Hey all, I thought I’d write a little about where ToG is now and wonder what you guys think.

Generally a story has a beginning, a middle, and an end. Loosely I define the beginning as establishing the story, introducing the main characters, and defining the rough path the main characters will take. This is easily the most fun stage - everything is new, analysis is furious as readers try to understand what things mean, and there is so much potential.

The middle is where most concepts have been introduced and typically the main characters are driven almost entirely by plot. There’s not as much world building anymore and likely here the main character is presented with a moral or other difficult choice that needs to be resolved before the end. I feel the gravitas of the middle and the ability to hold the readers is driven by the quality of that conflict.

The end. Arguably the hardest part of the work, as very little is introduced and as things wrap up expectations can be high. Often fans are disappointed, so much so it seems that the purpose of this arc is to minimize disappointment. In particular this depends upon how satisfying the resolution to the problem in the Middle is solved.

In ToG the beginning was certainly part 1. It has a distinctive feel from the rest of ToG and contains most of the world building. The middle can be arguably started at the beginning of Part 2 or perhaps as late as the end of the Workshop battle (since Bam and Co were reunited and the Thorn was introduced). I believe the conflict for Bam and his friends have not been presented yet though in this arc it seems that SIU is getting close to presenting them. Some are obvious (Androssi, Yuri) whereas others are less so (Bam, Wangnan). Perhaps they won’t all come at once, but it feels like everything is coming to a head.

I am still personally enjoying ToG but I am finding it harder to find things to analyze. It feels like the beginning of Part 2 for some reason. When I first read that arc I hated it, but looking back it really fits (though I never really liked the initial Hoaquin arc and still don’t...). I am hoping I feel the same about this arc. Sure there’s lots going on, but it doesn’t feel as satisfying, almost like getting a prize I didn’t earn - perhaps looking back it will fit really nicely.

How do you guys feel about where we are in ToG? Do you feel things are fun? I noticed discussions here are quieter - perhaps people are just busy but I wonder if interest in the manwah is waning.

Mine ebbs and flows from episode to episode. I was really into things on the Hidden Floor, but a bit less so right now. I'm just not the biggest fan of (High) Ranker hype sequences like this one and the Floor of Death.

I feel like we are still on the development of background. We first had a small intro in this fantasy World. That was part 1.

Now we are on part 2 which so Far consists on introducing the story that happens on this fantasy World we were introduced to on part 1.

Part 3 Will certainly have important events and revelations. There likely Will be crossroads and many open choices being presented to Bam, with its pros and cons.

Part 4 Will be Bam making his choices and accomplishing his goals, probably in some unexpected manner.

I'm having Fun. I think SIU is taking his time. That's good.

Well, in general this arc does feel weaker than the previous one. But I would argue that is mostly because SIU has spent way too much time setting things up. Usually 10 chapters worth of setup do not allow for things to stay interesting. And this arc doesn't seem like it will last long either. Add to that that regular enemies don't seem like much of a threat to the gang OR you have rankers that look like they could easily nuke the gang... So even fitting the gang in the arc is awkward at this point.

As far as the story having a berlingo, a middle and an end... SIU set up the story in that regard at the start. We have a tower, 134 floors. Bam has to climb them and realize whatever fate SIU has in store for him. Bam is currently at floor 44. We have a princess arc incoming, there is stuff at floor 77 to consider, floor 100 seems relevant... Bam will likely meet enryu at some point as well. And bam's growth from this point onward is likely to be exponentially faster than before. Heck, it shouldn't surprise us in the least if current bam is substantially stronger than bam from when they left the hidden floor.

That said, I am enjoying the story in general. Its just that... the past few chapters don't give that much to talk about.

SIU said this arc marks the beginning of Baam VS Zahard. There is still plenty of times, I am fine with the pacing. This manhwa will be pretty long. Many fans found the beginning of the HF arc boring at first.

All chapters can't be super exciting.

Hmm. I feel like we're in a good place with ToG right now.

I've said this before but I think SIU has made some mistakes along the way. Part 1 was rock solid. He developed a group of characters. Told a great story. Then in Part 2, he tried to do the same thing over again. Which worked at first but then we tried it bring it all together it became kind of a mess. Then, during the Hell Train, he really turned things around. Ever since ToG has been a going full steam.

That said some of what he's doing now isn't as intensely interesting as the Hidden Floor stuff was but how could it be without Zahard or Eduan or the mysterious mcguffin they were chasing.

Straight combat chapters are never going to be able to compete with that. Especially without a really compelling villain which we haven't seen that yet. I'm sure these characters that are defending the station are strong and all but they all have the stink of fodderdom on them. Until bigger guns arrive I'm not really being wow'd by this ranker battles. Yuri is always awesome but nobody else gives me that "wow" feeling. I'm sure that will change when the bigger guns start arriving though.

I have some specific issues but overall TOG is probably the best shonen genre work i have read so far. I think the plot is as good as it gets so i am fine with it.
However as Bam is now exposed(almost i guess) to Tower as irregular and to Zahard as V and Arlene's son things will be changing a lot. The happy go lucky adventurer with some responsibilty and handicap will not work any more. They have to be on run always, with Koon in that state i am curious how SIU wants to proceed.
