You can feel free to roll a D20 on a reading comprehension check of what I actually said, I'll even grant you an inspiration point if you roll another natty 1. Failing twice more, feel free to set my posts to 'ignore'.

I've never complained about the thing that I'm actively complaining about!
What I’m complaining about, bud, is literally you acting like you’re the one good fan defending poor bullied Oda and the rest of the fandom are blood-starved entitled morons.
Yeah, I do think I understood you just right.

That's why we have these current breaks, to make sure that doesn't happen. We don't want another Togashi situation where we basically get 10 chapters of HunterXHunter every two years because of his health issues.
Really? Because I thought those breaks are dedicated to work with live action show... Those "new audience argument" - Oda is making the most popular manga out there right know, with the best sale ratio, but it's far from over. Most what's he's making (and he isn't making cheap money) he makes out of One Piece manga. I'm longtime Berserk fan. I don't want to Berserk scenario repeat with One Piece, or Vagabond scenario where author just switched to other project and left one the greatest manga ever unfinished.

I fully understand health breaks like the last one month break (hell, I've been thinking this break is too short for this kind of operation), but when author is switching his attention to some other project that isn't closely tied to manga, it's getting irritating. That's all. I know you all love Oda but what I read from your comments is - "I'm willing to let even Togashi behaviour slid right know" and for what? For NETFLIX show? Netflix didn't make good show for years (beside maybe Better Caul Saul) and you're believing this project will be good? One Piece isn't real live action material, Dragon Ball isn't, Naruto isn't and shone manga in general isn't. I'd understand creating something like Vagabond or Vinland Saga this way, but not One Piece.

And it's even more irritating because One Piece lately was at its peak storywise. I love One piece and I want more of it... and quite frankly I was expecting thet after this break we'd get at least 3 chapter for a month, not one week break after just one chapter after the latest break.

Your level of hatefulness is baffling, let’s leave it at that.
Or: I can get the meaningless last word and you can press the ignore button and we can leave it at that.

So, where is there even an ounce of evidence that he's "switching his attention" to the live action at the expense of the manga?

What's that? There's literally not a shred of evidence that's happening? Wowzers!

Then you've got some real problems with understanding what you're reading because Oda himself has commented that he's taking more breaks due to coworking with live action and promotion.

Guys what's going on? Is there another break after this chapter or what? Please kindly explain
No. We've got some hints already. Apparently it's gonna be dope chapter.

Yeah, pure bullied Oda making millions out of manga, he's making us a favour to realese chapter once a year, such a poor guy. I guess we've got some real difference between honest European approach to things and american approach ;)

Also, I have no idea what privilege you’re referring to. My privilege as a reader, compared to an author? How is buying manga a privilege? Privilege has nothing to do with this conversation.
Weirdly nobody is saying the elephant in the room, but I think @Rein Avara is referring to the privilege of getting free chapters weekly before they even come out officially, and not buying the manga? It's serious choosing-beggar attitude for one to complain about a break when they have been enjoying free chapters for years. Everyone is entitled to complain about whatever, but not all complaints are created equally, and complaining about the lack of a free manga chapter is pretty far down there in the pecking order of things that would elicit sympathy from me, personally. I also occasionally (it's been a while) see the fan who talks about how they've bought every volume known to man so they're entitled to bitch about breaks and stuff, but honestly, that's like if I bought Final Fantasy 1-16, then bitched that I couldn't pirate 17. Fact of the matter is nobody can buy the chapter that hasn't even been released yet, so the level of entitlement to a free chapter is triggering for some.

Also seeing someone say they hope the live action fails is just ridiculous.
People who have that kind of attitude in life are the same ones who don't return their shopping carts to the carousel.
They're the type of person who tells you're they're on the way to meet you when they haven't even showered or gotten ready yet.
They're the type of person who takes their shoes off on a commercial flight, then props their feet up on the headrest of your chair, stinking up the whole area.
They're the people who never tip service workers.

Pff, I don't like the kind of people who takes all things unconditionally. I don't want live action to fail, I just think it will based on what I saw on the trailer and base material which isn't compatible with live action. For example I didn't want Netflix's Witcher to fail as well but I knew it will based on: a) going to much off from a base material, b) main actor who isn't holding the candle to original polish one, c) making to much "equality, gender" and all that shit matters, d) losing unique Slavic touch and making it generic western fantasy, the game and the books has this slavic touch and it made the Witcher amazing

I think One Piece series from Netflix may be quite comparable in that matter with The Witcher.

Reassuming - nobody is hoping that live action will fail, but it can be presumed on the trailers. It looks like just another DB Evolution. Really bad.

I don’t disagree that it’ll probably be hot garbage, however, I’m not even talking about you. I’m talking about the person who literally said they want it to fail.

At this point I’m being salty and wish for the Live adaptation to flop massively so that Oda understands what he’s done to us…
See you guys in October
I’ll go on hiatus myself..

Damn wonder if Sentomaru dies by Kizaru's hands. That would start this conflict off on a serious note. Either way if there is a hype moment coming up might mean we see a new move from Kizaru, likely one matching his namesake.

Eiichiro Oda Message in WSJ Issue No. 36-37: “Sorry for the inconsistent schedule before the release of the Netflix show.”

This is the only evidence anyone could possibly have to support the ridiculous claim that Oda is focusing on the live action at the expense of the manga. Totally ghastly stuff, truly going the way of GRRM, that Oda. Elbaf is going to be the next Winds of Winter, woe is us.

Dude has literally had like what, one or two more breaks on top of his regular break schedule and WSJ's unrelated break schedule? Let's pollute a whole thread about it!

Out of the myriad reasons to make fun of americans, this is a stretch that'd make Luffy blush with envy

We need a real backstory between Kizaru/Sentomaru/Vegapunk for this conflict to really have the tension it deserves. That one panel of the three of them chilling in the past was tantalizing af, I need to know what the hell is the deal with Kizaru already.

Tbh the free chapter stuff is a matter of opinion. I feel it’s not the same reading a free chapter of OP and reading a free chapter of a small title that hasn’t made it. Just like stealing from Walmart isn’t the same as stealing from your local store. So I don’t know that it’s a “privilege”. And if it is then it’s a very small one. People are making money out of One Piece wether we’re getting chapters for free or not, and the show is an attempt to milk this cash cow some more.

As for wishing the show to fail, I of course think it’s silly, just as I think it’s silly to bash Oda for taking breaks. There’s a world between bashing and just voicing frustration, tho.
What I think is interesting is whenever someone says that it sucks that there’s a break, you immediately get three people that have to voice at length their being really fine with it and remind everyone that Oda leads a stressful life and should be in good health and so on. But it’s not like anybody (except for crazy people) is saying otherwise, like, ever. Yet even just voicing frustration is met with suspicion of entitlement and so on.

I’m also tired of everybody throwing the concept of “entitlement” around like it’s humanity’s worst bane. That’s probably a US cultural thing but I’m not a fan of the implications.
Usually, people who throw this concept around are the type of people who rant about how young people these days are so spoiled, a lot more than in their time.
They’re the type of people that won’t give money to a bum on the street because they think they should get a job. They’re the type of people who hate welfare because why should their taxes pay for other people’s well-being?

This is also a mindset that somehow disconnects OP from its economical and material condition of existence, as if it was just the story of a passionate manga author and the work of art he’s drawing.

OP is a business that generates huge sums of money, and that means the readership isn’t on an even ground with the author and publishers . Our opinion on a manga forum, even the rudest and most unreasonable, don’t change a single thing, don’t hurt Oda, don’t hurt Sueisha, so I really don’t get why everyone is so loyally rushing to defend them. It’s like y’all want a medal for defending the strongest guy around from a couple of ants trying to sting him through his shoes.

I guarantee you that the three or so people in this thread that consistently counter-complain about people like you who whine about Oda's breaks are not even close to the strawman you've constructed for Americans using the term "entitlement". You're thinking of the common American conservative, and I sincerely doubt any conservative fan of One Piece is too concerned about Oda's health or the amount of breaks he takes... outside of complaining about how they want more content to consume.

I'm not sure where you learn about American culture, but you've got the entire concept of entitlement ass-backwards.

I expect we'll get some more backstory but not that much. My guess is they'll get the Kaido treatment with part of a chapter dedicated to flashback but nothing like what we got for people like BM or Doffy. I think if we get any legit flashback this chapter it has to be for VP himself or better yet Kuma but now I'm not so sure anymore.

Naw I'm pretty sure I get to. Rein's post above is the tip of the iceberg. "We are here to discuss"... again, the 'just-my-opinion-I'm-free-to-give' posters: we're also free to push back against your freely-posted posts. I'm not "bashing someone for having an opinion"; I love opinions. I'm bashing people who are shitting on Oda for having breaks. And insinuating he's having breaks because of the LA production. Objectively: fuck that.

Look, we all remember 99% of anime LA adaptations. We're all worn down from them. There's an unnerving amount of evidence that OPLA might actually be really good. And to see people sassing at Oda's breaks like he's GRRM... fuck that as well.
I have said what I needed to on first part. Wishing some project to fail is low but someone just talking about unplanned breaks doesn’t make them social outcasts.

On the LA thing, i am willing to give it a chance. It’s a medium that mangakas haven’t really cracked yet but it could be different this time.
One piece is already a phenom in its regular forms, both manga and anime, even if most of us don’t rely on the latter. LA could unlock new audiences similarly even if it doesn’t take off with its regular audiences.

OP is perhaps second only to DBZ in terms of penetration across geographies. You can see this in merchandising across kids stores. I have seen it transform from a niche to mainstream in the last 5+ years alone. All this is in large part because of this free chapter and episode availability. Oda and his team know this, even the official release keeps the latest chapter free to read. So just because we are reading it for free doesn’t take away our right to talk even complain, be it about some story arc, character or even breaks. Heck there is person who only reads Zoro related stuff and nothing else. Complain is form of love, the true opposite is indifference. It becomes twisted when someone starts wishing for a project to fail but pretty sure the person who quoted wasn’t doing anything like that.

No one cares about other mangas as much. OP is in a league where it’s #1-10 and may be then something else. HxH took so many breaks that it broke the audiences. I know the author has health issues, but many have come to the understanding that it’s might never get completed. No one seriously believes that to be the case with OP.

I'll still keep my expectations mid. But I do kinda hope we see what Saturn's form really is.

Oh no Kizaru took down Sentimaru who didn't see that coming? Everybody complaining about it last chapter that's who.

And wow a lot of people complaining and people complaining about complaining lol.

He is not your bitch. I had maintain this belief for multiple years already. If 5 years ago, if Oda decide to retire and left the story unfinished. I am fine with it. I am fine with him spending time with his family. Living his life, travel. Do the things he want to do. Live the life he want to live. He already made enough money that he probably don't even know what to do with it. I don't mind if he live selfishly for the rest of his life.

Forgoing a South African trip? Forgoing hanging with friends and family? For these guys online? I don't even think he or anyone should forfeit that much freedom for my own enjoyment much less these ingrates. But too many people depend on him for jobs and business. So be it.

Even the minimum wage worker phone in their job performance from time to time. I can count on one hand how many mangaka create over 100+ volume of work over their entire career. And the guy still chunking out 3 to 4 volumes a year. Even if he chunking out 2 volumes a year this year. It is still more than many of the works that hiatus for years whether they are books, light novels, etc. And you act like he ain't wag his tail enough for you folks.

I personally feel like I owed Oda. I owed you folks nothing. One of the dude on here, ask why bashing other members... Why? Because I excited to see the hint thread active. I thought I got new hints. Only to click on it and see ingrates that done nothing for me or much for the world for that better, complaining and wish ill on someone who I feel i owed something to. Basically flame baiting this thread. Basically derailing this thread. Basically affecting my day. If you want, create your own whiner thread. And left your whining over there. And I know never to click of it. If you want to hear your own voice whining. Or stroking each others. Create your own space and do it there, instead of baiting other. I am here for the hints.

I already add so many of you on my ignored list already. I would never associate with you folks in real life.

It kinda jarring about characters dropping dead last chapter. I hope they had some reactions to the two dead vegapunks.

Still pretty frustrated Kaidou got that truncated flashback. Big Mom got a lovingly detailed story which I loved, and Kaidou got cliff's notes. I assume because a lot of his story will have to do with Rocks, but at the same time... so should Linlin's backstory. But we didn't get shortchanged on her backstory the way we did Kaidou's even though they both had similar origins.
