Murray made it interesting this time...the first two sets seemed tight (didn't watch..expected a beating) but Novak does the IW/Miami double for a 3rd time and a 2nd consecutive time. 7-6(3),4-6,6-0

I caught the second and third sets. Murray played well in the second, but then got destroyed in the third.

Novak is prone to slow starts these days. Same thing happened VS berdych and he still won playing at a lower level than he did VS nadal.

That said...methinks he finds another way to lose Roland Garros again.

Nadal has lost to fognini 2x on clay this year. Maybe Novak does win RG lol

Now Nadal loses to Murray (who's won back to back clay titles) 6-3,6-2. On Clay. In Spain.

Nadal drops to #7. His draw is going to get harder at RG since he wont be seeded so high.

Nadal loses to Stan in straight sets. Is he even a top five favorite for RG now?

I think he is, beating him in 5 set is a different monster but.....RG is as open as it's been since Soderling knocked him out in 2009. He's going to be seeded 7th...meaning he can run into Novak or one of the other top 4 seeds as early as the quarters. He won't have a cushy top 4 seed draw either, and there are a bunch of guys who just aren't afraid of him....like Fognini seems to peak whenever he plays him, Murray is probably confident against him on clay etc.

Stan played an excellent match though, to take that tiebreak from 2-6 was a beautiful thing to watch. Nadal didn't spray errors like the Murray match...Stan just out muscled him..something he couldn't do in the past.

Yeah, but that's because Nadal's physically decreased, not because Stan's become better.

No, Stan redlined in that match. Nadal actually didn't play bad at all defense and offense he actually showed really good signs. The scoreline was 7-6,6-2 but that was not a straightforward 6-2 by any means.

Ah well anyways, Novak wins Rome. He broke the tie in masters between him and Federer...so now its 27 nadal, 24 novak,23 fed. I suspect he might tie or beat Nadal by years end haha....He's definitely the favorite for RG. The rest is up in the air. If the stars align fed can win, Murray is playing with renewed confidence. Murray made the semis last year when he wasn't playing well so this year who knows. Nishikori is a dark horse etc, and depending on which stan shows up....

Hahahahaha. Novak, Nadal, Murray all in the same half. Novak/Rafa projected to meet in the quarters. That half of the draw is going to be very interesting.

It's just not good luck for Novak. What if he has a down match and Nadal gets lucky? He'll lose points.

That's possible (anything is really......what if he beats Nadal but is gassed and Murray takes him out). Though Murray's point gap over everyone else is so huge it wouldn't matter too much.

Novak has all the confidence...Nadal has none. Looking forward to the second slam....hoping for some good day 1 five setters lol.

Beating Nadal over five sets is a different story, though, plus the RG clay is more suited to Nadal's game.

I don't think it was magical. It was the expected result. The only unexpected part of the match was Novak blowing that 4-4 lead, he is clearly a better player than Nadal on every surface. Historically the match is a blow up (so many streaks ended), but realistically it was expected.

At this point Murray is more dangerous to Novak, and if Wawrinka makes the final and is redlined like he is now then you never know what could happen. I think his celebration was so subdued because he knows he has a lot of work left to do before he wins.

I picked Tsonga to get to the Final, so Stan is not making it.

Lol. Last time Tsonga made the semis he came out flat and nervous. Stan's been here before, it's a toss up because we don't know which Stan and which Tsonga would show up.

Last time these two played was Davis cup. On clay. In France. Stan won 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 .....so he's definitely "been here" before.
