^Thats the one. For me the only problem with the game is the utter lack of context. The entire game is based on randomly walking into dungeons at best, there is no sense of direction. I remember when I first picked the game I spent 1 hour gathering rupies because I just assumed the key they sold at the story had some important purpose which I had yet to find out about. Imagine the disappointment...

I got Majora's Mask some months back on my Wii virtual console, but only now started playing it.... Holy fucking mackerel. I love the atmosphere of this game. There is a distinct possibility that it might rival Skyward Sword by the time I get through.

I never finished Majora's Mask. The time traveling mechanic just confused the hell out of me I think, but I don't know if that's the exact reason.

I think I'll play the oracles again. They are by far my favorite handheld zelda, but idk why few people know about them, maybe because they were launched for the GB?

Not only that... but yeah, the moon is a huge deal. You gotta be fast, you feel the pressure in each day, can't really stop to think unless:

you learn how to slow time

...
Why there isn't any other game like that? Like, really, there isn't any other game that is so grim, with so much cool side quests, so much emotive moments, so much mindfucking things, different masks and collectives that completely change the way you play the game... all that at the same time. Maybe I'm overrating this game... but how wouldn't I, I love it so much that I can't finish OoT (most praised game ever) cause I get bored.

Probably the fact that I'm such a hardcore atheist makes grim things even better. My mind is plaing boring all day whenever I think about something like that, but when you're playing a videogame you gotta accept the world where you are and... live it lol. Same thing with creepy pastas and crap like that.

I dunno, if someone knows a game that feels like Majora's, please share.

Probably Eternal Darkness. That game is 100x more fucked up than any Zelda game. I'm still perplexed as to why I sold it. I did that with a bunch of GameCube games that I shouldn't.

I'm not going to google it just to avoid spoilers :XD

I should try every silent hill game too...

But still, those are from a different genre, what about the side quests and collectives huh? huh?!

Eternal Darkness is horror I guess, but it isn't a survival game like RE or Silent Hill. It isn't a total adventure game like Zelda either. You play as different characters through history, and the game fucks with you psychologically, even turning off the game and making you think your console reset :XD. It's pretty freaky, youtube it.

It's definitely very... different. It's probably the most unique game I've ever played. The atmosphere of sorrow on top of impending doom and creepiness is very well-done. They really set the mood for this game. But at the same time, the colors are still vibrant and diverse. It's impressive that they were able to convey the sadness/creepiness while still making the color scheme so bold. It's not like Twilight Princess... where there were no colors it seemed like.

I think I'll play the oracles again. They are by far my favorite handheld zelda, but idk why few people know about them, maybe because they were launched for the GB?
I've been wanting to get my hands on those ever since I got a Gameboy Color, but never got around to it. They haven't popped up at the Game X Change nearby. I suppose I could order them offline though. I'll try to complete my million other Zleda games I own before moving on to that though. Farfalla really loves the Oracles as well. I've only heard really good things about them. Makes me itch to play them.

You did say that, but I forgot. You really weren't kidding! I'd say that you could play Twilight Princess if you like the darker vibe, but it's nottttt the same. Not even remotely. Twilight Princess reminds me of Ocarina of Time more than Majora's Mask to be honest.

Majora's had no Zelda :nod
She's in a couple of scenes, but you're right. The game definitely doesn't center around her. If I'm not mistaken, Link's Awakening doesn't involve her either.

Twilight Princess did get pretty creepy in the twilight segments though. Twilight Lake Hylia scared the hell out of me what with the unnerving music and enemy sounds. I love Majora's Mask's atmosphere as well! I first played it when I was really young and even then I noticed that something was off with it compared to OoT (though after the time-skip OoT does have a similar atmosphere). I love it when you revisit something from your childhood and noticed how dark and grim it really was, makes you gain a whole new perspective :)

Its definitely completely unique and different from every other zelda game... its not just the atmosphere, its everything. The game and its plot is completely dark in comparison to every other zelda game and the game gets darker and darker with every step taken. Seriously, just the scrub thingy when the game starts is creepier than every other zelda game combined. The sheer amount of death in the game and the implications of murder make a huge difference. Heck, you can actually murder an NPC in the game (although doing so results in one of the mask side quests being impossible to finish and you have to start again). The very premise of having to walk around with masks that turn you into dead people and actually impersonating those dead people is disturbing as hell too. This game is definitely not for children... I guess they aimed to make up for how dark this game was with wind waker lol.

To be honest I never particularly liked the twilight section of twilight princess. I am unsure of what emotion exactly they wanted to have the twilight scenes convey to the players... Its not quite creepy or scary however it is also not pleasant or beautiful. The monsters there are not quite the sort to scare you either. The tears section of the game and the twilight palace are definitely the worst things to do in the game. Collecting the tears is not even remotely fun and can easily turn into a tedious task. The twilight palace has all that thing going on about turning you into a wolf in certain areas which is also tedious and uninteresting. I always feel like those are parts of the game I would skip if I had the chance.
