Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

The supporting cast is definitely more interesting now, after the flashbacks. They were effective at developing the characters, I care more about Annie, Ranier, Jean, and Sasha than I did before this volume. I think they suffered due to the intensity of the last two volumes, rather than lacking in quality. They were well done chapters, but the drop in adrenaline was a bit hard to handle.

Me too! hahahaha

Does anyone know how many chapters is the original release ahead of english?
Volume five comes out next week, which will include chapter 19-22. I am guessing that chapter 23 came out in the July issue of Betsumag, Sama posted about it about around that time (the post fanatik quoted yesterday). The August issue is not out yet but Raw Bunko has already removed raws from July so I have no way to confirm. With the new volume coming soon I hope there is one more batch of HQ tankobon scans before the speed scanners take over. Considering how popular Shingeki has become, I am not counting on it :p

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

On a sidenote with more information we can go back to speculating the titans more :o Looks like I was wrong about them being piloted in the sense I proposed as them actually being people. However, I do wonder why they've never dissected a titan to discover a person since from looking at Eren they're not exactly fully fused. My guess is the brainless titans running amuck are people who are entirely fused to the titan so that even with dissection they become undetectable perhaps? While the eccentrics like Eren are not fully fused hence can return to their human forms, which is probably not the case for the generic titans. So at this point they've noted three eccentrics namely Eren, Colossal, and Armored (one we've yet to see).

As for what makes Eren, and possibly the others too, an eccentric is that my guess is will power. Eren after all as we've seen with the recent background/flashback chapters has an unwaveringly strong resolve so that may be perhaps why he is able to keep some sense or humanity. Well these are my guesses anyways.

They never disected on titan because the corpses evaporate right? Like the carcass Eren leave when he comes back to being human...

I think that is about right. The original human loses independent consciousness and eventually becomes fully fused. There flesh become part of the Titan's, indistinguishable when cut. But the human organs become the titans organs, thus making the neck their week point. Had Armin's voice not reached Eren, that would have been his fate too.

They never disected on titan because the corpses evaporate right? Like the carcass Eren leave when he comes back to being human...
They seem to know that Titans do not have internal organs and can not digest food - thus the mounds of regurgitated corpses. They will probably dissect those two titans that were captured alive, even if the audience does not learn the results immediately.

In addition what Kaiten already pointed out for me there is a difference between cutting open the nape of the neck to chopping it off as they do when killing the titans. Moreover, its quite clear from the chapters before that they had been gathering info on titans through a more scientific means, so dissection was most easily one of those methods. Any case fact that Eren is an eccentric case shows that they had never seen a human at the nape of the neck of a titan or had observed a titan reverting back to human, which from what we can tell from Eren tends to happen when they've reached their limit.

On another note... I'm starting to wonder whether Eren's dad did take that risky gamble of turning his son into a titan just believing that he has a strong resolve. Or perhaps... Eren's father had managed to manufacture whatever it is that turns people into titans to be more of a success in the sense that it increases the likelihood of a sentient individual titan. Could be both of course~ but yeah haven't considered that Eren's father may have somehow improved the chances of the process occurring by changing something in it. We really need to know what is inside that basement :(

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

This is one awesome manga!! Seriously, this manga is intense and interesting at the same time. I also really like the fact that the 'strongest' is the female lead; Mikasa. She is the epitome of awesomeness I haven't seen a strong female character like her in a manga, the main cast is well balanced with Eren, the brawler, Mikasa, the prodigy and Armin, the genius with limited physical capabilities.

I'm so addicted to this manga that I couldn't resist my urge to read the latest raw chapter.

Apparently, some of the Titans seem to evolve and develop different characteristics. The female Titan 'picked' or rather 'chose' that Armin wasn't fit to feast on at least that's the impression that I got from the raw. What I also liked about the chapter was Jean, he seems to grow in his position.

I believe the female eccentric is similar to Eren and the Colossal in that it shows signs of sentience precisely as it could actually defend itself. In addition it showed absolutely no interest in devouring but seemed rather to be toying with Armin and even opted to run away to whatever its goal is rather than eating Jean and Armin who were easy pickings, she also didn't eat any of the corpses of the legion that she had killed she just squashed them like bugs. Her intelligence is several notches above from the titans we see in chapter 22. Eitherway its definitely an eccentric so I'm gunning that the female titan can revert to human.

No, she's not. She's neither a deviant nor a typical one, as Armin deduced, she's the same as Eren - a human in a titan's body. She brought all those typical giants along with her to crush the lookouts. And she's searching for Eren. After that attack of Ryner's, she absolutely did not run away, like Ryner seems to think. She changed course and now is heading straight for Eren. Irvin hid Eren's actual position in the formation (Armin deduced it, anyway, though) to protect Eren (from enemies within, in more than one sense). He's actually in the back of the central row, and that's exactly where that female type's heading right now. I'm hoping for the showdown titan!Eren vs that female human titan.

Based on reaction, no one seemed to have considered the fact that humans could turn into Titans. They clearly had never seen a human when slicing the neck open. If our speculation is correct, and Titans were experimented on humans, they definitely had fused to the muscles of the Titan and lost their individual forms.

There is definitely some understanding of how Titans work, but it seems as though knowledge is limited. They do seem to have a strong handle of anatomy, suggesting that somewhere along the line someone opened one up before it evaporated.

Glad you like it! Shingeki is definitely one of my favorite series and Mikasa. It's refreshing to see a tough, strong woman in manga. I am avoiding spoilers though, not looking at the rest of your post :p

Err there isn't any disagreement here its quite obvious as I've deduced too that she's certainly not a typical titan but one the same as Eren, I just like calling em eccentrics, defining characteristic of sentience is quite obvious. Pretty much I think only Eren could take her down given her level of intelligence, well I don't doubt some teamwork with Mikasa and Irvin could take her down but the possibility of injury would be high. Definitely looks like Eren Vs Female titan is on the way~!

Actually we already saw Armor Giant from volume 1 of the manga. In chapter 1, there's a giant that destroy Wall Maria's gate. And in chapter 15 that we actually know that it's named as Armor Giant.

Oh he doesn't look very armored XD Kinda wrote him off as generic at that point but hey guess if they consider him eccentric~

I didn't realize he was armored until chapter 15. I had forgotten that it was a smaller Titan that busted the wall, I assumed it was the colossal one again.

Ah I looked at the chapter again and I think I see now his uniqueness.

http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/2/30

Look at the mouth area its smoother and more pronounced unlike other titans. His joints probably give the impression of armor. That and most likely this too:

http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/2/27

Weapons didn't seem to be affecting this type of titan which probably lead to it being nicknamed the Armored one since it seemed invulnerable.

Looking back, I can tell the difference too. At the time I didn't pay any attention. Looking at it now, most of the Titans have blank expressions, just "flow" through the herd, and instinctively drift towards humans. The Armored Titan has an expression and energy. In retrospect he seems to have more in common with Colossal Titan and Eren.

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

Well I'm also willing to wager that the female titan is just like Eren too. Judging by her overly outlined muscular build and Eren's titan form has this physical feature as well, unlike other titans who usually have a potbelly and the face of perverted old men. Now the bigger question is what does this female titan want with Eren? And how does she know about him when she's a titan? I was astonished when she spared Armin and co. their bloody demise, maybe she thought Armin was too cute to kill lol. Her lips and eyes as well as high intelligence are clear giveaway's that suggest she's a human transformed titan.

Maybe this female titan was also created by Eren's father and that's why she wants to meet him.

Perhaps the titans are a result of human experimentation like how yoma came about in the manga Claymore. It does seem like there is a conspiracy unfolding behind the aristocrats in the central castle. Or there are other human settlements outside the walls of Rose Maria.

Chapter 24 is the latest chapter out, and it just started getting interesting. This manga's a masterpiece that I just can't help but re-read several times and it still feels awesome.

She is 99% certainly a human! I mean just look at the way she began running she was covering the nape of her neck! No titan had ever done such a thing. Moreover, her maneuvers such as jumping clearly show thought and adaptability, I daresay even at a level above what Eren is capable of at the moment. I also think her "sparing" Armin might actually be not due to mercy but she actually examined his face, she has facial recognition, and probably thought that he was Eren since she was given the wrong multiple information as to where in the formation Eren would be.

Her knowledge actually brings about another concern namely how did she find out... Way for her to find out is through a mole or a spy... I do have a long concern about the titans but I will just explain that when the 24th chapter is scanlated as that would be more salient for discussion.

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

I haven't been reading chapter raws as they come out, so I only know what is going on up until chapter 18 (volume 4 end).

What I find interesting is the relationship between Eren, Mikasa, and Armin. They have been a team since the beginning, and I love how they play off each other. I feel that Armin is a little underdeveloped, but I'm sure as time goes on, he'll be more confident to be the negotiator.

Speaking of Armin, I'm kind of surprised during the training flashback the instructor wondered if there would be a place for him in the scouting legion. Granted, the scouting legion IS the most phsyically taxing job, but I feel like its a bit of a cop out for Armin to have to define his skills...surely the legion have something like a field medic, right?

Sorry if my post is introspective, but I have to admit what is the most fascinating to me is how people behave in this world. It feels very well researched.

Re: Shingeki no Kyojin by ISAYAMA Hajime

What role might Grisha (Eren's father) play in this story? Did he change Mikasa's body as well?

Until now I thought Grisha would be the colossal giant, but it seems he's very known in the military, probably as a researcher. The boot camp instructor knows that Eren is Grisha's son.

http://www.mangareader.net/shingeki-no-kyojin/13/31

I speculate that there are already more Giants like Eren that are failed experiments and only a small number of people in the military know of it.
