It bums me out that more people don't watch this show, seems like the first season was pretty hit or miss with people. My brother and his gf used to watch it and I keep going on and on about the second season, but to no avail.

Looks like the finale is going to be 75 minutes, hopefully it isn't a series finale...

Hmm, the chances are so-so in my opinion. Honestly speaking, the ratings are not so bad if we consider what kind of shows with what kind of ratings were not cancelled the past couple of years (prime example would be Enlightened which got maybe a third-a fourth of Leftovers´ ratings) and Leftovers has a cult following at this point but on the other hand, HBO has a lot of high profile shows coming up in 2016, especially in the drama department (Vinyl, Westworld, The Young Pope, Codes of Conduct, Undaunted Courage, Watchmen...), so we will see.

From a critical standpoint, there's no way they could cancel it IMO. The cult-hit thing exists for a reason. HBO don't care as much about ratings either since they have no advertisement space to sell. Still, it's a bit worrying to hear nothing about it from them.

Looks like The Leftovers is renewed for a third and final season. Seems to be Lindelof's choice as well...interesting.

Is it really a risk though? I'm fine with Lindelof doing this, as they eventually got around to doing it with Lost. But it may be spun as something he was in control of, and that might not really be the case. Critically the show has done very well this season, but it had pretty pitiful ratings. I know HBO wouldn't care as much about something like that, but I'd think he'd have a harder time doing this if more people watched it.

I don´t mean renewing it for a third season, i mean the creative choices within the narrative, especially in season 2. Heck, the general premise, meaning to focus on the existential crisis of a handful of characters after an unexplainable event instead of dealing with said event itself is already uncommon and a risk if we look at most other series, so it is a good thing that Lindelof has the opportunity to tell the story how he wants and to finish it.

I'll watch it to see Esmé Bianco and for the chance of watching an adaptation of a book I read even though I didn't really like it.

I'll probably watch it after I'm done with The Leftovers Season 2 and Jessica Jones.

Depends on who you are referring to with "people". I said a couple of times that Fargo season 2 is the best thing 2015.

Oh? I must have missed something then, because to be honest I've seen fewer contents e.g., articles, news etc., about Fargo rather than TD 2. I think the general consensus about TD season 2 was it wasn't an utter shite, just underwhelming because it's 'different'.

That´s basically it. People talked more about TD season 2 because they shit all over it while Fargo season 2 delivered as expected, maybe even more than that.

Same. It wasn't a complete garbo or anything, and it is still an intriguing series on its own.

Yeah, I don't get it. There are plenty of shitty shows that still have mass appeal, that doesn't make them good though. The same goes in the opposite direction, but there's a lot less of those on network TV because ratings still matter.

If it isn't people getting fixated on the second season being too different from the first season, then I'm not sure what the criticism is. I still thought it was a captivating 8 hours of TV. If you want to simply say it wasn't as good as the first season, then fair enough....but I don't see how it was a failure of epic proportions.
