Chapter 18 is out guys. Another excellet chapter.

Btw, last chapter we had a cow giving a breach birth, right after Arawaka herself gave birth to her second child. Do you think her child's birth went the same? I mean, with his head being the other way around. I don't have much to base it on, but she could as well show us a normal birth.

That last panel of Ogre Mikage's dad is so hilarious!! i laughed soo hard xDDD
The panel as it is normally will be so scary, but in an overall context it is very funny. i realized there are a lot of such panels in Silver Spoon, which is part of the charm. Ah Arakawa-sensei is amazing. xD

New chapter is out,

Haha, the ramen twist was really funny. That was an interesting chapter, we get to know a bit more of Hachiken family.

I Like this chapter, it seems hachiken's dad is very rude.
And the brother is just hilarious xD The ramen is ugly but he's happy and drive on with his motorcycle.
What a life.

Hmm... I wonder how Hachiken's brother will reappear afterwards in the story. Will he succeed in opening his very own ramen restaurant? Maybe he'll open it in Hokkaido, near the school?

Wow. Hachiken's parents really didn't succeed with their kids, it seems. A college dropout and a burnout? Phew. Still, looks like Yugo is well on his way to finding himself.

Shingo was silly. Typical freeloading fuzzy bearded sib. (Why no, I am not talking from experience, why would you think that?)

It was nice to see how Yugo has grown in regards to developing the ability to academically bullshit (it is truly an artform, but I sense there is hope for him) and handle livestock/farm life.

Latest chapter may suggest otherwise, I would think perhaps they were to clingy and expecting of them that it made them delinquent. While the older brother seemed to be a lost cause ina sense, he is living life as he wants to with no rules as to what he should make of himself. Even if he can't make ramen he's still happy living life as he wants to which is the same reason why Hachiken wanted to go to a dorm school. It's not that his parents are bad people, just overbearing. As you can see with Hachiken as a person, he was raised well he just wants to creep away from his parents shadow of always looking after him and it's lead him to a path which he would have never seen if he had just stuck it at home with his family.

Had he taken the straight-edge he would of gone to a normal high school lived at home and would have never gained the knowledge of what he's learned now.

:Related to chapter that just came out:
With the current chapter that's come out it suggest more that his parents aren't bad people with the simple comment that he and his brother seem to have a heightened sense of taste because they ate high quality food. The latest chapter is interesting also in the sense that the coldhard reality has hit Hachiken about life as a farmer. His knowledge brings into terms of the actual profit they turn and even though they can act so carefree and really enjoy what they do after an absent-minded mistake he realizes how much flubbing once can cost a farm that it's sunk him intoa deep guilt. Damn cliffhanger though leaving it at the point where he declines taking the salary he was suppose to be given because he wants to make up for his mistake. I"m curious as to how the family may react to it, or if they'll explain how things like this are always bound to happen you just have to learn from it. Then they'll prolly comment as to how he has to come back next year to make up for it.

In the irony of things, it's always bound to happen, at least I"ve had personal experiences where you would be praised for your work and how good you are doing and then something happens that you're at fault for that you end up feeling those praises are uncalled for. But ya I"m surprised the summer vacation is over, I wonder if we'll spend another chapter at the farm or perhaps half their and the rest back and school for the nex semester, I definitely look forward to the next chapter of this manga to out.

chapter 24

another very awesome and hilarious chapter! :D i love this manga more and more!

i really don't understand why the booth owners feel so threatened by the Yezo High Students. They are all customers, great customers!
If their buying power is so great that they make everything sold out in the middle of the day, wouldn't that be good? all they need to do is buy more ingredients and make more profit. 0___o

Oh heck! Reality is harsh, but after hearing the teacher's speech it makes sense what Hachiken did.... If Hachiken cried i would cry too, who never had to experience the death of a beloved pet? A dog or cat, for Hachi was a pig...

I'm not surprised. I know I couldn't handle it - that's why I'm not a doctor or veterinarian. Many people lose it at that point in med school. They had live frogs in the lab next to my bio class lab for weeks. Whenever I went in to do my independent research, it was comforting to hear them. Then the lab techs tossed them into a container of poison and next thing I knew I was dissecting it for class. Made me feel horrible.

Food. Noms. It is always important to remember we feed off of death, even vegetarians. But I couldn't handle it.

I don't think that killing is the worse part. Most of the time it is done in a separate facility. And being turned into food is the purpose, so deny the death would be hypocritical. I like how Hachiken decide to buy the food instead, that is sign he has matured.
On the contrary, seing the animal you take care of dying of sickness, is very hard. Nonetheless, sickness can be sometime very gruesome, but it also means that you loose all the effort you made so far ( and of course the animal suffering )

Hum, where are we going off topic, isn't that what the manga chapters are about at the moment ?

He's probably saying while it's fine to discuss that, it's prudent to be careful not to get the thread going really off-track.

Well... Since this is a thread, not a sub-forum, we have to discuss characters, plot and other importants things here. And the death of animals, and how humans deal with this is part of the plot. Plus I suppose it is the intention of the author to make the readers think about these serious stuff.
