oh btw, ive been trying to make gravy out of the following:

2. garlic powder
3. pepper
4. unsalted butter

@MD- You're lacking actual meat. Apart from cheating (with broth cubes or chicken powder), using real meat in the process is the only way to get that extra kick. Cut the pieces of meat (beef or lamb, since lamb is common over there) into 1in chunks and brown them in some oil. once it starts to brown, add in a halved onion (with the root, so that the onion stays whole), 3-4 garlic cloves (unpeeled, crushed), and some fennel seeds (this is optional), and about 10g butter; continue browning. drain out the grease from the pan, chuck all the ingredients back in, then slowly ladle in the liquid of your choice (add it in incriments, slowly reducing, so that you can extract all the flavor). once you've added in all the liquid, let it simmer for about 20m. strain the mixture, then let the liquid reduce, till it has the same consistency as room temp oil.

Normally, liquid means either stock or water...preferably stock.

stock is the key to gravy

The generally known gravy is just basically stock, flour and butter (although technically, "gravy" is the juices and fats from roasting and browning, but whatevs)

You start with the liquid (stock- needs to be the juice of your meats, that you got from hours of braising) on hand. You thicken it with your one-part flour and one-part butter.

Then it's up to you to add your spices: peppercorns (would make it peppercorn sauce), mushrooms (would make it mushroom gravy), rosemary, etc. etc. etc.

If you have roast gravy (mentioned above- which is very oily and fatty- in which you have had to have roasted something ), all you need is the flour because there is already fat (so no more butter), and maybe adjust the consistency to your liking.
