A-ha ha ha ha ha *frown*

I was out running today and my god I'm not really in such good condition as I thought. Did some nice work-out too and I guess I'll be back in my "old" me in ~4months.

I can run for fun like when I'm playing sports or something, but ever since my injury I lost all the stamina I once had. I can run but not long distances and if I run for a while I'll be out of breathe easily. Its not even about my leg hurting, because it doesn't when i run, its just that I that whole year without being able to be as active as I was set me far back in terms of my bodies metabolism and respiration. I moved on from the running for now and am just sticking to the weight lifting. If I had a bike I would substitute my lack of running with bike riding this way I'd get something in, but I have other financial things to worry about and I need to get a car first before I can spend on the luxury of a bike. Plus running isn't as appealing to me as weight lifting and bike riding so its a harder thing for me to push myself to do because I'm not a fan of doing it. In order for me to run I would need to be happy and motivated to do it and that I'm just not there in regards to it.

I've always had that doesn't seem to go away is the difference in size from my right to my left arm. My question for discussion is if anyone else has had the same problem. That no matter what they do one bicep and/or tricep on one arm ends up being smaller in size to your stronger more dominant arm (in my case the right). I've tried many things. I tried more weight for my left arm to try and get it stronger if I'm curling, and that didn't work. Right now what I do is I keep trying to do more reps with my left arm every work out and its the best results I've had yet they are not the ones I want. My left arm will always be weaker than my right and I know that but I don't want it to be noticeable.
Yes, I have the same problem. The difference is that I'm right-handed, but my left arm is fisically more developed and has practically half bigger bicep. And nothing can change it)) Not even the hard training.:) I'm thinking now that it is a fisical speciality of a body. And I have the same with the whole body. The left part has more muscle mass than the right.

wow, just a random thing but

apparently coconut water contains more electrolytes than most sports drinks and has higher potassium than banana, so it is better if you drink this while working out. :thumbs

Both have their own purposefulness. I can't say which one should be better. You can use variations of push ups. The variations serve different purpose, e.g., by putting your hands together (in a diamond shape), its good for your triceps and back. Similar variations are also done through bench press. I guess, with bench press, so you can do more weights or something.

Bench press is by far superior to push ups. By doing bench press you use far more of your overall body, and the strain is far stronger (assuming you train at a decent weigth level). It's good to do some push ups here and there, and be good at it. But in actual training doing bench press is much, much better. The only actual push up version I'd recommend for actual training is doing a small gripped push ups where your arms are placed under yours man breasts (lol), which is a very good way of training your triceps. This can be done with your hands placed flat on the ground, or with your hands knuckled up (my favorite). Other than that push ups are inferior to other training methods with weigths/wires.

It depends on what you are trying to do. If building massive pecs is your goal then your gonna have to bench because thats the best way to target that specific area. Pushups will not target them the same exact way. Now if your more a cardio person that wants to get some strength training in then pushups is your answer because it puts more strain on your whole body other than just your chest. You need your legs, abdomen, shoulders just to keep your body up. On the way down your stabilizing yourself with your shoulders and triceps and your abs. And then on the way up, the pushup itself your hitting your chest. Pushups themselves end up being great in that they target many areas because you need to stabilize yourself to perform the exorcise while Benching doesn't have as much of a stabilization factor. That being said its not that Benching has no stablizing factor because you still need to keep the barbell in place but since your not stabilizing AS much you get to really target your pecs hardcore with benching. So overall it honestly depends on what your trying to achieve in your work outs which depends on which you will be using. Heck you might as well try doing both, lol.

I'm no good at bench press (I could care less, I'm a girl) but it's better if you use free weights for it rather than some fixed machine that only moves up and down. Because free weights make you use more muscles and you'd achieve shape faster while you're trying to balance the weights.

am I right guys?

But I learned that from Biggest Loser. For other exercises you could stand on one foot instead of both feet so that you use more muscles just to balance yourself.

Well thats what I was getting at that stabilization is a good thing for overall but too much stabilization and your actually taking focus away from targeting a specific muscle as much. Benching with Dumbbells isn't bad but I personally find that Benching with a barbell is better. I dunno I've just always got a better feel from a barbell and there is a good motivational factor too it because you can bench more weight with a barbell than with dumbbells because they are separate and require more stabilization. And with that when you see that your benching that much weight you feel a bit more proud of yourself that you can achieve that and will wanna keep going and push the bar (no pun intended :sweat). So yes the bells are definitely better than a machine but Barbell is the better of the two for targeting your chest muscles themselves. But again it depends on what type of results you want and as a girl you probably don't want massive pecs do dumbbells are a good option for you in that you'll get a good triceps and shoulders work out with the dumbbells as well because of the higher stabilization factor ;).

Congrats on being a hero member truefan.

Cardio is definitely necessary. As the name suggests, it is for your cardio-vascular health. It also burns the fat and excess calories that you take in. It gives you extra wind and increases your stamina. But I read you have to keep cardio exercises and strength exercises on different days so that the cells in your body won't be confused how to use up the energy.

lol, theres a getting in shape thread now? being in good shape is important for mechanics, most of the valves i operate take all my body strength, and have to be opened/closed ASAP. since going underway ive lost 30 lbs. a lot of that is sweating my butt off in the plant, and when im in my fire fighting getup (im on the fire team) and a little bit of working out, but there is also that i cant stand ship food, and i gave up soda.

Indeed. Especially as it's way healthier than going to the gym every day.

I saw this video on you-tube about fitness and instantly thought about this thread.

Enjoy. Carl, in the video speaks the truth. My attitude is the same. :XD

So, tomorrow, after a lot of "i cba, blah, not worth it, moo, my body is sexy as it is" I'm finally getting a grip and if I do something I'll do it to 100%. Therefore I've decided to try out "Insanity" by Shaun T. Mostly to punish myself for being so lazy, but also because I want to see for myself if the results really are that awesome.

The package I'll take is the "Complete Beachbody Insanity Deluxe Package" and I will share information about it to you who are interested, or want tips. It's not the first "package" I've tried and definitely not the last; but apparently it's the best.

I'll keep in touch :ninja

I know what it is :3c. Its like a P90X program. Its something they have been advertising on tv for a few years now as an EXTREME work out program that you need to buy like a 10 dvd set for. You follow what they tell you do to and then you get ripped, simple enough. Except for the actual workouts because from what I can tell they are extremely brutal. They most likely will give you results but you need to stick with them through the whole 9 yards in order to get the results they promise. You will need a strong will to get through it but if you do then your good.

I was under the impression that everyone knew of the "Insanity" program by Shaun T.
Anyways, in short it is a 60 day workout program that focuses on intense cardio. Simple as that.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLK28BHJDd8

http://www.squidoo.com/insanityrules

That says it all, I can't explain but it looks like I will most likely kill myself during these 60 days and I'm up for the challenge!

edit: What arrogance said. I am doing this as a punishment for my own laziness and I will never, NEVER quit until I finish it. I'll stick to it 100% and I'll do it in two "groups" First 60 days, then two weeks off, then another 60 days. I've already told mom to block my card if I give up. And without my card I can't party... and I want to party :3
