OK, I get your point. However, I was referring to the fact that travellers, gitanos, manush, or zigeuners are all words used to describe Roma/Romani people - a nomadic race in essence.

In English, I would prefer using the following forms: travellers or Roma/Romani. Since gypsy has negative connotations, I tend to avoid it or replace it to the ones I mentioned above.

The roma are ethnically different from the Irish (and scottish) Travellers. Which is why giving the roma, the traveler's name, is taking that name away from the Irish travellers. Calling roma, travellers is not really done here. They are both refereed to as gypsies but when differentiating, its roma gypsy and irish traveller (or just traveller) gypsy. It probably doesnt matter much over there, since there are no irish travellers outside the british isles. But yea, there is a differentiation between the two here, and the traveller term is not used for both. I didnt know people used the traveller term for roma as well.
