Re: How cold is a heart when it's warmth that it seeks?
Less interesting question
I was on a smaller Fighting Game forum that linked here back in 2005. I lurked for a while and didn't join until 2006. I guess Gold Knight took notice of me not being a complete tard and asked me to moderate Gantz and Berserk (I offered for the latter since it lacked a mod as well). I also had some value at finding raws and spoilers so he modded me in the RTS section (what the database was before the database). I became a Global in 2007 I think? I think I was asked to be an admin in 2008 because I just outlasted anyone else of note

.
What made me stay? Well enthusiasm for manga/anime and discussing it can come and go. What kept/keeps me here are the people

. It's a unique environment, I've made friends and hope to continue doing so. I consider some of them lifelong friends

....oh the intarwebz
That's really interesting. You became an admin in two years, thats quite an accomplishment! I agree, I find MH's environment unique, yet all-encompassing. No one is really left out.
Thanks

. They are my heart and soul.
I am glad I was any help. My sincere good wishes to your sister in her coming life. There is nothing more joyous than to see your loved ones living a good life. I am positive everything will go great. I didn't want to mention the ruksati part. It was one of the saddest day of my life. My sister is always like my best friend and I miss her so much. Now, I miss her kids a lot more XD.
It seems the old traditions are dying here. Now, dancing on Indian music is more common here. I don't like it. I enjoy with old traditional way. You know, the preparations by your relatives and friends thinking out the songs - practicing and all more fun.
Aww, I didn't mean to bring up sad memories.

You can probably visit them from time to time, right?
Wow, I totally agree with you about the Indian songs. I mean, its fine in principle, as is dancing to any other nationality's songs, but I
really dislike it when people don't even bother listening to Pakistani music and go straight to the Indian songs. We have a lot of great talent and a lot of fun songs to dance to! What's really awkward is when people plan their dances with no originality, and dance to the camera and not to the people.
toc and Teeba, do you have kina ceremony a day before the wedding?
What happened to the pics? MH doesn't like imgur.com? I uploaded them to a different site.
The ceremony looks really similar to a Mehndi, Pat! I read up a little about Kina, and the similarities and differences are pretty neat. Both functions are about putting henna on the bride's hands, and both of them are about blessing the couple before the wedding. I think the bride and groom having their first dance together is also cute.

Just to add onto thorn's explanation, both Kina and Mehndi are pre-wedding ceremonies that mark the last night the bride is at her own home. Putting henna on seems to be a deep-seated theme in a lot of cultures across Northern Africa + the Middle East + Southeast Asia. In Pakistan, or at least in my family, guests do more than just put henna on the bride, they usually put a little oil in her hair, as well as feed her something sweet.
So if the Turkish have a kina ceremony...do they have a Maiyon?
Oh God I am turning into a wedding otaku
Pat, the dressing is different here. These pictures seems to be of Mehndi function, more commonly called Rasm-e-Hina here (Hina=Mehndi - the thing you put on your hands for decorative purposes). Are these pictures from a Turkish wedding? The format of the wedding varies even here. Mostly, its more or less the same. Its the little details that are changed due to several reasons like sect or tribal traditions, proximity, etc. According to our religion, only Nikkah is must. All else is made by us.
Thorn answered everything perfectly.

If I didn't know any better I'd say you were a cousin of mine. xD (are we? You are half Punjabi...)
