Personally, I found FMA's 10-20 last chapters rubbish. I completely lost interest. I don't have arguments to explain that but it's just the way it is. About One piece being so "hyped" ... I don't know ... I read more than 100 mangas in my life but I still think that One piece is above everything else by far. It's a typical adventure shounen but everything is just so well done ... it's so much fun.
Honestly, I sorta agree with you on the FMA-part, although I don't think it was terrible, I lost interest in it too But I was glad when the mangaka managed to finish it nicely and make a satisfying ending not all mangas manages to do that
I also think, as a shounen manga, One Piece wins over all. It is very well done indeed! I do enjoy Naruto, Bleach, Reborn!, Conan etc a lot, but none of those (or other shounen) have reached the level of quality that One Piece has (they have their own qualities though ).. It's quite amazing that it has over 600 chapters and still hasn't gone downhill.
Although D.Gray-man is my nomination for best overall manga, it's doesn't do well in the category "shounen" in my opinion, so no nomination there
Some things to take in consideration for best shounen between FMA & One piece.
FMA have monthly releases while One piece have weekly releases. So, FMA should be a more "finished" product.
FMA is only 109 chapters of around 40 pages while one piece is more than 600 chapters of around 18 pages. So, One piece is roughly 3 times longer than FMA. So, it's easier to not have bad periods for FMA.
Personally, I found FMA's 10-20 last chapters rubbish. I completely lost interest. I don't have arguments to explain that but it's just the way it is. About One piece being so "hyped" ... It is a pleasant read indeed...new worlds, great imagination...the story and the way Oda made use of the world he created definitely puts One Piece over any other shounen...but for many people the adventure itself is not enough, because now and then a good twist or a not so linear and simplist approach is welcome...or the cast, just look at how FMA has a wonderful cast and it can be seen from the number of votes in Best Cast...little things like this can separate one manga from another in terms of overall quality, and things such as Best Cast are more or less independent of the length of the plot
Honestly, I sorta agree with you on the FMA-part, although I don't think it was terrible, I lost interest in it too But I was glad when the mangaka managed to finish it nicely and make a satisfying ending not all mangas manages to do that
People lost interest because there was nothing new to reveal, except Ed's last trade and conversation with The Truth...things were pretty much wrapped up, and at such stage losing interest is a general reflex of the readers...
I wonder if naruto x sasuke kiss can even be counted as a real kiss...i thought it should be romantic something. That narusasu 'kiss' should be considered as a wtf moment, i believe.
Best Male Lead:
I nominate Munsu from Shin Angyo Onshi, for his badass cunning.
Best Male Supporting Character:
I second Hiruma Yoichi, from Eyeshield 21.
Best Female Lead:
I second Gally from Gunnm.
Best Female Supporting Character:
I nominate Erza Scarlet from Fairy Tail. It's great having a strong female active in the core group.
Best Shoujo Manga:
I nominate Magic Knight Rayearth, it being one of my first manga. It has a bit of everything: schoolgirls, humor, magic, mecha, plot twists.
Best Shounen Manga:
I nominate Eyeshield 21, for its great writing and use of secondary team members. I was not a football fan going in, but enjoyed it immensely.
Best Seinen Manga:
I nominate Shin Angyo Onshi, for its fantastic art and writing.
Best Costume Design:
I nominate Ragnarok (unless that doesn't count since it's Korean). Otherwise, I nominate Guyver for its awesome bio-armor and monster designs.
Best Villain:
I nominate Agon from Eyeshield 21, for being an arrogant yet undeniably talented monster.
Best Chapter:
I nominate Shin Angyo Onshi chapter 0, for the multiple instances of Munsu being a magnificent bastard.
Best Couple/ Pairing:
I nominate Exa and Sheila, from Superior. They're out to kill each other, but she joins his adventuring party in disguise and falls in love. It's sweet watching her develop into a better person from his influence.
Best Artwork:
I nominate Air Gear for its dynamism and insanely detailed metaphorical imagery.
Best WTF Moment:
Fairy Tail: Mistgun's face. That one really came out of nowhere.
Best plot-twist (Please write it inside tags.):
I second Aizen revealing himself as the villain in Bleach.
Oh yeah...by the way, if somebody wants to check just a separate category to see the results, threads have been created in this section with each category...so no need to search for the last update post for one category...it can be found separately
Just my 2 cents on one piece and full metal alchemist. First FMA is finished while One Piece is only at the middle hence most of its mysteries ( void century, D, raftel) are still to be explained. So it's quite difficult to compare the 2 in term of plot. I guess we all expect a lot from Oda to end his manga with a Don. FMA ends was really satisfying and more or less everything was explained. Also I like the length, not too few not to many just what a good story deserve. The 1000 chapters of One Piece are quite horrifying when I think about them.
Concerning the cast, I find the Strawhat crew pretty good so far, so if Oda does not bring to many others it will be good. I also like the way how he re-use former characters like he did with Impel Down. Now he just have to give us a great villain. FMA did well on that part too with the seven sins and their father. Will Blackbeard do the job ?
Best Male Supporting Character L from Death Note – you never know what’s up with this guy, the level of ambiguity around him is spectacular, oh and he can eat sweets non-stop
Best Female Supporting Character Major General Olivia Armstrong from Fullmetal Alchemist – whoever said the prowess of female characters is often downgraded in shonen manga certainly doesn’t know about this character, she is BRIGGS!!!
Best Shonen Manga Death Note – mind games, sophisticated and controversial real-life philosophy mixed perfectly with the elements of fantasy.
Best Seinen Manga Vinland Saga – amazing artwork and thrilling storyline
Best Costume Design Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler – Victorian era costume designs are beautiful, elegance is in every character, even butlers
Best Villain Orochimaru from Naruto – charismatic, smart, cunning, cruel, selfish, strong and last, but most definitely not least (quite opposite in fact) – unpredictable.
Best Fight
Guys can we specify Final battle on The Promised Day in Fullmetal Alchemist. By term “battle” do we mean
specific brawl between Ed and Father or does “battle” define every confrontation that followed Brigg’s invasion (Briggs vs Central, Greed/Granpa vs Bradley, etc)?
I’ll withhold my vote for now
Best Color Page Gantz Chapter 304 Page 2 – no explanation, just my taste
Best Double-Spread Chapter 429, Page 6-7 from Naruto –
Pain, the Demi-God of the shinobi world preparing to annihilate the strongest Ninja village in a single strike
Best Full Cast
Well, I don’t know if Durarara is nominated (it sure wasn’t in the categories) but what the hell, if smbd adds then I nominate Durarara
Best WTF Moment From "Vinland Saga", when
Askeladd beheaded King Sweyn
– now that’s a WTF if I’ve seen one
Best plot-twist Bleach –
Aizen revealed as villain in Bleach/ Aizen’s betrayal of the Gotei 13
Best Shounen Manga: Hunter x Hunter. It's a masterpiece that will never stoop down to shallow trends or saccharine artwork for attention. It has the deepest arc (Chimera Ant arc); interesting, multidimensional characters (ex. Hisoka); and also has one of the deepest energy systems (nen).
I nominate Chapter 291 of Hunter x Hunter as the Best chapter. A lot of people looked forward to this when it came out, because it was the first HxH chapter to be released after the infamous hiatus and it was the start of what seemed to be the most epic battle, powerwise, in HxH. Also, Netero's words all throughout that chapter were very profound and honest.
I nominate Drifters as Best New Manga. The concept of pitting historical figures against each other in a Lord Of the Rings like world is thrilling.
EDIT: Since Drifters started in 2009, this cannot be nominated. Too bad. Sorry for bringing up this nomination in the first place anyway.
I was toying with the idea of nominating Dr. Tenma for best male lead role, but Sakata Gintoki just cracks me up. The non-chalant samurai character has a rare combination of being funny, deep and strength.
Best Male Supporting Character
L from Death Note
I thought L to be more of male lead rather than supporting character. But seeing as everyone seems to think he should be nominated as supporting character, I am putting him as my choice for best male supporting character.
The guy is super cool and intelligent and I really really felt bad when he dies midway. A character who makes you feel so bad when he dies must be really well made character.
Best Female Lead
Balsa from Seirei no moribito
My alternative would be Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell. Both characters are super strong and have a commanding presence in all the scenes, while still having a soft side to them. But, Balsa's character was more well rounded and well developed.
Moderator Notice: These two were definately among my choices for this category. Both are incredible females to be loved, respected, admired, attracted towards as they are both sexy, and feared! . I'm glad you nominated Balsa and mentioned "my" Queen Khan (Motoko Kusanagi's titles = the "Major" and "Queen Khan") HEHE, as you're runner-up!~ HegemonKhan
Best Female Supporting Character
Sumiko Sumimura from Kekkaishi
This nomination made me realize how few mangas have good female supporting characters! This is not to take away from Sumiko Sumimura whose character possesses a mix of mystery, intrigue and a sense of overwhelming power. Every time she appears in the manga, I always felt elated to have her come back and do something or reveal something crucial and plot advancing.
Best Shoujo Manga
Pass on this one...haven't read enough of them.
Best Shounen Manga
Onepiece!!!
No doubt about this one in my mind. I have seen and read a lot of manga. But, in my view, Onepiece has almost optimal combination of fantastic storyline, characters, fun, adventure, badass fights and a sense of mystery. Oda's imagination knows no bounds primarily because of his original idea of independent islands. This makes every island they visit a unique one while developing a story that will eventually lead to Luffy becoming the pirate king. I wouldn't say it has the best storytelling ever, but it sure comes close.
Best Josei Manga
Haven't read enough to make a nomination.
Best Seinen Manga
Monster
This story has some fantastic storytelling in form a symphony where lots of instruments play together to bring the story to a high midway through and then starts over weaving various story elements together to a final crescendo at the end of manga. Loved the manga and the anime.
Best Hairstyling
Passing on this one.
Best Costume Design
Bleach
The shinigami costume is eye catching while everyone elses costumes are also well done. The one good thing I like about Bleach!
Best Villain
Johann Liebert from Monster
What can I say...He is the monster! This guy was a mastermind beyond any other. Psychologically toying with others and controlling everything from shadows sent chills down my spine. He embodied the most complete villain in my opinion. I would have hands down nominated Orochimaru but he got completely marginalized due to Kishimoto's sharingan mania. Orochimaru really gave me the creeps.
Best Fight
Onepiece, SH vs Gekko Moria and Oz
Definitely an awesome fight. SHs came together to fight the giant and what a great fight it was with a great finale. Naruto vs Pain would close second but somehow the anime version just didn't come out right...which spoiled the picture in my mind somewhat.
Cracked me up when I saw it first. Good job by Kishi there.
Best Double-Spread
Too many to decide from...maybe will do this later. Onepiece and Mahou Sensei Nijima have some of the most spectacular art in double spreads.
Best Chapter
One Piece Chapter 398 - Declaration of War
It is very hard to hand pick any one chapter and call it the best. But, this chapter of onepiece was very moving and created an awesome sense of anticipation.
Best Couple/ Pairing
Rock and Revy from Black Lagoon
Rock and Revy pairing felt most real to me in the manga setting. I don't think a shonen manga can show the right kind of emotions involved in a pairing.
Best Full Cast
Onepiece
There is no question about it. What makes onepiece so awesome is the full cast and the fantastic story. The cast works very well together. From, strawhats to WG to yonkous to supernovas to individual island folk. The cast in onepiece is huge and yet harmoniously together.
Best Artwork
Mahou sensei nigima
This artist is really good at drawing detailed frames. His art is really good. If only he would dispense with all the fan service...but even then, I would make this nomination.
Best WTF Moment
Revelation of Duval's identity in One Piece
That really came out of nowhere! Nobody could possibly have predicted it...and it was awesome!
Best plot-twist (Please write it inside spoiler tags.)
Aizen revealed as villain in Bleach/ Aizen’s betrayal of the Gotei 13
Didn't see that coming at all. It was this plot--twist that made me like the manga so much back then. I don't feel as strongly about the manga now, but that plot twist was truly fantastic and well orchestrated.
Best new series (For a nomination to be accepted for this category, the start date must be 2010)
Pass
Best Manga Overall
Onepiece.
This story has it all...drama, intrigue, mystery, adventure and awesome fights. What more would you want from a manga!
for those grumbling over Bleach votes for Artwork..
you gota look at it in a different way the trouble i find with manga is artist get so carried away putting stuff into one frame or a page it looks bit messy.
I APOLOGIZE FOR USING SUCH A STRONG COLOUR AND CAPITAL LETTERS.

Moderator Notice: Also, rajin, could you please not use all caps, as it's considered bad/rude ettiquette online, including on this site.~ HegemonKhan
I wanted to vote Yusuke, but while he's better I find Naruto to be a deeper character. Goku and Luffy aren't as deep even if Goku is the basis of most shounen characters. Naruto isn't just about protecting his friends and fighting because he has to, but he's had pain that gave him complexity. His desire to be acknowledged changed into desire to protect his loved ones, which stemmed from being hated by his entire village. Yusuke and Naruto both fight for their loved ones, Yusuke fights because he enjoys it, and Naruto fights because he wants to make a name for himself, but Naruto has a pain in him that encourages him to fight. Their desire to protect their friends give them freakish strength and stamina, but the Kyuubi in Naruto give him one hell of a powerup. We've seen many sides of Naruto, serious side, funny side, sad side, stupid side, smart side, and etc, and he can be epic when he wants to be. Yusuke has mostly displayed his funny side and idiotic side, as well as a battle junky side.
Funny thing is, both are pretty idiotic, though Naruto tends to be smart while Yusuke gambles and has luck on his side.
Best Male Supporting Character
Kurama hands down. He came before Kakashi and Itachi and thus is my favorite. Not only Kurama is smart at such young age (I think around 17?), but he's extremely reliable. Although he was previously a demon/hosts a demon inside him, Kurama's personality is what makes him, to me, epic, not Yoko Kurama's. He makes plants an extremely dangerous combination, and not even immobilizing him or keeping his step-brother and mother as hostage will stop him from beating the shit out of you, even if he has to die to do it. Kurama is basically a good guy, pretending to have been bad because he wanted to save his mother (and was ultimately saved by Yusuke offering half of his life in return).
If any of you have seen Kurama's angry face when that video game kid was beaten, you'd definitely know he deserves to be in the lead.
Hiei comes close, but even he can't beat Kurama. Although Vegeta is awesome, Hiei > Vegeta any time, though they and Zoro from One Piece are awesome!
Best Female Lead
Hmm... does Nami count? Even though she's not the lead of One Piece, she still plays a pivotal part as its navigator. Simply put: she's funny, and she's very smart, with that beauty of hers. She won't hesitate to punch Luffy, her captain, and Zoro, the first-mate, two extremely powerful pirates. Hell, she can even hurt Luffy with her normal punches whereas it takes a lot for others to hurt Luffy!
Best Shounen Manga
To me, it has to be Yu Yu Hakusho. Not only is it more complex than Dragon Ball, but the fights aren't as repeated and unlike Naruto, all protagonists, or most anyway, are still important. Hiei, Kurama, and Kuwabara still kick ass even if they can't take on the boss. Yusuke is pretty funny, perverted, and idiotic but reliable when the time comes. Like Naruto and Luffy, he's willing to die for his friends, though like Goku, he loves to fight and it isn't just about his loved ones while he fights.
Best Seinen Manga
I like AIKI. It's pretty hilarious along with ecchi and fights. Great combination! limited knowledge here though.
Best Villain
Haguro Dou from Wolfen Crest? He's pretty effed up.
Best Fight
Pirates against Marine against Blackbeard Pirates from One Piece. Not only did it set in stage for what happened afterwards, but it was pretty interesting to see. I wanted to say Luffy vs. Arlong, but this had more of an emotional impact.
Best Color Page Naruto Chapter 503. We saw how life could have been like had Kushina and Minato been alive. It was sad, yet cool to see.
Best Double-Spread One Piece Chapter 502, page 18. This is more of a symbolism than anything; a commoner and a known criminal is punching an evil man, a descendant of the founder of the world, because he shot his friend. The evil man is a part of Tenryuubito, who can do anything they like and are considered to be the most prestigious. People can't do anything, even if the Tenryuubito do evil and horrible stuff. Luffy may be an airhead, but he punched Charlos purely because Charlos was horrible and shot Hachi for no reason other than discrimination. I hate Charlos for the type of guy he is, so I loved seeing Luffy punch him.
Best Chapter
One Piece Chapter 398 - Declaration of War
Need I say anything? So heartwarming and so awesome, especially the way Luffy and SHP were willing to take on the government just for one member of their nakama! so epic and so awesome!
Best Couple/ Pairing
Yoshina Ageha and Amamiya Sakurako from Psyren
Best Full Cast
One Piece? Even bad guys tend to be useful/important here, like Crocodile, Bon Clay, and Mr. 3. The heroes themselves (the SHP anyway) even have their own fights almost every arc and usually come out on top. Unlike Naruto or even Dragon Ball Z to some extent, without most of the characters in One Piece, it's just not that good a manga and the characters themselves would be missed.
Best WTF Moment
Goku could go Super Saiyan. Dragonball Z.
Best plot-twist (Please write it inside spoiler tags.)
Yusuke was half demon.
Best Manga Overall
Hmm. Yu Yu Hakusho for me.
Oh, and I didn't count my own categories here yet. I will later.
Best Shounen Manga
To me, it has to be Yu Yu Hakusho. Not only is it more complex than Dragon Ball, but the fights aren't as repeated and unlike Naruto
Wowww ... That's an extremely weird choice. Yu Yu Hakusho isn't even recognized as the best manga from Togashi. How can you choose this over Hunter x Hunter ???
Edit to answer post below (to avoid trolling): I didn't say it was bad. Yu Yu is good but nowhere near HxH. ... I agree with some stuff you said (Hiei > Vegeta, Full cast still being relevant near the end, ...) but come on, HxH have a better cast, a better scenario, is more original & have the most complex battle system in shounen's history.
Basically, Yu Yu Hakusho is a mazda mx5 (good all around & fun) but HxH is a supercar ...
As I don't want trolling, I'll stop there with this discussion
There is such thing as underrated and underappreciated, yanno. Yu Yu Hakusho's pretty good whether people believe it or not.
Oh, so you like Hunter x Hunter that much. Sorry, but I never read Hunter x Hunter. You can ask Kait, he'll confirm it. Other than praising Yu Yu Hakusho, he agrees with you. I will read Hunter x Hunter eventually though.
Thank you very much for the nominations guys! I really appreciate your awesome participation and contribution to the MH Manga Awards.

Itachi turning out to be good. I'll go in depth for this later once i am on a pc...but for now all i'll say is that judging the unexpectedness, yet the finest seamless fitting of it with loads and loads of previously known details, the impact it had on the plot both before and after the revelation, the impact on the characterization and character interaction of the main characters (which is the core crisis of this manga), the way the whole thing changed complexion only by the establishment of a different perspective without changing the actual event(that is itachi being the one to mass murder uchiha), the emotional impact it had on readers and the political/philosophical debate it generated among them (so realistic that it remains an almost unsolvable debate)...that without any doubt it is The Best. A twist that is not only surprising, but with exceptional depth (the only other one that comes to my mind is the Lelouch twist...but its anime).

But I was glad when the mangaka managed to finish it nicely and make a satisfying ending
not all mangas manages to do that
).. It's quite amazing that it has over 600 chapters and still hasn't gone downhill.
