re: atheism, it's not so much as I'm not, but that I'm agnostic. Tsk tsk, the things the university does.
atheism is a very subjective topic. As far as I'm concerned, I believe in what I believe that which controls my fate (and I believe it's me and one other phenomena). It may sound atheistic but I'm not. I'm just UBER cynical with everything that's been happening in my short span of life.

about atheism...to be more precise, I've converted recently to atheistic existentialism...I'm still learning the philosophy of it...basically, the gist of it is:
+ the universe/God is unknowable
+ you have freedom of choice
+ you create your own meaning with your life, it isn't predetermined by an already existing institution or religion or whatever
+ you are responsible for your own actions
+ live an authentic life; in other words, live how you desire to live, for example: if you're working a 9-5 job because you think "you have to", then you're not really "living"
It's sort of complicated, I'm not exactly educated about it myself. Anyway, I thought I'd share it anyway.
@atheism- i wouldn't consider myself an atheist but i do have my doubts with christianity. i do however strongly agree with points 2-5 of what miyi posted... i've been called a cynic a load of times but i just tell them that i'd rather be a cynic than some shmuck that believes things will get better for no apparent reason....

well, for us sheltered catholic folk, d patatalo catholic universities no...! we even had philo of religion...,
3 out of our 12 required philo units in addition to another 12 units of theology! in fact only a few more units here and there and we'd be a match for those taking the priesthood!
since our philo curriculum is mostly a hit and miss, i actually ended up studying phenomenology esp. scheler.
