I have watched a couple of new shows. I'll leave my impressions in spoiler tags.

Inhumans

If Agents of SH.I.E.L.D proved anything it was never to judge a show too early. While the pilot had many problems, mostly in my opinion poor choices in actors and wonky costumes, it certainly wasn't as terrible as critics tried to make it out to be. Its pacing was just a little faster than AoS, though.

Overall, I'm not really invested, but I wasn't with AoS until like episode 7, so I'm going to stick through it and I suggest others do the same if they are on the fence as I am.

The Orville

Seth MacFarlane's dream come true, I'd say. It is very clearly influenced by Star Trek, but with Seth's humor (though not as bad as FG or AD) sprinkled heavily over it. I didn't think I would enjoy it, but I have to say, it has been great so far. The overall quality of the show is astonishing as well. I mean, how big of a budget did Fox give them? lol

I definitely recommend giving it a shot.

Star Trek: Discovery

I'm no hard core Trekkie, but I grew up on Star Trek so I wanted to give this show a chance. I also really love Sonequa Martin-Green's talents as an actor, so it was a bonus (though she's questionable right now). I even went in knowing they turned it into a propaganda show to vent their pure hatred of Trump and his supporters, but surprisingly none of that became my issue with the show.

It was the pacing, and the quick jump into the world through "in-your-face" introductions to the star character, the cultures and politics of the present time. Within two minutes of the show, they're rushing all these details of Michael's character at you and continues to rush through their events. As if they just wanted introductions to be over already, which I find to be a very poor decision. Character introduction, and world introduction, is vital to a show. Or so I believe.

Still, it wasn't terrible, but it certainly needs to improve because at the moment it is hard enough for me to ignore how drastically they altered the Klingon.

The Gifted

One episode in and it is my favorite new show already. The pacing itself wasn't slow or fast, but it was quick to get you into the problems. This is not an introduction to how the X-men fell, this is entirely about life post-X-men disappearance by the way, so don't expect a slow burn show.

The acting was really good too, especially from the kids (which was surprising), and so far everything feels really solid to me. I can't wait to see the world they are painting for us to continue to unfold. Hopefully it continues to impress me like Legion did!

If you liked Legion or want to step into a show with great promise, give this show a chance!

I also suggest The Expanse. Very good watch!

A new(ish) show I've been watching on Netflix for the past week called The Good Place with Kristen Bell and Ted Danson. The premise for it isn't all that complex or unheard of but the execution is very good and solid cast too.

It has 2 seasons so far and the new episodes get released every friday.

Has anyone been keeping up with The Gift? It is starting to build some good ground, though I wish I could say the same for Inhumans.

A new(ish) show I've been watching on Netflix for the past week called The Good Place with Kristen Bell and Ted Danson. The premise for it isn't all that complex or unheard of but the execution is very good and solid cast too.

It has 2 seasons so far and the new episodes get released every friday.

I also began watching it a bit go. I was a little annoyed with some of it at first, but overall, the first season was incredibly funny. Michael became an instant favorite of mine....probably the main reason I kept watching.

The latest episode of The Good Place is definitely a good example of the two main reasons to watch this show: Michael and Janet. I seriously laugh so hard whenever Janet appears I'm in pain.

I loved this semi-contained episode focusing on Michael and Janet. The opening scene of their first meeting is just so good.

Ah also I finished watching Stranger Things 2 today. I enjoyed it more than the first season. The characters are more fleshed out and it's great that they have their own separate adventures, plus the new dynamics between the old characters and some of the new ones.

The addition of a human "villain" is great for a change of pace and grounds the show a bit from all the alien activities.

It's a lot darker I found, what with the gate coming to play even more this season.

I absolutely loved that scene. I can't imagine someone other than D'arcy Coden playing Janet. Her constant reminding people that she can't feel and isn't a human always gets me. I actually just got my family to sit down and watch the show. I bet they'll love it by the end. haha

Spoiler: Stranger Things

Yea, season 2 was good, even with that strange kind of "filler" arc for Eleven. I just wish she was in it a bit more, but with season 3 approaching already, I can be patient.

I think that was important for her character and for viewers to; to see how she'd be around someone like herself, finding a home and all that she'd previously lost. Ultimately she saw that the boys still needed her, it wasn't her that needed saving anymore.

The showrunners really made us wait for her reunion with Mike but I'm glad because everyone sort of had to adapt to deal with things without her there, but Mike as a character didn't really change much since the previous season until she showed up.

The dynamic between Hopper and Eleven was so good; she basically replaced the daughter he lost. Also Max and Billy were good additions. The latter having next to no redeeming qualities made him easy to hate; until you meet his dad, that scene was the only tim I could sort of sympathise with him.

You know one of the most powerful scenes in modern television for me was the scene in season 1 of Stranger Things, when

Joyce runs out of her house and down the road, right as Will is found "dead". It is just so incredibly powerful, down from the actors, to the atmosphere, to the music, and to the timing.

It'll haunt me for years to come. I just wish Stranger Things S2 had a moment like that, but you can't hit perfect twice, just about near it is all that's possible.

They introduced Elongated Man (maybe they'll pick a different name for him lol) and the episode was so much fun I couldn't stop laughing. The guy they got to play Ralph Dibny was a great pick!

Has anyone watched Alias Grace yet? The story is based on Margaret Atwood's novel of the same name, the same woman behind The Handmaid's Tale. They have Alias Grace on Netflix and I have to say it was an incredible watch. I was mesmerized the entire show.

Also, Sarah Gadon is a very talented actress!

Watched a few episodes, it was funny. Very to the point and comically accurate in its depiction of how exaggerated pubertal problems can be.
I’ll probably have it as a sort of “casual watching” series. Not really anything I’ll be eagerly following, but good enough to put on when I just want something short and fun.

Just got done with Stranger Things season 1&2.

I had stopped at about episode 2 of the first season a while ago because it didn't really catch me at first but I gave it another shot and I'm 100% on board now. This show is awesome. My favorite part about it is that the characters almost always turn out to be more cool than you expect them to be.

So often recently you get shows where in order to create drama or drive the plot characters act like morons. Stranger Things has such a refreshingly optimistic approach to it's cast. Like the boyfriend guy Steve with the 80s hair. In any other show he would just be a douchy idiot. But in Stranger Things he's this kind of great character thrown into crazy situations and actually doing a pretty good job. I absolutely love that about it.

Watching The Punisher Netflix series now.

Which, to be honest, I'm not wild about so far. It's fine. Like I don't think it's bad. Paced a lot slower than I was expecting for sure. But where I feel like it's really stumbling is that it doesn't feel like "The Punisher". So far It's more like an espionage thriller with a lot of time spent on soldiers with PTSD. Which is alright, I guess, but I really don't think a Punisher series is the best place to tell that story. Frank Castle is a psychopath anti-hero. He's like Marvel's version of Dexter. So I just feel the show has been a mismatched for the character.

I really wish they had gone more in the direction of John Wick or the Man With No Name westerns. Because that's who the Punisher is more or less. Instead they are trying to go more in a Jack Reacher direction and it's not working for me.

Dave Chappelle: The Bird Revelation 9 / 10

I recently saw the previous two specials that Neflix released earlier in 2017 of Dave Chappelle, "The Age of Spin" and "In The Heart of Texas" and both were entertaining, humorous and that speculated on Chappelle's life experiences. The last two released on New Year's Eve, were everything the previous two mentioned were and much more. I will say, Netflix and Chappelle are definitely going to get their $60 million dollars worth out of these 4 specials in total and I'm hoping, Chappelle will do more with his career beyond the comedy stage, I think, he's got a lot more to say and possibly teach to today's generation.

On another Tv things, saw Dirk Gently s2. Didn't enjoy as much as s1, but it was still lots of fun and at the end things got pretty epic. So disappointed it got cancelled. I wanna know how it all ends. It was shaping up to be pretty epic.

Also watched the first episode of Altered Carbon. Haven't read the book, so it was rather confusing at first, but I guess I got the gist of it eventually. Didn't get everything though. (Like why that hotel was supposed to be a bad thing). Seems very promising.

Also seems like cyberpunk is the next 'thing'. First Blade Runner, now this, the Battle Angel at summer.

The Leftovers and Westworld are absolute must-watches. GoT a bit less so lately, but it's still better than most of what's on TV.

Just got done marathoning season 2 of Jessica Jones.

I did skip a fair bit though. It was alright. Not as good as season 1, IMO. Going to be curious what other people think of it since the first season was so well thought of. Especially considering how different this season was from the last one.

It felt kind of weird to me honestly. Good main plot but overloaded with crap side plots and soap opera stuff. Still the core story was good. And it came together fairly nicely at the end.

I'd give it like a 6 out of 10
