Lol about eren and armin dying while trying to make a plane. It makes a disturbing about of sense somehow. Thinking about it, I wonder why exactly it is that the guys at shingekiverse don't have a plane just yet. They figured out how to make an army into steam punk spidermans so making planes should not be as complicated. They are already flying around houses, they might as well take the next step. With their harnesses, iron cables capable of supporting people, their ability to store ridiculous amounts of has, it seems like a plane should be well within their possibilities at large. At least zepellins should be a pretty decent option....
Actually, there's continuation of the summary about that: http://calorescence.tumblr.com/post/61629514045/he-dies-triying-to-fly-it-wtf-thanks-for-replying

It's only Eren that died. Think of it as a parallel of Trost arc. Eren dies saving Armin. XD. They're still kids when they built that plane. It seems like no matter what alternate universe Eren is in, he seems bound to die. XD

"Eren is apparently the kind of guy who would get himself killed seeking freedom in literally any universe, peaceful or not."

LOL...

No comment. I don't even know what to say.

I was talking about a about a technological thing in the shingeki no kyojin universe more than the summary. In terms of technology it would appear the shingeki guys are actually somewhere between the early 1900s and industrial revolution. They have steam technology, they can compress and store gas, they have canned food, they have improbably strong iron cables which they can shoot at speeds great enough to attach themselves at random surfaces.... Looking a bit more into flight history it doesn't seem like people really got the hang of it until halfway through the 20th century where they finally got the underlying principles of flight. Then again the shingeki guys do seem to have the advantages of more advanced technology than the guys figuring out the real world stuff. Imagine if they could just hang glide.... They would be able to go so far beyond the wall with virtually no risk.

I know, just correcting one info. It's just Eren who died.

All in all though, it's probably because the people who want to go outside are too busy wanting to eradicate Titans and extending lands for humanity rather than just in it for pure exploration before the fall of Wall Maria. And have we really seen them use steam technology(other than the maneuvering gears)? I haven't even seen them use it in ships nor have they even built steam-powered trains yet.

I'm not an expert in hang gliding either, but I wonder how high can those gliders reach and how long can they stay in a distance where Titans wouldn't suddenly jump to them out of nowhere.

Right now people aren't too overly concerned with exterminating titans. Well, they are, but they are not doing it right now. There is a reason the main army is called "scouting" legion and not "exterminating" or "purging" legion. The scouting legion is out to get information on how to exterminate the titans, to explore the lands infested with them. Right now their alternative is horse riding around titans which is quite inconvenient. I guess the concept of flight is ultimately too foreign to them even if they have the basic technology to build simple gliders or planes. Still, if they had them the scouting legion would scout more in a day than what they have in their entire existence.

Or it could just be possible that only a few to zero people who's actually interested and studying aerodynamics. That's why they haven't thought of using this or possibly haven't even invented it yet. XD.

Oh and of course, right now, the priority of the Survey Corp is not about getting info on how to kill Titans or explore lands infested by them. Well, this could have been an applicable definition to them during pre-fall of Wall Maria, but right now, their focus is shifted in reclaiming the wall again and then exterminating Titans within it. And most of the normal people right now are concerned on either saving their skins or wanting to get Wall Maria back again. They couldn't possibly care much about aviation transport right now. :cookiearf. Maybe if they actually seal the gates, that's when people would start caring about these stuff? Just like in Mikasa Gaiden. XD

That aside, has anybody heard a theory about the current arc on how it's Trost and Shiganshina arc in reverse? http://calorescence.tumblr.com/post/61258366716/yeah-talking-about-the-arc-starting-from-the-fall

Does this mean we're actually close to getting a flashback arc for RBA+Ymir?

Hmm, an interesting read. And this could pretty much be right. Althrough I'm not exactly sure I like what it implies for the future, though a Ymir + RBA flashback would be welcome...

And if things are done in the reverse, what can we expect for the future? Well, Hannes fled from the titan last time, this time he will attempt to kill it? And that about Ymir going from soldier -> outcast this time... Well, that could simply be foreshadowing her flashback to the time when she was a mindless titan, but could also foreshadowing (assuming the writer is correct) her staying outside when the others return to the wall (Historia will be safe enough inside for the time being and Ymir might not exactly be welcomed with open arms inside since she has shown herself sorta untrustworth)...

So wait, Isayama's target on how many volumes he wants for the manga is 20? So he is ending it on the 20th volume? Can anyone confirm this rumor, or if it even is a rumor to begin with? But we're already close to volume 20....I thought it would at least have 25 volumes but 20? It feels so short. T^T.

...I think it's a 100 chapters since in my copies, there's at least 5 chapters inside a volume... XD.

I still think it's pretty short. I was hoping for at least 110..... XD. Not exactly a hundred though. Then again, I was probably comparing the number of volumes to FMA(27 vol). XD. Which is actually stupid in my part since FMA goes with 4 chapters/volume. Not 5. XD

Full Interview with Isayama

Well not translated but you can see his workplace and some scribbles for example. Maybe some people who understand japanese can give us a bit more insight.

A few points are already provided in the link given by Newkerzy on the last page:

Also, he said Eren's 'bravery' was what he lacked, and through the manga he drew what he didn't have, and what he wanted to be. As a child, there was once the kids he was playing with all jumped off some high place at the river, but he didn't have the courage to. Thinking back as an adult, he wished he had jumped, but then again he might not have drawn the manga if he did jump.

He was then asked, what did he want to say through manga. He said, simply drawing manga and bringing it to the publishers was enough for him to be proud. There would be times when he might fail and gives him a bitter experience. In spite of that, taking action is better than not taking action even if he might get rejected.

Somehow I feel there's a lot of 'Armin' in him :p Well it's his character after all.

That rumor is came from Isayama's discussion with Endou Hiroki (author of All Rounder Meguru), which was released on November Issue of Gong Kakutougi (martial art magazine). Apparently during the conversation, Isayama said that he is planning to end the series on volume 20.

It was one of those totally non-binding, semi-meaningless, idle comments mangaka seem to make all the time (year of Kakashi!) but are in no way obligated to live up to. Maybe he does end it after 20 volumes, maybe he decides he has more to say.

@Kaiten
Yeah, I would've totally agreed with you with any other author...but Isayama pretty much planned out most of the plot already. If I recall, in my copy of volume 1, there was an interview from him that was translated, which was taken from Bessatsu Shonen Magazine December 2010. He did say he planned almost everything out. He even mentioned which volumes are going to have this such-and-such surprises, like volume 5 and volume 10. Guess what happened in those volumes? The appearance of the Female Titan, and the revelations of the identities of the Colossus Titan and the Armored Titan+Ymir respectively. Volume 5 was released about 8 months after this interview, while Volume 10 was released at least 2 years later.

He pretty much has an idea which volume has which. Of course unless he really does decide to add 1 or 2 more volumes. XD

Anyway, I just realized something. I think I'm actually late with this, but did anyone noticed that as the series progresses, our main trio(EMA) are transforming into "monsters," while our enemy trio(RBA) are actually starting to look more like "humans"?

Quoted because I don't mean it literally, especially with EMA.

I don't think he planned everything like that. He knows how he'll finish his manga and how he'll deal with certain of his characters. I remember he said that he took a week to think about the plot and 3 weeks to draw. Even if he planned to reveal that Grisha is the Ape Titan(I don't think that), he has to think about how to announce that, what to put in what panel etc. Almost all (if not all)mangakas know how they'll finish their stories.

This is true. It's more or less a part of their job to have the major parts figured out, or at least it's the norm. He might be better than average at sticking to particular chapter/volume counts for his reveals, though. The trade-off for that is that he could be too ruthless about cutting scenes to work with his schedule, OR however appropriate or inspired an idea might come to him later (as does with any writer), he might not be allowing himself to add them in... or such ideas may just come to him too late. (If so, that might explain why some of the filler was added to the anime.)

I can think of one famous mangaka who very obviously didn't have a plan though (and pretty much admitted it)! :teehee

If Bakuman were any indication of how mangaka artists are in real life(minus all the exaggerated drama and stuff), there really are mangaka artists who actually don't plan or don't even know what the ending is going to be until late in the game. Seriously, some just pitch things with their editor and just go along with it if the pitch was that good.

The one that I'm concerned with Isayama is his precision in that specific interview. Normally, I'm pretty sure a normal mangaka wouldn't know which volumes has which. But with Isayama, he pretty much stayed true to his words in which volumes has the surprises especially with volume 10(2 years after the interview). That pretty much says how much a mangaka planned things all out when he managed to predict when the surprise is going to be after 2 years.
