Re: The Tennis Thread
Some Highlights during the golden swing/post AO/pre US HC masters
-Nishikori wins his 3rd straight Memphis title. The only one to win 3 straight. Defeats Kevin Anderson in the Final (6-4,6-4)
-Murray overtook Nadal as Number 3...for all of one week before being embarrassed by 18 year old Borna Coric (6-1,6-3). Murray has dropped to 5. Kei Nishikori reaches a new career high of 4.
-Federer wins a record breaking 7th Dubai title, winning w/o dropping a set including "avenging" fellow big 4 member Andy Murray by beating Coric in straights (6-2,6-1). He had to face Djokovic in the finals. He won 6-3,7-5 with one break each set. There were 9 break points (7 Federer faced from Nole, 2 on Nole's serve) and Fed won all of them. Playing the big points well~ Had Djokovic had won he'd have surpassed Coach Becker's 49 titles. Federer hit his 9,000th ace joining the Roddick, Goran and Karlovic as the only players with over 9,000 aces.
-Nadal loses his first Semi on clay in like 10 years apparently...to Fabio Fognini (1-6,6-2,7-5). This allowed Ferrer to win the Rio Open. Ferrer then captured another 500 at Acapulco by beating Kei Nishikori 6-3,7-5 snapping a 5 match losing streak against IRL Ryoma.
-Ryan Harrison made a semifinal in Acapulco beating the likes of Grigor Dimitrov and Ivo Karlovic before going down to Ferrer.
-Wawrinka Wins Rotterdam over Berdych. Murray lost early there to Gilles Simone who he was 12-0 against.
-Nadal wins a claycourt event in Beunos Aires but none of the other top guys were there. (The second seed was Tommy Robredo). He did not drop a set. Defeated Juan Monaco in the finals 6-4,6-1. This was title #65 and allowed him to break his tie with Sampras and Borg.
I think i covered the important things (not chronologically...I'm sorry lol). Fed/Nole/Nishikori (for the most part)/Ferrer/Stan in good form. Nadal's form is questionable. Murray in another post slam runner up slump.
