Cilic was winning the long rallies. I got the worst case scenario....a one sided nervy final. Keis legs are his weapon...they werent there today. Disappointed

Just fun because it's from the place where I am at, people consider Djokovic as a legend here anyway, everyone cheers for him. I don't know it brings a smile that this region has a good tennis history and it's building on it.

I guess i understand that POV. I usually put on figurative blinders to flags when it comes to sports. I just like who i like. But then i do understand some nations don't have strong tennis backing (from what i understand Cilic was fortunate his talent was noted early on)

With his loss to lopez in R2 of Shanghai..Nadal is passed by old man Federer in rankings. Cilic is not following up his USO win very well...while Nishikori has won back to back tournaments since then. A lot of upsets in Shanghai actually

That's okay, because he won 2 tournaments in the two weeks coming in, he showed he has real stamina now. Federer winning shanghai was great considering he should have lost int he first round lol.

Heh, sometimes luck's on your side. Djokovic wasn't in top shape in the SFs and then Simon is really never good in the big matches, although he did get to two tiebreaks.

I think (and Djoker said) that he played fine. Federer summoned some vintage fed for one day when he needed it. Played like garbage VS Simon compared to Djoker but that was enough to get it done. Simon had me worried because minus one time federer never gets an easy match from that guy. Djokers child is coming soon, i hear he might pull out of paris (he's defending champ)

I think Djokovic played fine overall, but he wasn't as aggressive as he is normally.

Simon can't really hurt you all that much, though. He can play well for spurts, but...

Yes, that's part of what I was alluding to. He hasn't been as focused since the marriage and the child on the way.

Fed has to withdraw before the match begins against Djokovic with injury. So, we're not going to get an ATP Championship Final, but...

There was an article I read on Eurosport that pretty much echoed my thoughts on the issue. I'm more sad about the people that paid to come to the final and only find out it was cancelled an hour before. I dunno if they get their refund or not; it's quite a shame.

The comparison with Sterling in that article is pretty dumb tho. Sterling's match doesn't depend 100 % in him playing, and he's not a 33 year old playing a World Cup final in a week.

It is a shame for the people that payed to be there, yes, but give the dude a break he just wants to play the Davis' Finals and he surely won't do it ever again in his career.

Hardy, I'm okay with Fed wanting to win the Davis Cup. That's a great goal and would be a fitting moment to cap his career.

However, however, he admitted that Djokovic was the better player because with a small injury, Fed basically said he had zero chance by withdrawing. Normally, players have small injuries, but we don't see them withdrawing.

Do you remember the media attacks that Henin received when she retired from the Australian Open Final against Mauresmo? She didn't withdraw beforehand, she played, but couldn't make it the whole way. Of course, the truth is that Henin appeared to be in good enough shape to finish the Final, but she didn't want to finish the match. She did have an injury, though, but people were offended that she retired midway instead of playing through and risking more of an injury.

On the other hand, if Fed went out there and got destroyed by Djokovic in 50 minutes or something, we wouldn't have wanted to see that either.

He prolly doesn't think he had no chance, he just worded it like crap or something, or tried to make his small injury sound like something worse. He just wants to be fit for the Davis and that's pretty much it.

I honestly don't remember tbh and you're making it sound like the media hate was... the media's fault, not hers.

Fed is an excellent speaker of English, though, and wouldn't accidentally say something like that. He probably wanted to make his injury sound worse than it was, but it was still a bad choice of words.

This was in 2006, so it was a while ago, Hardy. She got a lot of flack. I thought it was fine that she retired, but the media didn't see it that way.
