Hi,
I didn´t know where to send this email, so I sent it to the only mail I found on the manga :P
on page 8 on chapter 324 the name is translated from katakana as pinzaguda, in spanish pinza is pincer and aguda means sharp,
so the translation to english of the name would be something like sharp pincer.

Pinzaguda would correctly be translated as sharp pincer/claw. Since in portuguese/spanish aguda means sharp (and sometimes pointy).

Hello.
I'm one of the readers of you scanilations and I grateful for all the work your group puts into their work, so I though I might help you out with something.

In one of your recent releases Bleach 324 the translater seemed to have some trouble with a term on page 8. While I am entirely unfamiliar with katakana spanish is my native language. The tranlater's note says that the katakana reads "pinzaguda". Then he goes on to state that. as with many parts of the series. this is a spanish word; pinza = pincer.

While correct he was unable to translate the rest. In spanish "aguda" is a musical term which literaly translates into english as "sharp" (ie a sharp C note as opposed to a flat C note). If my interpretation is accurate the katakana term should read as "sharp pincer" (the action in the next two pages lends credence to this interpretation.)

Anyway just hope this helps. Thanks for your time and please keep up the good work.

Hello! i noticed how your scan had a translator note about the "Pinzaguda" meaning that "pinza" means pincer, as for "guda" part it could mean "aguda" in spanish, wich is sharp and pointy, referering to a wordplay pinza+aguda= pinzaguda (pointy pincer) other word that might fit could be "aguja (needle)" thats sounds like "aguda" if you use it with pincer could be something like: pinza de aguja (needle pincer)

Im from Costa Rica and my native language is spanish, but i dont know japanese but i do know a lot about both english and spanish so if you are having problems with release of any of the espadas let me know and i might shed some light on the problem

just to wrap it up, some options for the release of the "exacta" are:

pinza aguda / pinzaguda (pointy pincer)
pinza de aguja (needle pincer)

I'm writing you about the name of the arancar Findoll Carrias release: Pinzaguda.
As you said: pinza means pincer in Spanish and aguda means sharp.
The authors joined the two word to form the name Pinzaguda.

There's just one thing about that site – it doesn't provide any romanisation, so it expects you to at least learn hiragana before you get on to any grammar. Which personally I think is a good idea anyway, but it might put some people off (Particularly as the site itself doesn't really provide much help when it comes to learning the kana. I'd recommend this site for learning the kana. It's the one I used back when I first started, and I found it very effective.)

wah.. i also using that site to learn hiragana... i agree it's very effective... the tip or clue that they given sometime very funny and make me easier to remember..
btw, some question regarding reading japanese.
i notice sometime in the sentence there have the word tsu (つ）. What is the purpose of that word actually?
i know that the small tsu can combine the word for example まった (matta). but when i try to read the manga in japanese it doesn't seem that way though. is there any other purpose that the word tsu can represent?
1 more question. the different that i notice from english word and japanese word is that i cannot recognize where is the start letter or the end letter of that word... there have no spacing.. is there any indication so i can search in the dictionary what is the meaning of that word?

Well, the unusual っ you're talking about is probably the use of the character at the end of a sentence. In essence, the っ character represents a cutting-off of airflow; a sharp "silence" after a vowel. So when used at the end of a sentence (or indeed, as it's commonly used, after a sound, such as 「あっ！」), it represents that the sound before is cut off sharply, with a glottal stop. (The same logic works for its standard usage, in the middle of words; the silence manifests as a gap before the following consonant is released.) Probably the closest English equivalent would be a dash, as in "Ah - !", or "Why did you - ", indicating a similar "cutting-off" effect, though the two aren't necessarily used in quite the same ways.

As for distinguishing the beginnings and endings of words in Japanese, well, it's easy enough; you just have to recognise the patterns involved. The main indication of boundaries is switching between the different writing systems. So, most obviously, when you see a section of text in katakana, that's obviously separate from the non-katakana text surrounding it (well, in the vast majority of cases, anyway). Likewise, a switch from kana to kanji pretty much always indicates the start of a word.

Failing that, it's just about recognising the common structures. So whenever you see を, you know straight away that whatever comes before it is the sentence object and what comes after is separate; likewise ninety-five percent of the time any は is going to be a topic marker. It's also easy enough to see where verbs end, because they always end in an "u" character (most commonly る; indeed that's another case where ninety-five percent of occurrences of that character are going to be the end of a verb). As long as you can recognise those sorts of basic patterns, the text just naturally divides itself up for the most part.

since you are one piece fan like me, what do you think about how rayleigh can stop the kizaru attack? the similar thing happen on how luffy's grandfather can hurt Luffy with his fist? they seem can nullify the power of devil fruit. if i not mistaken, sentoumaru (the one with broadaxe) can hurt luffy also with his fist. does every devil fruit power have weakness? like on how luffy fight with crocodile by using water and blood?
i wonder how oda would answer this question...

Hallo~ :3 Have been a huge fan of your translations, since god knows, thought I'd drop by to say thanks. ^^ I've been going to a center for Japanese lessons part-time, and I've always been amazed at your translations; it kinda gets me motivated to study it better. I use your translations to compare to my own (sad ^^") attempts.

Well, I think what it comes down to is we're going to have to wait for Oda's explanation... but I don't think it's anything to do with a specific weakness of Kizaru's. I don't see how Rayleigh could've been using some kind of weakness of light, even assuming such a thing exists. I doubt that every Fruit has a specific weakness, anyway; it's just luck of the draw (besides which, they all have water and Kairouseki as weaknesses, which should really be more than enough).

Presumably it's either the Haki ability that he demonstrated before, or something similar; some new kind of ability that Oda hasn't properly explained to us yet. I'm sure it will be, though, in time...

Well, I've seen HOLiC RAWs, and they're without furigana. Thus, I am amazed at how you're still able to translate. *o* I am failing terribly at picking up kanji; they escape the mind of a simpleton such as myself. :< Tch, and to think, I encounter only this after learning quite a bit of Japanese; it'll be a waste to just give up. がんばります！

Yeah, the lack of furigana in HOLiC does slow me down a little, but it's no big deal; I can recognise plenty, and those I don't, I can always just look up.

As for passing a test... well, uh, does passing the first two years of my course at Sheffield University over here count? Though I'm going to have to sit another one, like, as soon as I get there, so they know which Japanese language class to place me in... I'd really better brush up on my kanji for that ~_~ (It would certainly be humiliating if I ended up in a lower-level class than my friend who's going out there with me ~~)

I figured something like that would occur, I once inquired about pursuing my studies to Japan; it included a compulsory one year's worth of Japanese lessons, before they'll allow me to go through the four-year course itself. And that's only if I pass; I'd need a JLPT Level 2, at least. But I'm sure you'll do fine, translating manga chapters serves as practice, でしょう？　How long will you be in Kyoto?

While I'm out in Kyoto, I'll be on the KUINEP program, which is their program for overseas students in general. So I'll be taking classes in all sorts of odd things (in English ), as well as lessons in the Japanese language. (Although I do believe my home university only cares whether or not I pass the language part... so I can fail all the rest and it wouldn't even matter ^^)

Eh, you'd be surprised. If I did have to pass all of those, I'd be panicking like crazy about now. Frankly, just having to study it is bad enough even if I don't have to pass it ~_~ Studying language is one thing, but when it comes to studying things like history, culture, literature, all that kind of thing... I just can't handle it >_<

And of course, I'm already going to be panicking way more than enough thanks to the goddamn Year Abroad Project...

Well, personally? I wouldn't bother translating it. And indeed I didn't. Because SFX just don't translate well ~_~

Bu~t if I was going to translate it, I guess I'd just have to go with "stre~~~tch" (unsatisfying but accurate), or perhaps something like "boyo~~~ing" (not sure how appropriate it really is, but sounds nicer). I'd probably just stick with the former.
