12 minutes seems kinda interesting - like some Groundhog Day, Source Code, murder mystery thing

Super short trailer, but the idea and the aesthetics seem pretty solid to me
It was an interesting trailer, but it's an Annapurna game, so 95% chance it'll be an EGS exclusive. Nearly every new game they've put out - Ashen, Outer Wilds, the PC Journey port, are all EGS games. Meh.

Wasteland 3 was a nice surprise, and it looks like Dying Light 2 will be on Steam, so I feel a bit relieved.

Was hoping to see more from Elden Ring, but I guess the leaks being confirmed is nice.

Was just looking at this...

...and noticed that the little owl's wing is damaged, and that they're only flying because they have a big feather tied to the wing. :(

Went back to last year's E3 trailer, and noticed that it had always been that way, but just never quite picked up on it, but it's pretty obvious now in the 'learning to fly' sequence.

(Gameplay progression, I wonder? Maybe you have to get that feather for them before they are able to fly you around?)

Looking forward to hearing more of this soundtrack...

Apparently Project Scarlet is going to support up to 120 fps, 8K resolutions, and ray-tracing?

What? That can't possibly be at the same time. And even if it was one of them at once, how is that going to be affordable? lol

It almost certainly isn't. I honestly, don't know why these consoles are talking about 8k.

A) Who even has an 8k TV?
B) How big would the TV have to be for you to actually notice the difference?
C) The file size for an 8k texture has got to be nightmarish. Just stupidly huge.

On the upside though I love that both consoles are talking about 120fps gaming. That's such a huge difference. Far more so than resolution, IMO.

They do sell them, but they're insanely expensive and not much media actually supports them yet. Gaming monitors have had the same issues lately with the processing technology not actually catching up with the types of displays being put out.

Even the revision consoles from this generation weren't capable of handling most of the more demanding games at 60 fps, so I'm pretty damn skeptical about 120. I'm sure some games will be capable of doing it, but not sure how many of them will be AAA games. Honestly, I'd be surprised if any of them are capable of that... I guess that's why they stressed "up to 120 fps".

I know they exist but I kind of question whether that's actually a better technology. The issue with resolutions after a certain point is pixel density right?

Like with PC monitors resolution matters more because your closer to the screen generally.

Ideally you want the right resolution for the size of screen your using and how far away your viewing it from. Like lets say you have a 32 inch TV that you tend to view from about 6-8 feet away. After a certain point the resolution doesn't matter because they human eye can't distinguish it. For 8k the screen size necessary for that to matter has got to be like 60-70 inches. Under that I question if people would even be able to tell.

Finally got around to watching the Bethesda conference (well, skipping all the filler to get to the games)

It was a bit meh

Ghostwire Tokyo looks kinda interesting - and DOOM Eternal looks to be pretty much more of the same - but other than those 2, there was really little of note.
I guess that ORION could be interesting, but I'm super wary of game streaming tech (until I can test it, at least).

Oh and they really need to just accept reality and take Fallout 76 out back and put it out of its misery

I'm definitely super-pumped for Elden Ring, but I wonder how they're going to be different from Dark Souls franchise this time. From the setting alone, I am assuming that the game is going to be a lot closer to the Dark Souls franchise rather than Bloodborne or Sekiro, combat or world-wise.

Super-excited for Cyberpunk 2077 too, I pre-ordered it. Hopefully we can pre-order Baldur's Gate III soon.

Oh by the way, how's the PC port for Octopath Traveler, I wonder if anyone here knows something about it? I've been interested in playing the game since it was released but it was too costly for a Switch game so I am glad they ported it to PC.

I haven't picked it up because there is a pretty good chance I will buy a Switch when Fire Emblem: Three Houses comes out (unless there is no romance... in which case F that). So I figured I'd play it then. Looks fun as hell though.

Also want to say I'm very impressed with the new Xbox first party acquisitions. inExile, Obisdian, and Double Fine. That's a huge influx of talent. As long as they don't wreck everything like they did before that's going to provide a lot of potentially amazing microsoft games.

I've heard some good things - though I'm really the wrong person to judge, as I hate that kind of turn-based combat system

FPS hasn't even been a selling point for consoles until this generation's revisions maybe. I guess with 100 inch 8K televisions existing, they think absurd resolution capability is as much of a selling point as other things. Which is fine I guess, if it's doable. Don't really know the math on being able to run games at 8k at even 30fps, but certain console games will even go below 30fps already at points as well even below 4K resolutions... so idk

But like I mentioned previously, I'm still confused at how any of those specs translate into such consoles being affordable.

I was interested in Deathloop, Arkane's new game. I'm a bit confused as to whether it's a multiplayer game or not, which is somewhat disappointing given their history of making good singleplayer games.

What do you mean? You're not hyped for Fallout BR? :kappa I guess "finishing" games post release is still better than not finishing them at all. Wonder if Bioware will ever get around to doing that for Anthem, which got all of 2 minutes during EA Play.

I wanted it for the Switch but physical copies were all sold out. I'm curious about it for PC, but it's a joke that they're charging $60 for it. Everything I've seen suggests that it's not worth the full AAA price.

A lot longer than what they showed during the PC Gaming Show
--- Double Post Merged, ---

Ubisoft was pretty bad. Nothing new about Beyond Good and Evil 2, no new Splinter Cell, and nothing about the rumored Norse-based Assassin's Creed. Pretty much everything was already announced or leaked, outside of maybe Gods of Monsters, which sort of looked like a Breath of the Wild Clone.

Watchdogs Legion looked kind of funny, playing as old people... but idk, it's still a bland Ubisoft open-world game so I'll probably pass.

So is Assassin's Creed going to not be an annual franchise now? Don't get me wrong I'd be fine with that.

What I'd really like to see is for the next Assassin's Creed continue what Odessy started and just become a full blow RPG franchise. That's kind of already what Odessy was but if they come out with essentially Assassin's Creed: Skyrim. If they could just ditch the dumb modern day tie in stuff that would be kind of an amazing game.

Also looks like the new Borderlands 2 DLC is out and free.

Going to have fun playing with that.

I guess they could be saving it for Gamescom. But since there are hints in other Ubisoft games regarding the next one, you'd think they'd have something to show.

Got to love the irony of giving out a free DLC tie-in to a game you can't even buy on the platform you're playing it on. :feelsbadman

Everyone does kind of know what's coming. It's just a matter of when. Still I hope they are giving it maximum time required. Because, while I'm not an Assassin's Creed guy, if that franchise becomes Witcher-esque in terms of story quality and depth. I will change my tune real fast. Even if they keep the dumb overarching story.

Yeah, that's awkward. Still free is free. And it's on steam so it feels a little like an olive branch.

Haven't the games kind of already been like that since Origins? I remember people remarking on them clearly trying to take advantage of Witcher's success when they took time off after Syndicate's failure and relaunched it. There's no modern component to the story anymore since then either iirc.

I mean, I'm not sure I see it that way. Free is free, but it's a bit of a cynical move on their part IMO. But I guess trying to get people to pay for BL2 again on EGS just to play it doesn't make much sense either.

They are getting closer. At it's core it's Odessy was still an "Ubisoft Game" and I'm hoping they can get past that. They played with things like love interests and player agency and playing more of a "role" in story in a different way the they typical action stealth game way.

There are things they could do in a Norse setting that I think would really take the next step in all of that.

The Epic Games deal is signed. There's no going back on that 6 months of exclusivity on PC. However, they could have charged for this. I would have paid $15 to play it. Instead they are giving it away to get some positive buzz for Borderlands 3. And I think they'll get it.

Say what you will about their platform decisions on PC but a free DLC like this is pretty cool.
