I must apologize for yelling at all the people who suggested time skip. seems one piece just became another one of the generic mangas.

on another note, this sucks, 4 weeks of no one piece!

XD A timeskip makes it generic? Well, I suppose that depends on what sort of border you have between "generic" and "classic". I still trust Oda sensei to deliver an entertaining and awesome manga, time skip or not. The real life "time skip" makes me panicky though T_T I mean, I practically keep time with One Piece XD My internal clock's going to be completely off.

And, back on topic, why does the training each crew member go through have to make them physically stronger? As plenty of characters in OP have proven, in quite a few situations, creativity is more valuable than raw strength.

Well, in regards of Robin, I was talking with friend about fruits and stuff. The thing is, Robin can generate any part of her body to any place, so we could assume that she can generate her whole body "multiple" Robin ???
Also, she could generate another whole body and teleport to that part and dissolve the starting body??

Usopp, he just need to grow some balls o.o

Sanji... I just cheer for the underdog D:

I don't think a whole new robin would be that much of a powerup. It'd be useful for a number of things but all in all it would not make her significantly stronger. To a great extent, there are twice as many targets in a fight. No idea what sort of powerboost she could go through.....

Not all of the crew's growth will be physical imo. I think Robin will be with the RAs for this time and maybe travel to certain places with them where she could pick up valuable information for herself, the crew and Dragon. Hopefully she'll come across at least one Poneglyph during this time.

I think Heracles the guy thats training Usopp at the moment could be a former Roger pirate since the crew members split to all corners of the world after Roger's execution. It would make a lot of sense for a former crew member to live in such a remote and deadly island to avoid being caught by the WG since they were one of their greatest threats. He's an oldtimer too so just some of my incite to what usopp is getting into maybe

I disagree with that to some extent. There are plenty of ways in which the strawhats could grow and become threats for the government but I do think a level of physical growth is a must. The ability to take, avoid and receive damage and not getting kill in the process is extremely important. Even if a strawhat does not necessarily need extreme physical capacities to fight, he'd certainly need a bare minimum to keep up with certain enemies. I think the strawhats at some point will be seen something like this:
http://www.cloudmanga.com/One_Piece/580/11-12/

Here we see shank's main crewmembers challenging the entire military might of the WG and perhaps other pirates. Now, for shanks crew to pull a threat like that and above all, have the WG take it seriously, what is a basic requirement? I think it is pretty clear each of the crew members shown there is a massively powerful warrior, they are most likely in the league of WB's commanders, they are people who have nothing to fear from enemies like admirals or shichibukai. That said, would it be possible to fight an enemy of that caliber without having at least the physical capacity to dodge an attack? Or in case you do take damage from an enemy like that, wouldn't you at least need the stamina to keep fighting after such damage? For the strawhats to become a truly powerful crew, all of the strawhats need at least a basic level of physical capacities in order to survive the ordeals that are to come. In this case, nami, robin and ussop are specially on the lacking side. They are just about above ordinary humans(ussop can take superhuman amounts of damage though), they are the ones that need the most a physical boost.

I completely agree with kkck, I think the whole crew need a basis to be reaaaaaaaaaaaly strong. We know that Usopp will be the weakest, so I think it will be how we measure the rest of the crew force after this month is over. And I think He needs a minimal control of Haki. Color of Armaments, at least.

You may say that's too much, but we're taking of a crew with 8 people that will be the Pirate King Crew. Nothing less. The Elite of the Seas.

I think you might be right.

Personally, i expect Usopp to come out of his training a complete beast. The nature of the island he is on requires it of him. If that Old timer really is Roger pirate or something then he is going to come off the island capable of taking on a vice admiral.

My other expectation are for...

Zoro to get roughly as strong as Mihawk and Franky to get himself a beam cannon. Beyond that i don't really know what to expect

While I expect the Straw Hats to be exponentially stronger (so that nobody gets curb stomped like Luffy at Marineford) I also expect Oda to have a bit more tact than overpowering them. There's no fun in having super strong protagonists. So I think they'd have to be at a level where the New World is a challenge, but not a threat.

IMO, Given the monster trio skills & personality:
- Zoro will probably mainly master color of armaments. Color of observation will come in second
- Sanji will probably mainly master color of observation. Color of armaments will come in second.
- Luffy will master color of the conqueror & color of armaments & I don't see Luffy mastering color of observation anytime soon. He's not the type to wait/observe his opponent too much anyway.

I don't see either Sanji or zoro control Haoshoku haki after the two year time skip. IMO, that haki should be reserved to leaders ...

We have seen that haki is released under strong emotions. So, I wouldn't be surprised to see Usopp unleash color of armaments while being completely frightened. It would fit Usopp's character to be able to use his full potential only when he is scared to death.

I don't think overpowering will be a big issue. For one thing, currently the strawhats are fodder, they are worthless rookies who got ahead of themselves and almost got killed before even reaching the NW. Luffy incapable of surviving in the front lines of the war by himself is more than enough to show how helplessly weak he is when compared to the world. Basically, right now the strawhats most likely could not even match up against and average NW pirate crew. Considering within two years you can only grow so much, I doubt the strawhats will get to a level where they could be considered overpowered. Currently the NW is controlled by the yonkou but I doubt they can be considered the only strong pirates around. I would bet there are plenty of pirates who could actually match a yonkou in a fight but lack the military might to go up against one or simply does not make a move due to fear of both sides obliterating each other. I mean, going up against WB for instance was not just a matter of fighting WB alone. You had to get past 16 commanders, each of whom could easily match a shichibukai or an admiral in a fight. Then after that there were still 1600 crewmembers who'd I think were no rookies and even after that you have to deal with crews affiliated with WB, which as we saw were all famous pirates and most likely each captain at least had enough strength to match that of a commander. Getting to such a position is not easy and even matching WB's strength is not enough to be a threat to such an army. The strawhats will grow strong, enough to not be considered rookies anymore but not to the point were pirate crews of the NW, marines or shichibukai won't be a threat to them. Even now they'd be leagues away from really powerful pirates IMO (even if considerably closer than what they are now).

Well, raileight had the conqueror's haki and he was still just a VC in rogers crew. I could see zoro having that too. IMO he will definitely have conqueror's haki, zoro is not really inferior to luffy when it comes to willpower and he has shown a leaderlike disposition in the crew from time to time (for instance, when ussop quit the crew).

I hope no one is thinking anyone will master haki after 2 years

i think sanji will get basic/ better than luffy observational haki just because he has to know where those okama who are constantly chasing him are

Zoro might get basic armour haki little better than what luffy learns and basic observation haki

Luffy will get basic both more towards armour but not as good as Zoro and use his own 3rd haki
im not too sure if everyone has a 3rd haki but different colour to that of the king

1 SH to 1 Buster Call? What do you mean by that? They certainly wouldn't be able to take on a Buster Call singled out. Remember, it's lead by 5 Vice Admirals with 10 battleships. They only managed to escape last time.

Lucci was said to be capable of surviving a buster call on his own, I could see either zoro or luffy pulling that on their own too. The buster call is indeed lead by 5 VA but that does not mean you actually fight the 5 VA during it. The VA remain in their battleships, they don't actually fight directly. I don't think the strawhats would currently be capable of taking a VA though.

Zorro for me HAS to mainly be Armament, considering his ability to get lost to easily colour of observation just doing make any sort of sense.

Ursop going the other way should be exception as observation, being a sniper his vision must be top notch.

The rest are not so obvious in my opinion, I could throw stuff out there but it would all be guess work :)

I CANNOT WAIT DAMN YOU LACK OF TIME TRAVEL MACHINES!

Wonder what other applications the observation bit could have. Roger was said to have the power to listen all things and whatnot, perhaps that had something to do with haki. Perhaps his ability with observation was such that he could capture things from the past or at least the gist of them.

Nami would benefit from observation haki. I think it could be useful with predicting the weather.
Chopper would also benefit from observation haki. I think it could have uses with his medicine.
Franky would be an armament type IMO. I don't think he'd benefit from observation haki more than the average person.
Robin would be a observation haki primarily. If roger's ability to listen to all things was haki related, she could benefit from it for obvious reasons.
Sanji would be balanced between observation and armor. The lastest arcs have hardly shown it but he is fairly clever and a decent strategist (check arabasta and water 7). He'd benefit equally from both types of haki. Perhaps observation would help him spy on women without getting caught though.
IMO zoro will develop kings haki with time. I think he has the attitude for that. Apart from that he'd benefit most from armor type haki.
Brook would probably be an armor type mostly, after all he is a swordsman. It's be interesting if he can boost his music with haki.
Ussop would benefit from observation haki obviously. With it, he'd be able to hit targets he can't properly see.

Of course, I don't think all the strawhats will develop haki over the timeskip. I think at least zoro and luffy will and there is a good chance sanji will too. The rest will develop it as they advance through the grand line.

Survive? Of course. Defeat? Err, I dunno. It's kinda anti-climatic for the Navy's strongest attack (short of all out war like in Marineford) to be able to be beaten singlehandedly.
