OMG are you hearing this guy?

and all its commenters?

http://internetjaywalking.blogspot.com/2007/07/i-hate-filipino-culture.html?spref=fb&m=1

what the fuck is wrong with these people? Who gives anybody the right to look down on the "masa"???!!! Who ever separated him/her from the rest of the masses?

Who gives a shit about mainstream media? Who cares that Jimmy Santos gets paid to speak "broken English"? OMAYGAD! Diskarte ni Jimmy yun, wag mo na pakialaman kung paano sya namumuhay, nemen.

or something... *cough*

Not that I'm a jimmy santos fan, or anything, or that I disagree with all that the author is saying, but hot damn. This is not how you elaborate your petty problems bro. And you do not blame these peeves for poverty or whatever cancers our society has. There are more pressing concerns than abolishing "gay lingo" or firing Jimmy Santos. Is what I'm saying.

I actually agree with him. Mainstream media is a tried and tested mind-control tool, used by people in power to control the masses. It's the reason to why coke sales increase during the chrismas season, and it's also the reason to why the youth can no longer speak tagalog or english properly.

Oo it's influence, like any other media.

pero naman. "gay lingo"? Chorva is a gay word, but people who use chorva to substitute words do not count as people who speak "gay lingo". Have you actually heard the "gay lingo"? It's called language for a reason- and that reason is because, they have their own set of words. they understand each other. pag sila nag salita in pure "gay lingo" you can't understand shit.

the author- on that point alone- contradicted himself/herself. And discriminated the gay lingo. That's just the tip of this iceberg of an article. Sort of... TL;DR...

Tska, yes may point sya ukol sa ibang bagay, pero- those are P.E.T.T.Y and do not sum up our culture as a whole, which he/she has liberally done. Masyado mataas ang tingin nya sa sarili nya. So I don't watch Willie shows. So what? So people like Willie. So what? So Americans like Glee, or American Idol, or some other lousy show in the US. SAME FRIGGIN' BANANA.

Everybody hates something, or likes something.

If I may point out the problem of the article, it was the overuse of the word culture. Sige, dun nalang sya tumira sa kinaiinggitan nyang kultura. Wherever that is. And may he/she rest in peace there. wala kasing pinatunguhan yung article, walang proposed solution.

Besides, I have a hard time speaking Tagalog kasi bisaya man ko. pasensya na gyud kaayo kay di mana mao among tinuod na linguahe.

Napakanegative ng taong yan at napakaimmature.

May sinabi pa siya tungkol kay Lito Lapid. Di ba niya alam na si Lito Lapid ay isa sa mga senador na may pinakaramaraming panukalang batas na naaprubahan!

The fact that he/she wrote the article in English is very unpatriotic at the first place. o dahil para mabasa ng non-Filipinos.

I still agree with the blogger, but I wouldn't limit the media problems to our country. All forms of media around the globe are going through tons of "dumbing down" processes, wherein everything is starting to resemble each other (in terms of shallow content, in order to please the shallow majority that consume). May it be TV shows, movies, video games, or radio shows, it's all gone to the shitter...and along with it, the brains of the world's people.

I for one believe that subcultural languages are detrimental to the survival of the languages that they are derived from, but I understand that it is a necessary evil, in order for languages to evolve. Do I use them? Yes, I think we all do (since jargon counts).

The validity of the problem is relative to the person who views it. Viewed from a nationalistic standpoint, the points he's raised may be deemed petty, but for someone who is not nationalistic and is only interested in weeding out problems, they're pretty valid. As far as nationalism is concerned, I'm on the same boat as George Carlin.

I'm sorry if the tagalog/english comment offended you, I only used it because they are the two languages I am exposed to within the metro (chinese doesn't count, since only one person talks to me in chinese). What I was trying to say is that a large majority of people nowadays have little to no mastery over at least one language...which is sad, since it shows how bad the educational system is. I myself have friends (friends that I grew up with) who only speak "Coño English" and "Taglish" (sadly, their best attempt at tagalog), and it pains me because I know that they're fully capable of speaking in straight English, yet they choose to sound like imbeciles...and all because of the media. One of those said friends works as a DJ for a local radio station, and he actually said that he was told to speak in "Taglish", just so that the listeners can better relate (their target audience being teens to young adults)...ugh...

Quote from the blogger:

I hate it that the word “ambisyosa” or “ambisyoso” has a negative connotation here. Our society dictates us to conform and not to stand out. Our society stifles creativity in the name of practicality. Our society suppresses assertiveness and encourages submissiveness –Kids can’t argue with their parents and students can’t argue with their teachers. We’re raising generations upon generations of drones and servants when we should be raising thinkers and leaders. I actually think that our schools are making us more stupid.

---

-Di ba niya alam na humble ang mga Filipino? :XD

---------- Post added at 11:39 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:36 PM ----------

Kids who are exposed to foreign literature, foreign media and foreign cultures usually grow up to have more open and creative minds. I believe one reason why our achievements, as a nation, pale considerably to those of our neighbors is that “our” culture is inherently flawed. Those of us who succeed here are either of a foreign culture (the Chinese) or those exposed to western ideals. Masa culture isn’t Filipino culture. Mainstream media makes it seem like it is. We shouldn’t be proud of it. We shouldn’t embrace it. Masa culture is a byproduct of ignorance. It’s also a purveyor of ignorance. A vicious beast that feeds on itself

---

-Napakaunpatriotic. Talaga.

(Tama ba yung word na unpatriotic?)

I know that it's a joke, but I'm going to say it anyway. False humility is pride in disguise. Better to be proud if it's in your nature, than to mock humility.

Yes, unpatriotic is a word.

I'm guilty of that. I learned how to speak Filipino in the 5th grade, when I was in danger of failing and taking summer classes. I still have to internally translate from Filipino to English (and vice versa), but that doesn't stop me from speaking both languages properly...my Filipino reading comprehension on the other hand is still pretty low. Being taught one language before the other shouldn't be that big of a problem, if you have the will to learn and the drive to improve your self.

no it didn't offend me, PB.

What I was trying to say is that, the author noted on "language" without even fully understanding the reasons why some cannot grasp Tagalog- or why some refuse to, for that matter. Or- the more major flaw- that he/she assumed that Filipino language = Tagalog. When we have as many as the islands that we have in this archipelago.

Why, for years that students are required to write in the Sulating Pangwakas on the topic of the importance of the Filipino (that was then largely Tagalog words) language, elementary students of those non-Tagalog regions- cannot seem to express because they don't see the point in it.

In my family's statistics alone we all had a hard time with the Filipino subject- and had barely passing grades, and it's because it's not our native tongue in the first place. It's the same, probably, if you were to take Spanish or Mandarin when you don't even speak it at home.

Why the unnecessary hate, kung baga? There is no need. Kung makikialam kasi, dig deeper. The shallow scratches are just annoying and not really helpful.

bakit may pink? lol.

relevant ba yun sa discussion or out of curiosity? hehe. If it's out of curiosity I will answer your question :derp

Anyway, nahihilo na ako. It's my sleeping time since I woke up at 6 am... and still sticky from kitchen work and yoga (:narutokyu) practicing handstands for the first time (why, I don't know, just wanted to learn an awesome trick maybe- since I didn't know how to cartwheel as a child and considered myself a loser), and learning a Beyonce song (for the first time din!).

BUT! Gusto ko pa magpunta sa sauna and get a massage... :uguu

ahahaha matalino! tamang sagot yan! :ck

UPD po.

pero according to a prof, pahiya naman daw ako na ipa gradweyt nya ako and let me loose into society- and said it was her responsibility to not let me graduate bearing the school name hahaha.

And I didn't really care anymore, because I really wanted to get out of there fast- I just wanted to finish the course and move on with the next- which I stuck to thankfully. Enrolling in that course was an immature decision of a 15-year-old me.

Seriously, those who can decide what to do with their lives at a very young age are truly blessed. I find shifting courses to be quite normal because generally a teen doesn't know shit what to do for the rest of his/her life, or how to make a living out if the thing they want most. Hell, this identity crisis is present even for those well in their forties.

Kaya, ang mantra: Kung saan ka masaya :cookiehand
