Fair enough.
Intelligence has not much or close to nothing to do with the Mental stat

One's "mentality" does not necessarily have to have anything to do with their "intelligence." It's just their state of mind/being.

I think Akutsu Tohno, number 8, has a sick technique. The times we've seen him hit a tennis ball, Konomi's done it a slick but intense black tone to illustrate a hyper-speeding, beaming ball.

Mentioned this before too.
Im excited. You mean Atsukyo* btw.
You heard it from me guys, Tohno and Kimijima ftw against Kite/Marui.

I dont see Tohno and Kimijima losing. Top 8 arent going to suck like Mouri Juzaburo did. He was awful.
He returned ZSS just the once and dislocated his arm for a shot that didnt even go in. Absolute second-extra-button-that-came-with-a-shirt-kinda-guy.
How dare he talk of challenging the Rikkai big 3. What a joke. Big disappointment.

I dont see Tohno disappointing that's for sure. Hakamada and Ochi didnt even complain at the shot hurled at them, and they are AWESOME.
So he has to be even better.

I don't think of Mouri as disappointing, really. Dislocating his arm is pretty badass things to do. It also confirm my thought about what an awesome tech Atobe Kingdom is.

Returning ZSS is nothing is snuff at. The only two player who could return that shot at the end of PoT is probably Yukimura and Sanada. And Sanada only return it by using a tech that he doesn't used against Yukimura for some reason I do not know.

Mouri was just Ochi's shadow. Despite his boastings, he would never beat any of the Rikkai 3, including the severely underestimated Renji.

Yeah, KaRinRai was never explained and Sanada hasn't used it since he returned ZSS. I think Konomi just needed to think of a way for Sanada to beat the last card in Tezuka's hand. That was the first time it was returned, and the first time it was shown to need to scrape the ground with your racquet to return it. I guess after that Konomi realized you didn't need all that extra stuff.

I still don't get how it's possible (at least for us) to discuss about Mental, with the only definition of "How much someone is affected by the opponent's actions". Since the first episode of PoT, in 95% of the matches everyone gives it all, everyone feels pressure sometimes, and half of them (most of the times Seigaku's players) evolve during gameplay.

Only Konomi knows Mental then.

Renji was underetimated due to having "problem" with no 17. Mouri is no 10.

I think the only reason Renji really lost to No. 17 was because it wasn't just any other player - Mitsuya was literally his master. He knew Renji's data in and out. I think if it was any other player, like Hakamada or something, Renji would've won.

The same way Inuit should have lost to his master, Renji, right?

Renji and Inui were always said to be even in terms of skill. Mitsuya is the one who taught Renji and had more experience playing tennis than him. Nice try, though.

And Top 20 all most likely had more experiences in tennis than any of their MS challengers. Yet they all lost. Yes, I'm even counting the spotlight match. If spotlight fall on you, you'll go to the hospital, meaning you will have to forfeit the match anyways.

Inui beat Renji. Renji can't beat Mitsuya. That's all there is to it. I don't see how Renji can't used the same reason to make Inui's winning % 0% too.

Mitsuya probably has higher bases than Renji. Inui and Renji probably have around the same stats. Mitsuya had all of Renji's data and no data on Inui whereas Inui did have a fair amount of data on Mitsuya. Inui and Renji have complete data of each other.

It's pretty clear that those situations are all different.

Yes, so Mitsuya>Renji/Inui (If they all have no data of each other). And Mouri>Mitsuya. I'm using Mitsuya to stated that DESPITE how weak Mouri look because of his lack of tech, his base is still high enough to beat Renji, which is my point in the previous page. So...?

I have been hated on time and time again for my views on Renji, but I am relieved to see Kaoz and brandnewkid "get it." When you bring data players into the equation, it changes EVERYTHING about how you are supposed to look at ability level. It is precisely this reason why this statement is false:

-Ken- said:

That isn't all there is to it because they are DATA players. Maybe if they were a normal player like everyone else, that would be true. However, like I said, data players need to have an entirely different overview.

Mitsuya > Renji because of tennis and data mastership, therefore the person who has the MOST chance of beating Renji with data, is Mitsuya (Because he taught Renji data tennis). Mitsuya knows Renji better than Renji knows Mitsuya, giving Mitsuya the edge over Renji (hence the 0% chance of Renji winning).

Renji > (or =) Inui because of tennis partnership and data mastership, therefore the person who has the MOST chance of beating Inui with data, is Renji (Because he taught Inui data tennis). However there is also an element of "=" because they were partners, so Inui knows Renji just as well as Renji knows Inui, so nobody has an edge in terms of overall data (hence the 50% chance of winning).

Given this information, there is nothing to compare between Inui and Mitsuya, because the only thing they both have in common is Renji. When you take Renji out of the equation, you do not have an equation. Inui was observing Mitsuya the whole time and Mitsuya just played two full matches, which means Inui automatically has the advantage to win with both data and stamina. This in NO way suggests that if Inui beats Mitsuya, that means Inui is better than Renji. Inui has an edge on Renji when it comes to playing against Mitsuya specifically. However, if you take Mitsuya out of the equation, Renji would defeat way more tennis players in PoT than Inui would simply because of ability level.

Inui was never a top tier character (nor ever declared to be, outside of doubles partnership with Renji), but Renji is. Renji has been directly established to be one of the best players in the entire series because of the Rikkai 3. In fact, the only time you hear about Renji losing a match, it was against Sanada (because of "Rin"). Outside of Rikkaidai, there are not many people better than him. He has always been captain level. Yukimura, Sanada, and Renji were always captain level, which is why Rikkaidai was absurdly strong. They basically had three captains. During the Kantou tournament, nobody but Inui was strong enough to beat Renji. Everyone but Rikkaidai SUCKED in Kantou. Fuji, Atobe, Tachibana, Tezuka (gimped Kantou version), etc. would/should all logically lose to Renji. This is why Konomi ran into a problem with creating the Kantou finals. "Uh oh, nobody on Seigaku has the ability to play against the Rikkai 2. That means Hax boy needs to play Sanada, and Renji needs to play against someone who just happens to be an extremely knowledgeable former doubles partner in order to make it fair."

This is why the Kantou finals were so unrealistic in all singles matches. Rikkaidai was better in EVERY match-up, so logically, Rikkaidai should have won. Everything as it stood (power levels of players, etc) got all messed up simply because Seigaku had to be written to win the match. THAT is where the problem of misplacing ability levels comes from.

I do not overestimate Renji. The general inclination is to SEVERELY underestimate Renji. So when someone comes along with an average canon estimate of Renji, it appears to be an overstatement. That's only because the standard bar for which we view Renji, as a whole, has been lowered by like 10 notches.

This.

Plus, you have to remember that it is heavily implied that if Renji did not play Mitsuya, the data master, first and gave Inui the chance to gather data on him, Inui would've lost too. Remember, Inui's chances of winning weren't 100%, not 55%, but a mere 33.1%. Not even half. Inui's win against Mitsuya is a testament to Inui's skill as a player.

Actually I think I misinterpreted Ken's point. I thought we went on a tangent regarding the data matches, I don't think that Renji > Mouri is necessarily true though.

Hm, going by the assumption that the MS are being paired up with HS counterparts, can we assume that while Tohno plays bloody tennis ala Hakamada, Kimijima, the "Genius Boy," plays a very technique-based game of tennis like Marui? Marui's known for being a genius because of his "Finesse" ("Myogi" / "Fanciful Skills") that leave the audience and the opponents on the edge of their seats. So, maybe Kimijima can ... walk on air, or something. What I'm saying is, we can assume that Kimijima's technique is very high.

@Fayte

It's funny how you stated NOT to use POT1 as a basis for anything, but then go ahead and ONLY use POT1 as basis for the points here.

REGARDLESS of what he is in POT1, in POT2, he lost against no 17.

I just don't see how Renji fail to get his data from Mitsuya and Inui get his data from Renji. Mitsuya is most likely better at hiding the data, through.

The reason that things sounds strange here because you won't admit Inui on being same level as Renji. But he is, maybe not in POT1, but in SPoT at least he is. This is why I don't disagree with other saying that Inui and Renji are on the same level. I think he is as well. You clearly don't think so, though.

If you read the context of when I said this, you'd know this does not apply. The rules of Data tennis are the same in both PoT1 and PoT2 because Data tennis itself is no different. Data tennis does not get upgrades or change at all, therefore it would be silly to NOT assume it is the same as PoT1.

I just don't see how Renji fail to get his data from Mitsuya and Inui get his data from Renji. Mitsuya is most likely better at hiding the data, through.
I don't understand what your point is.

Saying Inui and Renji are on "the same level" is very misleading. They are equal in terms of facing against one another, but not against anybody else. Inui would NOT have beaten Kirihara like Renji did. He just simply wouldn't have. End of story. He got sent to the hospital the last time he tried. This is proof that Inui vs Data player is a TOTALLY different ball game than Inui vs non-data player. This is true for ALL data players. Data vs Data is on a separate scale than Data vs Non-Data. The game is played completely differently.

At the end of the match, it is very much highly suggest that Inui have gotten complete data of the devil mode, no longer leaving Kirihara to have any chance of repeating the same thing happening again without an upgrade. And the upgrade Kirihara happen to get can only be use in double with Shiraishi as his partner. And this upgrade also is not confirm to have any other effect other than not life threatening.

Now, Inui have clearly gotten much stronger post camp training. All of your assumption is made on the basis that the tier will always remain and unchanged, and no matter how much one player improve, another player will simply improve at the same rate. But I don't think we can look at it like that. If a character get an upgrade, he might be now above other character.

Inui has clearly gotten data from Renji match. But MItsuya can clearly get data mid match like Inui have ALWAYS done if he want. But Renji and Mitsuya both doesn't to be able to collect mid match data. The ONLY data player that is confirm to be able to collect data mid match is Inui. That gotta says something.

If this is the beginning of SPoT, I might agree that Renji>Inui. But right now, I'll call them even at best, or perhaps Inui even being a bit stronger. But this is pretty much dead horse argument, so let's just agree to disagree. I remember seeing other members on this arguments from times to times on various topics of this forum. Some think like you, some think ilke me. So it's just a waste of time.
