He is too tense. he looks like he is always wanting to go into his trance state, whihc is a big flaw that limits hiw growth.

i don't think he too tense i think he wants to get into this mindset of openess like the stream on the last page; ever changing, not stopping to think just doing, like how he chopped that one guy in half, he didn't realise it till afterwards

I dont think he was in a trance. It seemed more like he was so tired he was dozing off in the middle of the battle field. Remember that he's been fighting alot of men with no sleep from the previous night, and he ran back quite a distance to reach the Yoshioka.

As for the trance state being bad or whatever, I hope that was just a small plot thing in the fight against sejiro and doesn't become a focal point of training, even less if it has to become some type of supernatural state that makes him faster and strong.

If I'm not mistaken (my Musashi knowledge is a bit off at times), the Void is a key part of the Ni Ten Ichi. It's a state of mind where you no longer think, just do. It doesn't make him stronger, it just makes his body react to things without thinking. That alone accounts for any extra speed. Doing something without thinking should be faster than the split second it takes to think something through and then do it.

Hmm well if it's just something that become second nature I guess it might be cool. But if it's something he has to activate and wind blows around like a super saying transformation i would stop reading vagabond.

I understand what you guys are saying. by the looks of it Takezo's element is water, shapeless and ever changing
and Kojiro's element is earth, immovable.

Musashi wrote of different elemental fighting styles in the Book of Five Rings. I suggest you guys at least take a look at his Wikipedia entry to see what is meant when these elements are mentioned.

It's not like a person who is fire can manipulate fire or anything like that, he just attacks fiercely and quickly, things like that. Someone who is water adapts to a situation and stuff. That's what was meant.

hehe haha i did not mean elements. God no. I read naruto for that.
I read it the manga, Ito gave him ganryu because he is as silent as a rock. But its also said in a different chapter that his stance is like a rock or something in that nature.

Coincidentally in the book Musashi, isn't the focus of earth scrolls Sasaki? I'll have to check that.
