we take away his durability from defence mode.

Seriously, a Seraphim Kaido would be unstoppable. Imagine stacking the dragon fruit on lunarian durability.
I wonder why Vegapunk hasn't made one, he even has Kaido's blood!!

Now that the traitor has been revealed I don't think it will be long before we get to the actual fights, particularly Luffy vs Kizaru. Not sure where Oda is going with this i.e. is it a full fight with a victor or will it be they hold each other off while others around them progress the plot. Either way I think this will be our most detailed display of an Admirals combat abilities which should help settle the Admiral vs Yonko thing.

Whether we get an outcome or not I say Luffy > Kizaru with very high diff. I think Luffy will have better haki & brute strength/attack power on the individual person level (Kizaru has better AoE attack power), Kizaru will have better DF abilities & speed, endurance I put them relatively the same and defense I'm not sure but leaning towards Luffy right now. The reason I place Luffy on top is my sense the gap in the categories he leads are wider than the other way around. My hope is to see Luffy genuinely challenged by Kizaru's versatility, powerful logia abilities, and potentially our first logia awakening. This will also be the first time we see a powerful Navy person fight post the advent of advanced haki so we will get to see if Kizaru has aCoO and/or aCoA, I doubt he has CoC. G5 is definitely gonna be interesting against a light man (can imagine Luffy catching a laser beam and using it as a light saber) and since they're both sun like in their own ways the symbolism will be something like a hopeful light vs an oppressive light. Plus Luffy tends to deal with physical fighters so its always interesting seeing him go up against someone very different like Crocodile or Enel or even Caesar.

Interesting takes on both sides of King vs Katakuri, It is hard to come to a conclusion. I side with King but then somebody convinces me that Kata could win.
I blame Oda, obviously...
We saw more of Kata due to him fighting Luffy in the climax battle, while King vs Zolo was rushed and filled with inconsistencies. Also, King didn't really have any impressive attacks that could pose a threat or so.
Kata has strong CoA but apparently it seems that you need ACoC to harm King, which Kata doesn't have. So Kata would have to wait for King to go on speed mode for Kata to be able to hurt him,,, or so we think.

then there is the unpopular logic of:
Kaido > ACoC Gear 4 Luffy > ACoC/ King Of Hell Zolo > King > ACoA Gear 4 Luffy > Rooftop CoA Zolo > Katakuri >/= Pre Udon/WCI Gear 4 Luffy
Since we saw how well Rooftop CoA Zolo was able to harm Kaido and we saw how Kaido was able to stomp Pre Udon/WCI Gear 4 Luffy, some may assume that Rooftop CoA Zolo can defeat Pre Udon Gear 4 Luffy. Therefore Rooftop CoA Zolo >/= Katakuri and we know Zolo got stronger once he unlocked ACoC/KoH and was able to defeat King but before that Zolo couldn't damage King.
Ultimately leading to: ACoC/KoH Zolo > King > Rooftop CoA Zolo >/= Katakuri.

it is so confusing. The whole rooftop was out of control in terms of power levels.
What bugged me in regards to Zolo's power creep is that he literally went from Basic CoA to Advanced CoC. He skipped ACoA and learning basic CoC, yet we saw what Luffy went through in reaching that level.

And it seems Egghead is going the same direction with power levels being thrown out the window. Why don't Zolo or Luffy use their ACoC to defeat the Seraphim. Luffy used Gear 5 on Lucci for whatever reason earlier but now he's holding out? Like okay?

I don't get why King vs Katakuri is such a big deal?

They are both the strongest subordinate of an Emperor, but King status is slightly above Katakuri since he follows Kaido and has an higher bounty

When it comes to a fight between the two, it would come down to their unique abilities, but personally I think Katakuri has an advantage over King's style

However generally speaking I think King is stronger because even Vegapunk realized how hax his ability is

Since we saw how well Rooftop CoA Zolo was able to harm Kaido and we saw how Kaido was able to stomp Pre Udon/WCI Gear 4 Luffy, some may assume that Rooftop CoA Zolo can defeat Pre Udon Gear 4 Luffy.
I don't think being able to harm Kaido really matters

Kinemon' could do it, but apparently even Doflamingo executes were out of his league

Cannonically it is 50/50. A true stalemate with their abilities. They never fight, they are only in 1 arc with varying screen time, it’s just not enough portryal to say who wins.

But is fans want a ranking/ decisive “winner”.

We’ve been discussing this for a while. I’m gonna give it a rest after this post and move onto another topic.

The questions I don’t see asked which are important to the whole What if? Is..

Whose Faster King with his Flames off? Or Katakuri with his FS?

Would anything cause Katakuri to lose his composure?

Who has more stamina King the Ancient Zoan? Or Katakuri with his 11hour fight with his Luffy?

How does King’s Mode switch get discovered?

I understand why it’s easier to create a scenario for Katakuri to win, he was one of the highlight characters and has one of the best battles in the manga. That being said his portryal as an antagonist is rather solid. While King made his debut in Wano…..Wano Act3 is where he gets most of his portrayals and Act 3 is a cluster ****…Especially Lunarians abilities being explained through not so articulate narrative/dialogue..You know Wano shenanigans…..

For how the fight plays out; I honestly see it being a stalemate with someone needed to gain the upper hand and build off that momentum into a win.

How/Who gains that upperhand? I say Both. But who pulls out a Win, King.

1st set of the fight is a stalemate. King missing all of his attacks while Katakuri landing all of his with no damage to King.
2nd set King baits Katakuri into the Self Explosion, causes Katakuri to lose his composure. King gains his upper hand and slaps Katakuri around.
3rd set Katakuri regains his composure, & gains the upper hand using FS counter attacks, landing hits on Flamed off King.

Final Set. I vote King for the win because he has his aoe attacks & Giant Flame Dragon A definitive advantage. I don’t see how Katakuri can counter.

While I see it as more questionable as to how Katakuri can finish King off. King’s durability is only outdone by ACoC & he has the endurance to take on 2 swords strikes of that caliber…Katakuri doesn’t have ACoC…King still has AOE attacks to counter Katakuri’s FS….What does Katakuri have left…besides saying no he’ll continue to counter King until he wins….Doesn’t seem likely.
